Haha, wanted to ask: How did you get trees without leaves in the sim... Oh wait, its a real photo. 🙂

One of the great challenges that MSFS brings is quickly determining when you’re looking at a sim or real picture 🙂

I did the same thing when I looked at it.

I had to zoom in. I’m on my phone, so was hard to tell the difference.

Yeah.....the familiar landscape I'm so used to seeing when landing in Dallas was totally alien to me......once in a lifetime experience

The sky is way too orange in some of those shots. Looks a bit unrealistic. I hope they can tone or readjust the orange levels. It looks like you're flying into "HELL" literally. Dawn/Dusk sky colors needs a proper calibration. I never seen the sky that orange before. I know there are different variables that comes into play such as time of day, location, air, season, etc. but it can use some tweaking.

Did you try a google search?

That's most likely a touched up photograph that bumps up the saturation. Not actually a realistic representation of what you see with your own eyes. It's like night lighting being captured with a camera and what your eyes capture. They are different.

During my time in Egypt in the early 2000's, we actually did see a lot of sunrise/sunset's like that.

With live weather you sometimes have that. I remember landing at Cologne and the runway appeared only seconds before I reached the threshold. That was quite scary. But I agree, it would be great of we could set it manually.

I had that multiple times. 🙂

Happy with MSFS 🙂

I've seen that color in FL a few times, so let's just stop. IRL there are so many variations of yellow and orange that it's hard to capture every one of those colors in a lifetime. Sometimes I watch the early morning news and the traffic report shows a Tampa image and then I go fly and it's almost identical lighting & colors. Pretty scary if you ask me.

MSFS

I'm just glad they toned down the over purple skies I use to have. The fire orange is much more realistic than the overdone purple that use to be everywhere in dusk/dawn.

James

I like em aswell, mutch better as it was before and i can clear see the difference.

cheers 😉

The biggest difference between the sim and real life is when it is in real life the waterfalls move and when it is windy so do the low clouds, grass and trees.  Though I suspect that sort of animation will be a long way off being feasible in terms of hardware.

As far as saturation goes the sim, like most photos you can google, tends to be over-saturated.  Though it partly depends where you live as Ireland for example really IS that green but Australia is not,

You can turn the in sim saturation off by setting colorgrading=0 off in the usercfg.opt file.  As expected setting it to off looks more realistic for much of the world but leaving it on looks better effects wise. Unfortunately it is all or nothing, it is either on or off.

The clip below was recorded with color grading set to "off".

I came here specifically to see if anyone had noticed how much nicer the clouds seemed. I also expected that despite being the nicest default (and probably payware as well) clouds we will have ever seen, simmer OCD would force us to begin nitpicking at it anyways... 😄

We are a special breed of nitpickers your absolutely right. Once they sort out the feeling of flying through a sandstorm that we see sometimes plus a few different types of clouds thrown in at that point I will no longer nitpick the clouds..... Who am I kiddin I will find something else we always do 😉

I thought I had seen the grass and trees move in the wind, admittedly fairly high winds.  I was quite shocked when I saw the trees actually swaying.  I will have to check now.  And I thought all clouds follow the wind speed and direction.  I had a cloud shadow pass across me the other day while I was waiting on the runway, and then the rain shaft also came over the top of me - very atmospheric.  There is also a Niagara falls mod on flightsim.to with a proper waterfall effect that isn't too bad, but that isn't default of course.

The sim is getting there though!
