Problem list with FS2024 so far

I didn't prebuy because I thought I'd be flying a perfect sim on day one. I prebought because I wanted to invest in the future of MSFS. As much as 2020's launch was an unmitigated disaster, and as frustrating the first year or two was while we waited for major bugs to be fixed, and as annoying as it is that we're 4 years on and there are still light stanchions in the middle of taxiways, 2020 is also the best flight simulator ever made for home consumption and it singlehandedly sparked a renaissance in hardware and 3pd addons. I've never had a better time simming than I'm having right now in 2020.

Apparently it is too much to ask to learn from past mistakes and not repeat them again.

I have not even bought the game yet, but I find this absolutely infuriating. It comes across as carefree incompetence

How about a flagship product is not released with server issues and glaring bugs, AGAIN?!

It's angering enough that this is becoming industry standard, but the same company cocking up another initial release of one of their flightsims, is frankly inexcusable.

The issue with controls settings not sticking/binding is perhaps mostly due to the confusing way that making changes to the default profiles was done.

This is really confusing, and I'm not great at wording things right, but I'll try my best:

1.) When you change a setting (keyboard or controller), you have to save the change to a new profile (something like "my new aircraft settings profile").

If you don't do anymore than just saving it under the default new profile name, you will likely have negative results next time you load the sim, as it will appear that it didn't stick. What happens is that if loads up the default profiles again (for keyboard, mouse, and any controllers). This drove me nuts until I figured out what was happening. This gets confusing, so bare with me:

2.) Since the bindings apparently didn't stick, I repeated step 1 again, thinking that I had fixed it again. But this time, my new changes don't even work, as it is stuck on the default setting.

What happens is that there are now 2 (or 3) "my new aircraft settings profiles", all with the same name, which seems to make the sim revert to the default settings.

This worked for me:

  1. Delete all the "my new aircraft settings profiles" (in both areas: General Controls and Airplanes Controls)
  2. Rename this to something else after you save it (I used just "Airplanes". Do this in both areas again.
  3. Now make this new profile Default, and if you want to use these changes for all aircraft, click on that as well.

MS must have put on a helluva press event that pulled the wool over many of the "journalists/influencers" in attendance or they saw and knew what was going on, ignored it and edited out the flaws

Yeah, those of us who are more "honest" don't get invited to these events and the "influencers" know what greases wheels. Is what it is. Microsoft wants to make money on Flight Simulator and "influencers" are "pitch men" not "reviewers." They got a free trip to the Grand Canyon, hotel, food, etc. out of it. Microsoft expects a return on that investment. You just have to keep that in mind when you're listening to people being paid in a way to promote a product.

I don't disagree with you. However, it's the reality of how MS does things. We all know that and can make choices accordingly. If you find it too infuriating, don't buy their stuff when it first releases.

The alternative is to boycott it entirely and switch to Xplane, but that's not something I'm too interested in doing. I'm willing to put up with some jankiness at the beginning if I'm reasonably confident the product will become stellar which in this case, I am.

I do think MS is absolutely stupid to do things this way, but I also think absolutely nothing is going to change that.

When I just change livery...it goes back to default profile.  Super irritating.

You have to understand that the "influencers" were shown a limited version of the sim, where not everything was available, and they were not installing the sim, as it was up and running for them.  So maybe what they saw did really impress them.

My guess is that the biggest problems that users are having is the direct result of the server issues (which is indeed the single most negative issue). Because of the server issue, not everything is getting installed correctly.  Give things a few more days, as starting the sim again may fix the bad installs.  For example, yesterday I had just 4 aircraft and now I have all of them (I think, I haven't actually counted them).

Overall, MSFS 2024 has been running great for me and I'm having a blast with it. Yes, there are a LOT of issues that need to be fixed, but that happens with a new release of every single sim I have ever used (and with most games, and with just about any complex program).

Same team. Same result. Not sure how anyone living through 2020 for 4 years would have expected anything else?

I would. Because people who fail once usually correct and do better next time.

Low res terrain textures everywhere.

I have LOD on 150 and texture quality on high .  I'm assuming this is at their end?

Installed earlier today and did not encounter any problems installing or creating character, thought I had got lucky..... BUT...I can't even load into a flight, either crashes and hangs on the map, or crashes to desktop when loading into a flight. Been trying on and off for hours.
