Quick question about updating MSFS add on linker…it says “For updating, repeat the same process after deleting the files that came with the previous version.” OK, easy enough, but when you do this, is the directory structure recognized in the app after you update it? I have three directories, aircraft, scenery, and custom, will they be accessed in the app after updating or do I have to point the app towards those three directories again?  I’m on an old version of add on linker since November, and it works! Don’t want to screw it up.

Thanks!

The information regarding your settings, links, directory structure etc. are stored elsewhere than in the program folder  - so yes, everything will survive after you replace the original program folder files.   I had the same concern but this is mentioned in the readme, and just updated with no pain whatsoever.  The map is nice!

Someone posted that they got a new PC, installed MSFS2020 in the new PC and all their settings were there.

Yes.  There is a config file in the folder (MSFS_AddonsLinker.exe.config) that I backup first, but I have never needed to reposition it.  Oh, and a Windows shortcut (.lnk) that backups the shortcut that is on my Windows desktop.

There's not even a donation link. He states

"Thank you very much about thinking about making a donation. I really appreciate that but it's ok, there's already so much stuff to pay for nowadays, just enjoy the little tool if you think it can be useful for you and don't worry about money.

What a wonderful person he is. I came across a thread here the other day when I first learnt about AOL and he was in the thread and told me to message him anytime if I get stuck. Really, if all humans were like him the world would be a better place. Thank you for the most excellent software!

This really is an outstanding program, with seamless operation. It’s work from folks like the good Mr. Bad that keep me interested in MSFS. What a phenomenal tool.

Cheers, Pete

whoa guys, was not expecting this 🙊, thank you very much to everyone of you for your nice words and feedback and I'm very glad you find the new features useful ❤️. It has some shortcomings (not everything is recognized, probably some little bugs here and there, ...) but well i'll certainly try to improve with time based on the reports i will get.

@fppilot for info the exe.config file is not worth backuping, it doesn't contain any 'personal settings' data. It's just a configuration file for the EXE that will be the same on all computer using the tool. Every settings and preference is saved in this folder : C:\ProgramData\MSFS Addons Linker . That one is probably worth saving from time to time. By not not mixing up the program (EXE) and the settings inside the same folder, you can wihout problem replace all files when updating in the EXE folder (like you correctly stated)

@NismoRR yes the folder containing the EXE does not store any settings as explained just above. So you can without problem replace all files that are in the main EXE folder by those that come with the new zip like @Stoopy & @Espana Pete said.  (the saved data is here C:\ProgramData\MSFS Addons Linker so make sure you don't delete that one though). To be complete it's also worth noting the the structure is not saved anywhere, the structure is read live on your disk when you launch the tool, what is saved are the settings you set in the options screen, the presets, the custom data, ...

Thanks again ! 🍻

I agree with everyone here regarding @Bad_T linker mod. It looks like the best mod, just got better. Need to check out the latest.

Thanks.

MSFS

Thanks everyone for the help. Updated the add on linker without issue (as well as Savage Carbon, thx Bob) and working like a charm.

Yep, the Addons Linker makes the sim workable for me. I'm looking at something like 800 folders worth of addons at the moment and I can't imagine managing that lot without it. And what I love about it is that it does everything I want it too without getting in my face with spurious features and gizmos and general "I'll code it like this because I can" trivia.

A wonderful piece of work, and the support is totally above and beyond.

Microsoft could benefit from this kind of Bad management!

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

Bad_T is the Anti-Troll -- a guy who has made a major contribution to the enjoyment of MSFS, and a powerful antidote to the (fortunately rare) individuals patrolling the forums whose mission is to lower it. Thanks, Bad_T!

I also wonna thank Bad-T and all the other creators for there endless work to make the simworld better 👍

Wow! We need some form of recognition for efforts like this!

Indeed! At minimum, the yellow colour that is given to third party developers here in Avsim forums. I am even surprised, none of WT or FBW developers have been given this special colour here in Avsim meanwhile they are all recognized in MSFS official forums with "Trusted third party developers" and "some" third party developers with no real contribution here in Avsim forums have been given this colour. I really think Avsim management should think about it, to give this recognition as well to these awesome freeware third party developers.
