I will not be disappointed because my expectations are tempered -- it is not going to resolve all of the issues people have identified, I am quite confident of that. It will be a small step forward but hopefully lays the groundwork for several years of development that can take the simulator well past where 2020 is, but in my mind it is the start of a journey and not the the finished product.

I think most if not all of what is available in 2020 will come over to 2024, even if it takes a little time; the question I have is how many developers are going to charge for this as I do not think they are all going to be free, and to be fair some are quite justified in charging a fee. Regardless, I will clean up my install and be fairly discerning on what I bring over.

I was on the early beta or was it alpha?( can’t remember )group for MSFS 2020.

Those were dark days and I really didn’t like the product, and stuck with P3D and XP11 for a long time after FS2020 released.

Needless to say I now love what MSFS has become, although still find the flight modelling a bit cardboard for my liking.

So yes I was disappointed by the early days of FS2020 but I don’t think the same will apply to FS2024, they’ve learnt a lot and expect FS2024 to be a great 2nd generation product.

I have my fingers crossed that with their recruitment of some really talented aerodynamicists and flight modellers that FS2024 will combine sublime scenery with a sublime flight model and so will be something truly special.

I don’t think the price asked for these products for the pleasure and escapism they bring is anything other than a bargain.

Not anticipating any particular disappointments. Looking forward to getting it, but at the same time very happy with 2020. I will certainly get whatever the deluxe version ends up being called, but whether or not I go for day one will depend on the reports of the demand at the time. A few days wait won't kill me.

And I'll get two copies. I currently have a clean Steam install of 2020 running on my last generation PC (Store version on the primary sim) so I'll probably do the same with 2024. Plenty of drive space on both machines and it's a handy way to be able to check the native environment against my much-added-to live system. Which I'm sure will be the same with 2024 as it is with 2020 - lots of addons and extras, particularly if 2024 really does move more towards the digital twin concept.

Anticipating more good times ahead.

(as long as the servers play nice)

From what's been shown, I'm curious how many are actually anxious to quickly shell out $120. You know you'll need the Ultimate version or some of the coolest missions won't be available to complete.

Thinking of it differently, what features or expectations must FS2024 contain in order for you to be completely happy about dropping coin and side stepping into a very similar flight sim?

I guess Call of Duty, Madden and Farm Simulator folk perpetually have no regrets about funding evolutionary releases so why should flight sim fans be any different. The only thing that really bugs me is the possible impairment of already purchased 3rd party addons.

Flight Simming is my main hobby all linked to being into computing, while other friends have other expensive hobbies, £120 as a one of payment seems cheap.

Well I've bought a new drive for it so I won't have to uninstall 2020 so I'm in I guess. Day one. I'm wondering if there will be some kind of seamless upgrade process like, say, transitioning from Win 10 to Win 11 where you keep all your settings, apps and addons?

I have absolutely no concerns. They are building off a great base, so the only thing I foresee is initial teething issues with the servers. So I'm there day 1 with the big edition. I actually recently reinstalled Windows, went over to Windows 11 LTSC and I have no intention of reinstalling MSFS 2020, just waiting for 2024.

Unfortunately, in recent years games and simulators are more or less released still in beta phase.
Personally I bought MSFS2020 after 3 months from day 1 because too many people in my opinion were frustrated by bugs and the enthusiasm produced by the previews, was killed by reality. I think it will be the same for MSFS2024 so I will wait for the first patches. One thing is certain: if we want the MSFS project to continue, we must support it by buying it

I'll be one of the very first buyers as well. The complete package. I might be 'slightly disappointed' if that whole QNH only in Hg, no matter where you are in the world, isn't corrected. Other than that I couldn't care less and I'll check out my favorite parts of the world like I have done with very other MS flight sim since the very early nineties😁

No. I am not bracing for "disappointed."

Asobo and Microsoft have proven that they can and usually will deliver, time and time again.

If I was worried about spending $120 for a platform (that gives me access to ma ton of content at no additional cost, much unlike every other sim), I woud not be into flight simulation at all.

As someone who has been around in the early days and seen people ultra excited to drop $80 on a single plane over and over again, seeing complains about a new paid iteration of a simulator after over 4 years is incredibly hilarious.😂

Yeah that one always makes me chuckle. Some people are willing to drop hundreds of dollars on addons, $80 on a single plane, no issues supporting the community they love. The second a new version of the very platform that makes it all possible, the one thing that cost more money and man hours than all the addons combined and it's after 4+ years, then people suddenly pause. Oh no can we get a discount, why isn't it a free upgrade, word not allowed they already want money again? 😅

Day one for me also.

I'll purchase from Steam again as I've had no issues since launch.

I have game pass though so the sensible thing would be to try the free version from there first.

I have the money for upgrades - but would rather buy a new Bike 🙂
