Staying with 2024

Featured Replies

Since there is already a long thread about going back to 2020, I thought I would share my observations about MSFS 2024.

I just went for a lovely flight in my C-BERT registered F33 Bonanza (Carenado payware), starting at CYVR, overflying downtown Vancouver, before heading for an RNAV LPV approach into my homebase of CYCD Nanaimo.

Other than the fact that the F33 has a problem with its autopilot, and does not capture a target altitude correctly (reported to Carenado..), the flight was just lovely..

Smooth all the way (fps locked at 60), stunning scenery (helped by Samscene Vancouver), and a really good feeling of "being there".

Every week, I fly with some of my Avsim buddies, somewhere in the world, as we have been doing for years.. first in P3D, then in MSFS 2020, and for the last 6 months or so, in MSFS 2024.   The multiplayer model matching is now finally pretty good, the LOD issues with missing nosewheels in multiplayer aircraft still unresolved, but overall very stable, and totally enjoyable.  Overall, I have never been happier with my flightsimming, a really immersive experience!

I hope that Asobo continues on their journey to fix the remaining bugs, and that Carenado updates my F33 Bonanza..  other than that, things are good.. 🙂

  • Can we keep this to MSFS 2024 ?  I am getting a little XP tired.  Again XP VS MSFS..   Thank you 🤨

MSFS 2024 continues to amaze me. There is already a flight dynamics thread where some 30 to 50 real life pilots have their opinions recorded on the new flight dynamics, and most of them have said very positive things about MSFS 2024.  The new ground physics, with the procedurally generated rocks and boulders, make MSFS 2024 the most realistic flight simulator on the ground overall because the landscape has become infinitely more real (yes, the land in real life has a lot of rocks and boulders throughout, lol).

The graphics at ground level, especially outside cities in forests, mountains, lakes, deserts, etc, are the most realistic ever. When you combine the graphics at ground level with the rocks and boulders laying throughout the world, it puts MSFS 2024 in a class of its own when it comes to bush flying. Now MSFS 2020 was the best flight simulator before when it came to bush flying.  But it's a world of difference between MSFS 2024 and MSFS 2020 bush flying.

And the default avionics. Well, MSFS 2020 already had the best default avionics for a flight simulator.  But Working Title added the Honeywell Primus Epic 2 and Universal UNS-1 to MSFS 2024.

I can't go back to MSFS 2020 as well, and I haven't flown in MSFS 2020 since 2024 came out. I have only kept 2020 installed in case I get the itch to fly the PMDG 737, but once the PMDG 737 is ported over, I will uninstall MSFS 2020.

MSfS 2020 was the best flight simulator up to 2024.  But the torch has been passed to MSFS 2024, and I want to see how far the MSFS team can take MSFS 2024.

i5-12400, RTX 3060 Ti, 32 GB RAM

I will stay with MSFS2024 until MSFS2028, which will be even better. Until then, I am in Sim heaven in the best flight sim I have ever experienced on a home computer.

 9950X3D - X870E Aorus Master- TUF 5090 OC - 64GB DDR5 - 1500W HXi - Titan 360 RX LCD - 9100 Pro x 2  - LG 45GX950A - HOTAS Warthog with Ava Base

I feel the same way, I have kept 2020 installed just in case I need to try an non upgraded aircraft or scenery in 2024.  Otherwise I have not used 2020 since 2024 came out.  I am a VFR General Aviation sim pilot so 2024 works and looks great for me.

I'm with you Bert, although while not being able to describe it as "going back", and not wanting to put it as "mooving forward" I find myself several times moving sideways between fs 2024 and xp12...

Flying gliders since 1980

Flightsimming since 1992

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

FS2024 all day long, I was quite skeptical at first but once I tried it, I was a done deal, tried going back just because of PMDG 737, however, the immersion I've experienced in FS2024 is beyond FS2020, not the same, the environment, smoothness (my pc can maintain 60fps no FG in most scenarios I fly with graphic in ultra, granted Im running 1080p) it loads incredibly fast and unlike others that have reported issues setting up controls, I had no issues setting up  mine, it is quite easy once figure you figure it out, I love the fact that with every aircraft you decide to fly with, its loads its assigned profile along with it.

