12.2

Not directly related to this "dark cockpits" issue, but X-Plane has the most natural / realistic lighting and colours for the scenery and skies at some times of the day.

Way better than MSFS 2024 for my taste.

Great step forward! Cockpit was definitely unrealistically dark before.

I'm pretty sure that some people will still not be 100% satisfied and keep complaining, but you can't please everyone.

"it's brighter inside my cockpit than outside".

But as long as we can turn it off I'll be happy.

Hope they throw in better shades as well. The default in 12.1.4 are way too weak.

🤩 It looks like an excellent job! 👏
You can't imagine how happy I am to see this wonderfully realistic image after so many years of dark unrealism! 🙏

I thank the "troll" Sir Biology for having insisted in the search for the truth and for the tenacity put in place to achieve this just goal. 🏆
You have been a good companion of adventure with whom to share our troll ideas. 😉

And now I move on to the deserved counterattack. 😈
I expect that all those who for months accused us of writing nonsense regarding that bug, will not update XP to v12.2, and will continue to fly with the dark panels.
It would be the only sensible thing to do to save face (and pride) after all the misinformation they have spread by always denying the existence of the problem.

Dear "denialist fans", how do we put it now?
If you really believe that the dark panels were realistic (as you have always claimed and defended!) it is time to show the world who you are and what you really believe in.
Keep flying with 12.1.4, don't you dare update your sim to 12.2 !!

You sir are a soothsayer and an scholar. And not just your comment, but all the way down to your signature. And with that respect, I shall mourn that others are unable to join you in such musings.

Oh great! This really bothered me to the point I would adjust the time to make it darker outside so I could see the cockpit…

glad to see this.

Gaslighting at its finest.  He even asked me in private if it was him you were referring to.  The fact you would even consider he was a troll, is out of line.

I'm pretty sure I will update to 12.2.

As a matter of fact, I already have.

The irony is I knew about this lighting fix quite a while ago.

Not everyone experiences this issue to the same extent, as it can depend on factors like the aircraft model, lighting settings, and personal preferences. So for me this has never been a big issue. But I am aware that for some it was bad and I am happy that Laminar fixed it with 12.2.

This!

While it is true that there was a discrepancy in how the human eye/brain processing adjusts to lighting conditions in a real cockpit and the way it can do this with an image of the same scene shown on a computer screen (and this is what was changed in 12.2), there are two other factors that determined how much a user was affected by this "bug":

1. Lack of exposure fusion to emulate human eye/brain post-processing - fixed.

2. Individual monitor properties/settings

3. User expectations

Especially the third point is varying wildly between users, and it is telling that the rate of complaint about "my cockpit is too dark" is lower among real pilots. There are many users still yearning for the good old days of 2D cockpits when everything was well lit and legible - but part of X-Plane´s mission statement is to make the flying experience realistic...yes, even the parts that are unpleasant/making it more difficult. I can not count the times when I complained to my FO that I have a hard time reading the CRTs when flying facing the sun, especially on the older models of the A320 family I flew for 10 years.

I don’t know. Am I?  Being called a troll isn’t a very nice thing.

But that's the point, he was trying to make fun of the people that claimed that Biology and himself were trolls, back when they were trying to tell about cockpits being way too dark, while other members (including myself, probably) kept saying that all was fine.

Or maybe I'm misunderstanding or confusing ?

Little dramatic perhaps.

But I will actually give you this win.

Some years ago we had a 35+ pages thread where plenty of prolific posters in this subforum who - for some unexplainable reason, I mean just look at the before/after image - failed to acknowledge it and went full frontal assault on those who wanted it corrected. Even a few real airline pilots chimed in and were met with the same defensive manners.

So savour the win, but do not rub it in.
