You Can't Go Back

Featured Replies

I keep and use FS9 and FSX and particularly FSX for my helicopters. With MSFS as each update goes by, for now, it is necessary to tweak a bit here and there. Now with the gaming services issues it was back to my helicopters. I'm talking with @PharaohSteve from Media Hype Train to bring helicopters to MSFS in a few days - see there Discord channel for what's going on.

For now MSFS is for low and slow for the scenery alone and all other flying with FBW's A32NX and the WT CJ4.

couldn't be happier myself. And don't see these complaints TBO. If at all then some word not allowed discussions which I do not engage in. yes, FSX was too demanding on my system (i5 2500) in the old days but heck MSFS is sooo smooth and fluid on the very same rig. Only had to get a new GTX1660s. P3D I never touched just because it was still too much FSX to me and XP I bought but literally only flew a handful times, did not like the visuals . MSFS is now really groundbreaking new and I really enjoy it, primarily in the modded neo (as it allows me to work from home while still flying) and sometimes VFR with GA

Haha, you should see it fly on a decent system.  I was so impressed with What I saw of MSFS that I made sone massive upgrades.  Once you can get it running smooth in Ultra settings it will blow your mind.  Running at medium/higg settings with my old system, I was questioning whether the new sim was actually worth it

Should that not be flying from home while still working?!:)

What's FSX?

I think FSX was some beast from the past that I enjoyed for some time until 6-7 years ago when new species came out that thereafter became 64bits and beat that old 32bits specimen. Now, six months ago there's a new beast that beat them all 🤣

I can‘t go back either. Not only because of the visuals but also because I completely lost track of all my addons and plugins I downloaded over the years for XPlane. I haven’t fired it up for 2 years and the mere thought of having to set everything up again makes me shudder.

Haha, I know that. When I wanted to take a flight last time, I had to update BetterPushback, almost every single plane, install liveries again... so I ended up flying with the default Cessna. 😄

Happy with MSFS 🙂
home simming evolved

I have an enormous amount of investment in Prepar3d...

BUT, Now I am also flying MSFS 2020 I find myself firing that up more and more often...

Oh yes.  But compare the performance of even P3D to MSFS, and there's a world of difference.  The number of objects MSFS shows all at once is incredible by comparison.

I can load up DOS and check out FS5.0 and it loads great too. Performance is amazing.

Still looks 30 years old.

After looking at my quickly disappearing drive space 😕 due to MSFS add-on downloads on my 1TB NVME M.2 SSD, I finally decided to move all traces of FSX and Xplane off the drive at the weekend.

I archived them to another backup drive, but that is probably it for them.  Probably no going back.  I freed-up about 350GB in the process.

I need to slow down though.  At the rate I am going with MSFS payware and freeware, I will be using up about 1TB per year! 😀

@bobcat999 I sympathise. When I built my system 8 years ago 1TB seemed like an implausible amount of space to fill, but MFS, P3D, COD:WZ and now Xbox Game Pass (with Forza Horizon 4 and other games) have stuffed it full - even uninstalling all my P3D photoscenery and mesh hasn't recovered me enough space! I would bin P3D at this point but MFS still needs decent airliners, I'm hanging onto P3D for the Majestic Q400. I've already binned a load of games I wasn't playing (GTA:V was huge), now I'm having to take difficult decisions about what goes next until I can be bothered to build a new system (and graphic card prices stop being stupid).

The last two years of P3D, I flew nothing but A2A T6, C 182, and Comanche. Stopped flying tube liners prior to that, because frankly, I found it boring, not much to see at FL350, so a takeoff and landing was about it.

When I got a new PC for MSFS 2020 a month ago, I decided to say goodbye to P3D, and all my A2A , PMDG, Q400, EZdok, AS 16, GSX,, and other add ons too numerous to mention.  Now I am happily flying the Mooney M20, which is all I fly, and once in a while the C 172's.  I bought two aircraft, from the market, the Mooney and the C 182 ( which I don't care for)  Total add on cost  ~$60 .  I did reinstall PF3 for ATC, and Avliasoft  EFB for charts and just about everything else, and they both work perfectly with MS 2020. I am one satisfied flight simmer now, after struggling for dozens of years trying to reach a point that I was happy with. Nothing else needed for me.

This may be true for some folks, but not for me. The scenery is fantastic in MSFS, but so is the realism of performance, weather, and feeling of immersion -- way beyond anything seen previously. This applies to flying with both small and larger aircraft, by the way. As far as I'm concerned, "MSFS is for low and slow for the scenery alone" is a pervasive myth.

Still flying P3Dv5 and having a good time in my real size 737-800 cockpit.

The MSFS Simconnect/SDK is still into capable of handling complex ac so I always within an hour the known Simconnect CTD.

Up to know we have a scenery simulator with several GA ac flying.

None of the De Luxe ac are flying correctly after 6 months. Like Cpt Canada said yesterday: “ I get the feeling that they do not know how to fix these ac. It is a real shame.”

Lots of handcrafted airports do not even have flat runways https://www.dropbox.com/s/ni9oruojmw87mji/Foto 25-01-2021 20 39 10.png?dl=0

Scenery is nice but you spent your time in the cockpit, so after half a year it would be nice to have everything fixed. Especially with the large team that is working on it.

I do not want to go back to P3D but I am forced to go back....

I thought for sure I would split my time between FSX and MSFS when it came out...but I haven't fired FSX once since release....and every time I think about it I just cant...I know its not going to look good enough for me.   I still get wow moments even after 6 months (Last night flying into Barcelona at twilight) that I just wont get with FSX.  Like everyone I am annoyed at the issue that keep cropping up (all with workarounds for me but still could have been avoided).  And my performance isnt perfect but pretty good for my mid level PC (fixable by upgrading).  I continue to look forward to improvements...but as someone else mentioned my 500G HD probably isnt going to cut in the very near future......
