PMDG 777 Released

Yeah it’s weird cause the whole point of game DRM is to give the product a few days/weeks of security before it inevitably gets cracked. That way you get all the real buyers and the people who would never pay anyway just wait.

but here, the plane was cracked and ready for download within minutes. So all their DRM does is anger their real buyers. Quite the opposite of what it should be doing.

There is no "cracking" for anything which runs entirely in the sim that is available for purchase outside of the marketplace. All you need is the contents of what's in the Community folder. It's that hilariously easy, hence why this can happen within minutes.

That’s even funnier then. Why bother with aggressive and yet totally useless non-working DRM at all? Anyway, I’ll stop talking about this and get back to flying.

It was just posted on the official forums that basically 6000 of the earliest orders got put into holding because the initial demand was so high.  Should be released in the next 90-120 minutes… 🙄

That’s me done for the night.  Will they learn something for next time?  One can hope but history seems to repeat itself.

Unfortunately just so predictable - despite having 25 years plus of IT products being released over the internet we still have these issues.  I was going to be a day 1 purchaser but I think I will leave it until week 2 maybe things will be sorted out by then.

He actually posted a short version of the explanation 😆

SHORT VERSION AT THE TOP:
A few minutes after we made the 777 live, we experienced a sales spike that exceeded 20 sales per second for more than 4 minutes. Our providers had stressed tested for a theoretical limit that was 7x higher than what we saw with our 737 release, but this number was higher. That caused a few thousand orders to get "batched" into holding while the system triaged itself to keep running.

Once beyond the peak, the system stopped falling behind, but at it's worst there were 6,000 orders in holding for processing. That number has been halved in the 2hrs since release, and at the current rate of processing we anticipate all batched orders will be processed in the next 90-120 minutes.

Their providers had scaled up the system to handle orders that was 7x higher than the 737 on release, but this was even higher 😮 ... just those 6000 orders in holding in initial minutes/hours is a cool $466,000.00

I'm impressed the 777 is more popular than the 737, I think people were really needing a higher tier long haul:

Thanks to you- this release was FAR more popular than even our most aggressive modeling. To put it into perspective, first day unit sales of our 737 were exceeded within minutes. This is truly a compliment to the members of the PMDG team and we cannot thank you enough for your confidence in us.

So basically, PMDG made almost $400,000 in 4 minutes. Cool hahaha
