FS24 isn't doing well on Steam. Neither is FS20.

I fired up FS24 today just to see how the latest SU was looking. I went to get some water and came back to my Windows desktop. Sigh.

Just curious, do you continue to have CTD when you don't dabble in the latest SU beta, and just run default planes and keep things fairly simple?  I ask because I'm not having any CTD and have maybe 65 flights now under my belt.  But I only have maybe 12 3rd party airports from 2020 I enabled.  I use 2024 with Self Loading Cargo, BATC, APL and don't seem to have any  stability issues whatsoever.

Er, people who are interested in flight simulation and the prospect of continued support for our hobby down the years? As usual it will probably turn into another miserable MSFS 2020 vs MSFS 2024

This is why I don't really use it. Who cares if the physics and ground are so good, when objects are popping in front of you? Or melted buildings and blobs of trees are surrounding an airport. You can

I think as more addons become fully compatible then MSFS 2024 will grow considerably

Hard to believe but PMDG did not release their 737 series for MSFS 2020 until TWO YEARS after 2020 launched.  Nice to put that in perspective 😉

Maybe the Navigraph survey will help give us a better idea of steam vs. xbox.

In the meantime, why don't we all just agree to switch to P3Dv6?

In real time (Steam):

MSFS2020:

https://steamdb.info/app/1250410/charts/

MSFS2024:

https://steamdb.info/app/2537590/charts/

It looks like the proportion is close to 2 to 1 (players right now). Just real stats on the Steam platform.

That tracks, I can get FS2024 to work 96%.  But... MSFS works all the time.  FS2024 is going to need to get the airplanes off the cloud, because it is really messing the game up.

My last four flights have been with 2024 and A2A, two of which have ended in CDT.

Look on the bright side, server capacity is getting better matched to demand😁

Flight sims have always been a very small sector of the gaming market and I'm guessing as gaming as a whole has got more immersive and action filled its a smaller proportion now than in the 80's

I'm a current Private pilot and life long aviation enthusiast and generally might spend maybe 3 hours a week playing on flight sims sometimes weeks with no play.

They get boring quick for me

Looks like, at present, twice as many are using 2020 versus 2024. I have noticed that numbers are trending down with 2024, while 2020 numbers remain pretty steady.

Spoken like a true MSFS 2020 shark👍😆

MSFS 2024 is getting there. It's a matter of time before these numbers change and you and everyone else, now reluctant to jump on the 2024 wagon, will be on board. Then there will be the next version, lol.

Meanwhile, Game Pass had 34 million subscribers last year, and Microsoft's last fiscal quarter saw a 30% growth in PC Game Pass subscribers. Anyone who thinks the majority of MSFS 2024 users are on Steam is mistaken.

it's not about the total numbers, it's about the trend

it's a fair assumption that the overall trend would be the same for FS2024 in Gamepass, even if the total numbers are bigger

Complaining about disk space is something I've never understood, storage is currently very cheap compared to the thousands of dollars of hardware needed to move 2024 decently, and that's without taking into account the wear and tear on SSDs from constant data streaming.

problems with the LODs and PG are very serious failures in 2024, and frankly should NOT have been an issue in what is supposed to have been a new, improved version of the sim.

But we are where we are, and I just have to carry on flying where I know or discover things are good and hope they fix the PG before too long

This is why I don't really use it. Who cares if the physics and ground are so good, when objects are popping in front of you? Or melted buildings and blobs of trees are surrounding an airport. You can't unsee them. I could possibly live with the PG, or even just turn it off. However what I can not do is increase the LOD of AI planes and objects in an aiport. There simply isnt an option to do so, not even forcing it to max with AUTOFPS program works.

The LOD and AI need fixing, badly. Its not like they need to be in a really good state either, 3rd party can focus on that. The problem is, they ain't even at a passble state!

Performance is pretty good, atmosphere is pretty good, aircraft for the whole are pretty good. Landing on 'pebbles' is irrelevant when to my left is a blob resembling a tree and to my right, taxi signs are popping in 5 yards away from me.

PS not to mention the 'minecraft' runways when you're above 3000ft ish. Or the awful vehicle traffic, or boats popping in to place when you're 300 foot above them.

It's as if the basics are left behind. We have super advanced FMC's and GPS in the sim, yet we can't read taxi signs until we're on top of them.

The problem that I have with MSFS 2024 is that I just don't trust it. I see plenty of people singing its praises on this forum, but I also see plenty more (here and elsewhere) who are having problems with it, or just do not like some of the "features" that seem to be lacking. I am not going to bother trying to explain any of this to anyone. I am fussy, and little things matter to me. Until those little (and big) things have been addressed to my satisfaction, I will not be touching MSFS 2024.

I completely agree and this is a point some people tend to overlook. While Steam doesn’t directly represent the Xbox crowd, I’d be willing to bet the trends we see among steam users are similar across all platforms. The trend is your friend.

I agree, that's the reason I haven't bought it yet, I hate pop-in and wouldn't put up with it for more than 5 minutes, I've decided to wait to buy until it works at least as well as my 2020 does, and I can live with 2020 for several years to come if necessary.

Exactly this. Because real-time figures are available Steam is a very relevant.

In December 2024 Steam also managed to accumulate 39 million users online simultaneously. Whatever argument you want to make, you can't really discount this data.

P3D6? LMAO even P3D advocates (4.5 and 5.3) users have not moved over and now they are talking about a 7 version?.

BTW when is the Navi results coming out to be released or MS trying to manipulate (Polls) that in favor of 2024? and they are losing XBOX users by the day because they can not even run MS 2024 in a decent way.
