  • Why not use both? They have their strengths and weaknesses and no sim will ever be perfect anyway.. If you can afford a dedicated SSD for MSFS it's an easy decision.

  • I want my sim to look good at 1000ft and above and I personally don't care too much about having it look good at ground level as long as the airport looks correct. For low and slow flight, I really li

You must be joking to ask that question. Do you mean to tell me that you have been on XP11 all this time and never bother to use XP12 at all? To ask if the "X" is ever going to be better in the future when you never bother to try the new sim to see for yourself? XP12.1 was just completed with 12.2 on the way with more surprises and yet will never experience what they are because you don't use it.

But you're sure that MS 2024 is going to give endless pleasure, with no hiccups or bugs  that not even out yet.

Well good luck.

"Why not use both?"

This. And definitely upgrade to XP12, significant improvement over 11 and well worth the minimal expense..  XP has some excellent, mature aircraft that are not yet available in MSFS (e.g. Rotate MD-11).  Enjoy the best of both worlds.

Use both to their best... that's my suggestion...

MSFS to fly the World, XP12 to fly in the World ...

I guess they think we are suppose to care and "betting" its going to be better without realizing that some or most on this side of the fence use both sims and know better not to take MS at face value on anything.

I did let folk know that I was going with XP a year or so back but that was the Prepar 3D world and I had done a lot of stuff in FSX and the P3D (Mods rebuilds paints etc etc). I had no doubts about the superior software foundations and directions that XPlane was going - no brainer really and I was not interested in the MS business model and hence their sim! As for P3D it has reached the end of the line and I did not care for the Lockheed Martin business model either (proven with the release of V6). I guess you would need to have been involved in computers for a long time and not just microsoft but the other OSs and software platforms. Besides I detest the license every line of code view of the world!

So good luck with MSFS once you have tired of the scenery (and it is cherry picked to be good in some places and its awful in others) you might want to enjoy the simulation of flight and the rewards of the novelle and developing graphic power of XP. What ever the merits I want for nothing in the XP simulation I use, it continues to surprise and impress and for an out of the box desktop non internet streaming program - it is very impressive!

Want fries with that?

Unfortunately, no. X-Plane is doomed. Abandon ship now and move to MSFS while you still can.

They did pretty much exactly that a year or so ago.

now you have to pay an increased full price for

Good luck, have fun.

We are very fortunate to have three awesome sim platform: MSFS, XPlane and Prepar3D. They all offer unique features that make them appeal to their users. Some users use all three, some use two of the three and some use only one.  Some are still using older sims like FSX and the freeware Flightgear and are just as happy as those who use the latest version of the aforementioned sims. To the original poster, do as you wish and just enjoy the fun that comes with flightsimming.

Specs: black box thingy with spinning fans, lights and a bunch of wires that go to screens with pretty colours and a keyboard with many keys. The black box thingy also has a push button activated coffee cup holder.

Let's see what discount we will get as premium deluxe users of MSFS 2020 when 2024 get's released...

As a side note, there are classes of aircraft like helicopters and rotary wing on general as well as more sophisticated prop aircraft or aircraft with non standard geometries where MSFS can't even come close to what XP models... A "simple" free castering tailwheel on some classic prop aircraft... to give you yet another example of stuff MSFS doesn't model even by far comparably to XP. For those details I don't hesitate to pick XP instead of MSFS...

For airliners, specially those severely automated 😁 both sims do a similar job...

in an otherwise still immature platform in many areas.

for all those who do not specifically insist on an MD11,  there are free or low cost trials for both sims available so everybody can easily best decide for themselves.
