The PMDG MAX is NOT officially dead but if you read between the lines its dead.  It has been kicked so far down field its actual release is unlikely.  RSR likes to twist and turn his word salads and use specific words to the "T".  Basically he killed the MAX by not actually saying he killed the MAX.  Also his MAX statement was so full of it relying on certain possibilities that it will fall into a continuous state of being delayed.  He even set it up so he can blame it on that other "Enterprise Project" forever.

I can only speculate but I don't think PMDG ever actually had the MAX or at least beyond a stage of basic modeling.  It was all RSR just trying to offset anyone else from developing one so when the time comes they have free game on that plane.  It failed and it failed horribly since iFly started showcasing its project.  RSR claims the iFly and the Asobo Max project has nothing to do with him putting off the Max but I am pretty sure judging by his personality this is exactly why.  I am sure the PMDG Max offering would be pretty comparable to its NG Series which would not be a bad thing necessarily.  However I don't think RSR wanted the toxic reviews and statements from many users and felt it would damage PMDG's reputation.  So he 86'ed the project for now and probably for a long time.  It might be reborn 5 years from now when the 737 Series including the MAX is completely rebuilt from the ground up for FS2028.

I still hope it comes out just so we can maintain a level of consistency between the current PMDG NG Series and the MAX but this is not a formula for successful sales.  Also in time PMDG was likely going to do the whole MAX series whereas as of right now iFly is only doing the 8.  I sure hope iFly plans to expand its offering and I think its a possibility since they now own the payware MAX for now.  Heck I hope they bring the NG line into FS2020/2024 as well eventually and we can retire the PMDG 737 Series.  I enjoy the PMDG NG series but it is definitely starting to become dated.  Eventually PMDG will catch up "maybe" but it will be 5 years down the road.  By then the other competitors will be even further along.

Can you blame us though. I say again its just like GFO. We've all been around long enough to know what PMDG says you take for gospel.

The GFO!😂😂😂

I still laugh when I remember their announcement presentation in the FSExpo, they hyped it so much, people even thought they would announce a new simulator. I was so disappointed… And in the end they never released it, and didn’t have the balls to officially cancel it.

I remember back then one of the reasons they might have put on hold was because project fly was free and pretty much did the same thing.

No, not at all, they absolutely seem to have punted it down the road indefinitely.  I just find it laughable that some feel this decision is due to the iFly previews and that some thing PMDG needs to fabricate a story of having an enterprise or commercial customer.  Personally I think with iFly not being available in the marketplace Asobo would have been PMDG's biggest concern.  Whatever they lose to the hardcore PC enthusiasts (myself included in that group) they could still more than make up for with Marketplace sales.

That's just my personal opinion though.  I will also be purchasing iFly day 1 regardless of what PMDG does and as I have said the only thing that would cause me to still hope for a PMDG version would be if iFly lacked the Hardware support and LVars that PMDG does for those of us with HW modules.

Other than that, go iFly.  I have always supported them and remember them as very akin to Fenix a small but dedicated group of developers who put out exceptional products!

Edit:  I also think with PMDG handling the NG, 777 and 747 and iFly handling the Max that would leave the 787 as an Ideal next project for iFly 🙂  That would be an incredible Boeing lineup!

The 787 would indeed be very welcome either by PMDG or IFly.

You may find it laughable but communication is key, PMDG does fabricate a story and we will never know the actual reason we just need to take what they say with a pinch of salt.

My concern remains systems depth - have systems details been omitted in exchange for a goofy operating cabin?  I don't know and I guess we won't know until it releases, but folks in their discord are saying that the streams showcasing it make it appear that the speed trim system isn't simulated.  If true, that sure doesn't speak to a very deep simulation.

Coincidentally, I did a shared cockpit PMDG 73 flight with a buddy last night after not really using that plane in the sim for months, and I found myself impressed all over again with all the small systems and cockpit details they got right.  Not to mention an extensive menu of failures, good single engine flight model, etc.  I had hopes that the iFly might be even better, but this definitely makes me wonder.  But I'm also just basing this on what others are saying who have watched the streams..  I guess we'll see.

I highly doubt that flightdeck2sim would have praised it the way he did if this was the case. He stated that this pre-release version is better than the PMDG 737 was at launch, and I'm sure it will continue to get even better.

Did he do a V1 cut?  How did the failures menu look?  He's a guy I've watched that I've liked in the past; I didn't know he'd done a video on it, I'll have to check that out, thanks.

I don't think so, but he praised the flight model and said it was better than PMDG's. He says that the PMDG 737 in it's current state is more complete overall, but that at release it was not as good as the iFly is. Here is the video:

I know there are videos and screenshots of her now everywhere...but not any of this livery (because it's not available just yet to the streamers or beta team) 🙂

She is going to be nice to fly to Cancun.  I've really enjoyed painting her...and she is a blast to fly.  There will be a bunch of liveries included in the livery manager on release * Steve does NOT know the release date, and couldn't say if he did. 😉

Goofy is kindof offending to anyone wanting the most realistic passenger experience in all of Flight Sim.

Only thing missing is meals and study level toilet flush.

Very nice job indeed, as always. Please consider painting Aerolineas Argentinas. There are 2 cool liveries for the max.

Hello all,

I know it is early days but I just read forum topic about PMDG 747-100.  I really do wonder if IFly could follow up the MAX with their 747-800. I would be a first day buyer of that one too.  It was a significantly great aircraft in FS2004 and P3Dv4 and 5.

I will keep hoping and maybe they can steal the march on PMDG again LOL

Steve,

I loved your screenshots and thank you for them. Can you tell  me just how hard will it be to convert a P3D repaint to MSFS2020? of this aircraft.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend, it just seems like, if someone actually tried to come up with the most irrelevant features possible to add to a flight sim, it would be hard to top working overhead bins.  It just seems pointless.  A bit of fun as a novelty, sure, but when I saw those kinds of things being demoed instead of really demanding systems fidelity examples, it kind of made me wonder, that's all.  I genuinely hope I'm wrong and it's got the most detailed systems of any airline sim we've ever seen.  And maybe it does... I'm just wondering why no one is really demonstrating that.

I agree with you, but I think that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Fenix did a lot of things that seem unnecessary (tire compression simulation or dust accumulation simulation on the engine cowl), but they still have one of the best aircraft out there.
I think it's most likely gone like this: Small team, one or two devs are working on systems, one dev was on idle after finishing the model/textures, so he asked "Hey while waiting for you guys to finish the systems, I want to do overhead bins that open, what do you think?" - "Sure, seems like a nice feature that people will talk about and since you're not doing anything at the moment, go ahead".
If it was PMDG, they'd probably shifted him over on to one of the other 3 variants/aircraft they are working on, but iFly does not have any other projects, so that's how these things come to life
