December 2, 20241 yr Yes, until FS2024 start to support well FS2020 scenery and airports or those addons are finally FS2024 compatible. I already purchased my FS2024 and for now, will be like my lab simulator for testing things, with patience and calm will be customizing all my controls and learning its tricks. Btw, I also felt the confusion, frustration and the desire to uninstall FS2024 or ask for a refund, but no I see the great potential. Alexander Colka

My loading times are way better than MSFS2020. It takes around 3 minutes to get to the main menu (which still is long imho but not worse than MSFS2020: in my case it's slightly better) but the loading of the actual flights takes around 30 seconds which is faster than 2020. Getting out of the flight to the main menu is almost instant, like 2 seconds: I never quit to the main menu in 2020 because it took so long: I always simply pressed Alt-F4. Obviously 'quitting to the main menu' isn't a vital part of a flight sim, there are more important things, but I simply am happy with how well the sim loads etc. compared to 2020. The only bug I have with controls is that my joystick profiles aren't saved as default: I have to switch to that exact profile everytime I start MSFS2024. Luckily you can do that from the toolbar. Other than that MSFS2024 is totally awesome! I have to add though, in all honesty, I have ONLY done Free Flights with the Vision Jet... nothing else... so I can't say I thoroughly tested MSFS2024 and it's very well possible 'everything' works on my end because I haven't used 'everything' yet. But it's obvious to me that MSFS2024 'has potential' and I really do expect MSFS2024 to become THE FLIGHT SIM in time. Be it, 3 months, 6 months, a year... it's get there. And until then I really feel sorry for all those people for whom MSFS2024 has been a huge disappointment. That really sucks. I know the feeling because for me MSFS2024 sucked big time for one day and I even refunded it. I am extremely happy though that I 'undid' the refund on day 2...!
December 2, 20241 yr It feels a bit like 2020 is like a bunch of barefoot kids in some shanty town kicking around a makeshift soccer ball of plastic bags and cloth in the dirt. While 2024 is some prep school manicured lawn with a high paid coach and all the latest high tech equipment. But who's to say who's actually having more fun? Impossible to pinpoint. Some wise guy on here recently said just go back to FSX, but I'd have no trouble with that. I still like it and still use it. Anyway, for now, yep, still on 2020, and quite happy with it. I also don't mind leapfrogging. My current computer I bought in 2021 and it was considered mid range at the time. It runs 2020 with no trouble at medium settings, but 2024 might be pushing it. Maybe just get the most out of it until around 2028 (by then it might be ready for the scrap heap), and then splurge on something new and high end, both computer wise and sim wise. I'm in no hurry. At least these three-ring Asobo circus acts have got me a bit more interested in GPU's, VRAM and all that good stuff, which never interested me in the least bit previously just playing chess or Sim City.
December 2, 20241 yr I'm happy to continue with the MSFS 2020 for now and wait until it has settled down. I also want to upgrade my PC so I can get the most out of 2024. So I'll monitor how 2024 progresses and see when my favourite aircraft and sceneries in 2020 are migrated across.
December 2, 20241 yr I'm looking forward to the PMDGs coming across, but until then, I'm happy with just 2024 & the Fenix, mainly due to the increased performance rather than anything else.
December 2, 20241 yr I've still got 2020 installed, but not used since Nov 19. At some stage I'll uninstall it, but at the moment disk space is not a problem. At the moment I'm quite happy with 2024 - performance seems better, especially when running AI traffic (vs 2020). Visually it's a winner - although there are some odd glitches here and there (which is also true for 2020). And I haven't had any streaming issues whatsoever for quite a few days now. It probably takes around 3 mins to start the sim (the 60GB AIG folder contributes to longer loading time) - but as someone mentioned above - actually loading a flight (end ending a flight) is much faster than 2020. As more airports and aircraft become available, I don't see the need to keep 2020 installed. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5
December 2, 20241 yr I've got both and I do play around with 2024 - but it's not ready for the prime time yet. There's all the stuff that's just not ready/borked such as AI traffic, the library, the buggy UI, the daft way freelook is either way too fast or too slow. the controls are still a mess and there are lots of issues with scenery and aircraft. That said, I've taken a couple of flights in the Fenix and can see the potential. Unfortunately for me it doesn't perform as well as I'd hoped, even on a 4080 Super/7800X3D setup. Landing is a jittery blurry mess for me at the moment. 2024 is for playing around - 2020 is for the serious stuff.
December 2, 20241 yr Fenix got their act together much faster than I had hoped so I jumped onto v24 sooner than planned, but after the scandal of the initial roll-out had subsided. I found the transition infuriating at first, mainly because of the confusing (to me) control UI. There are definitely still plenty of niggles (eg, on my pc, the "Live" weather setting doesn't stick from one session to the next, the AI traffic is all over the place at a busy airport with total chaos on runway choice etc, the fixation on "first person experiences" like walking around seems imbecilic to me especially as it cannot be turned off, etc etc). However, the overall experience is promising. - It is already materially better than v20 from the visual/ graphics point of view: check out London, for example. - Performance is comparable with v20, or even slightly better, despite all the extra bells and whistles like road traffic and spectacular shadows / lighting. - The streaming does sometimes produce more stutters than v20, but not ruinously imo. - The weather is better, especially cloud / haze. Cloud break-out can be astonishing! - The improved atmospheric model is not limited to better weather depiction. For example, under the right conditions at dawn/dusk/night, the glow from urban lighting now actually illuminates the sky: I nearly fell off my chair when I first saw it! - There is also an appreciable change in how the aeroplane "feels" both on the ground and airborne. I don't know if it's more or less authentic, but it "feels" more dynamic and responsive to external conditions, so I presume that it's an improvement in verisimilitude. So: for the way I use the sim, basically just procedurally in a big jet, there is no reason to go back to v20. 14900ks, RTX4090, 64Gb@6000-30-36-36-T2, Samsung 990Pro 2Tb , Dell G3223Q 32" 4k Gsync + 27" secondary monitor. December 2, 20241 yr Yes, i'll keep using it until such times as all the bugs etc are ironed out of 2024. Though, I have to say - I think 2024 looks superb! I'm seeing a lot of people writing off 2024 already - however, I wonder how many of these people belonged to the Prepr3d group that were dead against MSFS 2020 when it was released and claimed it would never be better than prepar3d🤣. December 2, 20241 yr I've switched full time since release. The only 2020 flight I've done since the 19th is a test flight in the RJ. With the Fenix working in 2024, an RJ 2024 update planned this week (and I can get it to work in 2024 in the meantime), and the decent INI planes I'm set. I am in the Southwest VA and I am going to activity timeout on it in a few weeks. Tonight I'll probably do a 2020 737 flight to reset the timer. Sure, I want the PMDG and the iFly in 2024, but there is enough to keep me busy.
December 2, 20241 yr I will continue with MSFS2020 until Prosim737 is working with MSFS2024.
