If this is to be believed then MS planned for 200,000 users simultaneously and the servers have been overwhelmed with no perceived fix in the near term other than throttling the number of users, hence the queue.

Apparently, not a great headline by TH.

Horrible title from the author at Tom’s Hardware. As Seb said, they load tested for 200K users to download specific files from cache simultaneously. But once those files are downloaded, there was no need to download it again, so those users wouldn’t hammer that section of cache again.

[...]

The MSFS team planned for far more total users than 200K, they just didn’t plan for over 200K users to simultaneously hit that cache at the same time.

  • Well, this isn't going to take 5 minutes to fix-up is it?  I expect it could be well into next year.  I see people saying we need to be patient, and patience is a virtue.  Well, if wasting my life a

  • 😄, posting goodbye threads and Youtube videos.  I saw this coming a mile away (a total cloud sim 🤨).  It might be March 2025 before I dive in (maybe next summer).

I see floating objects at KDEN plus AI planes that have invisible parts. But the AI traffic is a lot better. Planes are landing and taking off the moment I enter the sim, so it isn't like the airport wakes up when you load in.

Why because someone on reddit said so?

So their servers regardless of which "aspect" of their servers (cache) were not tested for more than 200,000 simultaneous users which subsequently caused additional users from connecting.  The headline seems pretty accurate LOL.

Whether it's the edge, the core or the database is almost irrelevant if the launch exposed the weakest link which was only tested and able to support 200,000 simultaneous users and was pinpointed as the cause of the issues.

No, rather it's because Tom's Hardware has a (recent) history of being clickbaity bollards.

Nah, I think the point we're making is that MS did not only expect 200,000 users to log in, which is what the article states, and apparently everyone thinks that MSFS only was slated to sell 200,000 copies on launch day.

Your point is correct - they screwed up and should have done better, but they certainly can support more than 200,000 users, is all. They didnt' have a hard limit on 200,000, must have been more like 6-7 million (you can calculate from the concurrent users, variables are session length and whether your traffic is evenly distributed over the day). And they clearly had more than X millions of people try and log in on day 1.

But your broader point is correct, this is still their fault and they have no excuse for not estimating the load correctly.

At EDDM I was taxing and fall through the bridges leading to the taxi way. Had to use slew to get over them.

Had a brief flight over London and down under about an hour ago - fps and loading times seemed better for me.

anybody can tell me how to SAVE and RELOAD a flight in Free Flight mode as we could in MSFS2020? he, but only he 😄 may then enjoy this screenshot, taken today between KFHR Friday Harbour and S31 Lopez Island, using real weather.

very nice.

I haven't read the full 11 pages, but @VeryBumpy please feel free to add "Borked multi monitor support" to your initial list. For reasons nobody quite understands when you add a second render windows to 2024 it zooms all the way out.....and unfortunately you can't independently zoom each monitor (nor could you in 2020). For some strange reason, adding a third monitor works fine....

I have now got into a flight only to find the aircraft will not move after pushback. Chocks removed, parking brake off, tug removed, power to engines. A321 goes nowhere 😬

This has happened to me multiple times in different aircraft - A321, A330, A400.

Only way to move is to change the panel state via EFB

Not sure if anyone else had this/solutions?

Yeah only way I’ve got past it is EFB, I’ll mess about with key configs tomorrow

Yea at this stage I won’t have any time until Sunday due to work. Good luck! I tried slewing on/off, toe brakes on/off with pedals, park brake on/off, and definitely not connected to tugs and chocks are off…

It’s a bit frustrating to have set up a flight and can’t go anywhere. TOGA’d the throttle and the bugger still won’t move 😂
