Well, after looking at the LOD fix, all I can say is it was fun having 50 FPS while it lasted.  Happens when you game on a potato.

My observation is that AVSIM has many vocal long-time advocates that come across as having a blind enthusiasm. They are unphased by most issues with the sim as long as it remains even just slightly better than their previous-gen flight sim experience.

At what time has MSFS only been slightly better than previous-gen flight sims? Even at it's worst moments it's been massively better than anything previous for me.

Hopefully we will learn from this in the future.

Sadly it seems that people are already using it to justify childish behavior as an effective brute force method for affecting change.

Visually yes given the vast amount of photo-real coverage (close to 100%), but beyond the trees, water, and autogen, Xplane can give it a run for its money in many areas. Visuals are king though, I do admit.

Same. Even in the stutterbomb update where I couldn’t use it for a month, for me it’s still the only sim I want to invest in (currently).

I do see the frustrations, but I think there are more than a few users who don’t fully appreciate the scale or generational change of MSFS. Comparisons to legacy sims are unavoidable (even helpful sometimes), but XPlane, P3D etc. are incremental developments of legacy architectures. They’re not innovative platforms offering first-in-class cloud, AI and cross-platform features.

I’m sure it’s going to continue to be a bumpy ride, and it’s going to continue to need a degree of stamina, and calm, (which many quite reasonably may decide it’s not worth) to enjoy it. But what a ride.

Well all the x-boxes have known hardware and software. It's a lot easier to develop for something that everyone has identical specs on. There's virtually no unknown variables that the devs need to account for.

Well I guess it’s the people who have higher end rigs and speak up about issues that will drive this simulator forward and that’s the way it should be…. I invested into a heavy rig because I love this hobby and I’ve been doing that over years and won’t stop.

If it was up to the people running potato’s ohhh gosh don’t even wna go there…

And if it was up to me I wouldn’t be running to cater too much to the lower end rigs, yeah I would have adjustable sliders but my main focus would be how good the sim looks and how well the planes fly. It’s 2021, if you’re running a potato, upgrade… or switch to Xbox. Sim and  Xbox should definitely have a different cfg file.

Great to hear they’ve acknowledged it and are working on it…. We all know Asobo, they always fix it..And let’s hope they eventually fix that awful night lighting it looks so bad. That sepia is terrible and it’s never truely night time, the light pollution model is out of whack.

They cannot but be vague, Richard. The hunt of CTD is not exactly easy.  Why do you have some, why I do not have any ? There is a lot of trials and errors, a lot of technical scenarios to  make. At that stage, the important thing is the commitment to look into it . I hope they will bring you a solution but it may take some time.

Yeah, I understand that. I highly doubt there will be a solution to my CTDs sadly. The tickets I sent in got me just about no where at all, and the vagueness of their message is leading me to believe it will remain unsolved. Supremely annoying considering the sim was really stable before the update.

Ah, well. Knitting it is, then.

Ya' know......

Asobo is large enough to have a cadre of professional customer service people (and certainly, so does Microsoft) whose sole jobs is to massage us and smile understandingly no matter how atrociously we behave.

I've been a manager and done customer service myself, gently talking down hyperventilating, spittle spattering, insult spraying, and threat spewing members of the public.

I've listened calmly (as long as you don't touch me, but that's another story) figured out what was going on, formulated a solution and frequently received an apology (accepted, of course) as the individual(s) finally calmed down.

Throughout it all I de-escalated, while remaining calm myself, expressed apologies even if it was in no way my fault, etc etc....... Blah blah.

But in the privacy of my own mind, I know exactly what I thought of such people, and my solutions for them (wrongly, I know) tended to stop short of anything that required going above and beyond in fixing the problem.

I saved that for people who behaved like they had sense.

No doubt Aobo will duly address our issues. They will speak calmly, and possibly even apologize....

But as somebody who has been there, I have some..... strong suspicions of what they might be thinking at this point.

Just got a crash zooming into the map. Nice. Second time that's happened in the last 8 days.

Hotfix 2 is desperately needed.

But also needed is a lot more info when there is a CTD so we can fix issues.

Also MSFS should do more checking of addons and display alerts if there is some incompatibility.