Is it perfect, absolutely not, I will only get better over time no doubt about that. Eventually all the naysayers will realise there is no reason be the last one standing.

2024? Once you've seen it, it's really difficult to unsee it.

I appreciate that a lot of people seem to have a lot of problems but my experience these last few months has been seamless enjoyment.

Yup truly feel bad for those still experiencing non-trivial issues, but when it works 2024 is a thing of wonder.. world/terrain depiction and visuals, flight dynamics, ground handling, lighting, weather etc etc all next level in 2024. I still keep 2020 around to fly some aircraft not native/compatible to 2024 yet, but find that I'm using it less and less, and it really is hard to go back to 2020 once having experienced 2024 in working form 🙂 That's not at all to say 2020 is no good, it's a great sim and a hallmark one at that, which still can continue to give tremendous enjoyment. For me, as with others who are not experiencing deal-breaking issues, 2024 is it. Yes it should not have been released in the state that it was, but at least they've been working away diligently to get it to the state it is now with SU2, and although I don't usually participate in SU betas SU3 looks to be another great set of improvements (not bad for 6-ish months after the horrible initial release).. I look forward to SU3's release and future SUs to come where MS/Asobo can both chip away at the defect backlog and also get back to providing new enhancements and capabilities.

2024 is far from the great leap you guys are making it out to be.

At least for the hard core simmer that has 2020 working just fine after 4 years of hard work. The difference is really quite subtle, and let's not forget how very bad 2020 was when it first came out.

Subtle or not, I also find it very hard going back to 2020 when I have no other choice.

What 2024 brings for me is the better graphics of course, the better ground handling. Those amazing clouds The 2024 airports coming out that are amazing and most of all the better frame rate and fluidity. That alone is worth the price of admission.

And somehow, even more emersion then ever before that was already pretty awesome in 2020.

The great planes are slowly coming out and once 2024 stabilizes, I expect great new versions of our favorite planes to come out.

For the casual gamer however 2024 is a great leap forward that offers everything  you could ask for out of the box.

You can fly a pretty good plane with good ATC and traffic and you can even  plan a flight plan right  inside the sim. Not to mention the geat scenarios that are offered.

If I was a casual gamer that just wanted to have fun on the weekend 2024 is amazing and offers everything you could think of.

Not being a casual gamer my feelings are more tempered, but no less appreciative of what what 2024 offers.

The potential of 2024 is is pretty high indeed.

Call me converted.

Can you give me a alleluia.

MSFS 2024 -Too many airplanes to name. Too many airports to name.

Always great to hear our flight simming just keeps getting better.  I will throw a however out there, the newest sim, as far as I can see, requires a much greater investment in a new PC in order to get the most out of it.  My PC is six years old or is it seven, and looking at the specs listed on a few posts, one would most likely need to think of a PC upgrade to experience the best in the new sim.

I can't answer that as I upgraded my computer for 2020 just before  Christmas.

However I will say 2024 runs way better then 2020 with the computer I have.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with the part boldfaced above. I have a nearly 5-year-old computer with its original video card (Alienware Aurora R11, 32 GB ram, Intel i7-10700F, GeForce RTX 2080 Super, Ultra/high  graphics settings) and I am seeing smooth performance even in high-density scenery areas. I will never see the 100+ FPS that some claim to see with high-powered rigs, but I couldn't care less, because 30 FPS in MSFS2024 is the smoothest flying I have ever experienced. In contrast to what is said above, I think the truth is the opposite: MSFS2024 works better with older systems than MSFS2020 or its predecessors. For most users, I suspect no PC upgrade is required at all.

The first minute ifly's 737 max 8 touches down at msfs 2024 runway, is the minute I'm switching sims.

Yes I can't wait. Flying the

727 and the 300-600 right now.

Waiting on the new update to start flying the CRJ again.

All 3 planes flying very well in 2024

I whole heartly agree with your post. Since I installed 2024 from released date, I can't go back to 2020b with all the scenery enhancements I installed over the years. 2020 was excellent in its times with its bugs and all. But 2024 is my sim of choice. And I can't go back either, even though I miss my PMDG and Flt one 737's. That's what's holding me back from removing 2020 from my system. I'm full speed forward to the future of 2024.
