CSS 737-500 Classic is out

Oh! I didn't know that. Thought it was only the 500 variant. If indeed it also includes pax/cargo variants my interest just got piqued.

Are you that easy to fool?

A completely new developer with no reputation bad or good, asks 150€ in advance for an entire line of products that will be developed. As they say...

If an established entity like Fenix, PMDG, Inibuilds, A2A would come up with a payment option like that, you should consider, but a new developing studio?

No way.

I would certainly be willing to pay $5.00 for a month to try out any addon I am interested in purchasing to see if I actually like it or not. That would have saved me tons of money through my years of

  • I will never call PMDG overpriced again. 🤐

  • There is something a little off-putting, for lack of a better word, to be asked to pay upfront for a product(s) that I cannot enjoy, not even in early access, that are not even likely developed yet. I

He did not say that he was going to pay the 150 Euros up front. Maybe he will be interested enough to pay 6 Euros to check the -500 out, and then wait for another variant to be released before considering the entire package?

No. I am not. As that 'complete package' isn't even released yet I am patiently watching and waiting..?

There is something a little off-putting, for lack of a better word, to be asked to pay upfront for a product(s) that I cannot enjoy, not even in early access, that are not even likely developed yet. I am quite unimpressed by such a strategy and consequently would avoid purchasing.  In doing so I would be paying for a promise that may or may not come through. It is not even that I do not trust the developer, but the first release was kind of lackluster, they are relatively new on the scene, and we may have MSFS2028 before they can finish all those variants to a high-fidelity level. This is a permanent hard pass for me.

I can't help but call out on the double standard here though... Fenix released on the promise of releasing new engine variants and sharklets. PMDG released on a multitude of promises. FSS released on the promise of a variety of items for their 727 and E-Jets. TFDI released on the promise of releasing a number of things. I could go on and on. Some of these developers delivered, others are inthe progress of doing so. Two of the 4 developers I mentioned are new to the scene might I add.

I understand sure don't pay for promises, but permanently closing off CSS for doing the same practices as a variety of other developers seems a bit hypocritcal to me. Unless I'm to assume you never paid a dime to the aforementioned devs as-well as any other dev in the community that releases aircraft with the promise of post-release features.

I do however, agree the initial release was lackluster but I have to give credit where it's due. The developers are active in discord nearly every day acknowleding most if not all bugs. Posting blog posts update the current state of things and speedily providing bug fixes. Did it have to be this way? no they could've released a more stable product on launch, but at least they're making some efforts to save face and maintaing their product.

This was released a few months back and it was so broken that it was not usable for the first 3+ weeks.

Yeah it was terrible and since then the developers have been releasing updates and bug fixes on average every 2 weeks. Little disengenous to call it a money grab when it's being actively improved on.

They said they would extend subscribers to compensate the terrible state of the release.  They only added 7 days when the product wasn't usable for almost a month.

Well.. that's not entirely true.

For everyone who purchased our aircraft by subscription between 30.05.2025 and 04.06.2025, when there were server issues, your licenses were automatically extended until 05.07.2025.

I took one look at this and I got a strong whiff of something that registered in my olfactory memory...couldn't tell if it was old-timey Ariane/Peter Tishma deceptive marketing or just your run of the mill "pay super-premium price now for super-premium promises to be (maybe) kept later" Brimstone.

I'd be careful with this one.

Price aside, I suggest you watch some video reviews before buying this... most people think it's seriously lacking in several categories.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

I read the description at the website. This phrase in red capital letters caught my attention:  THIS LICENSE GRANTS YOU ACCESS TO THE CSS 737 CLASSIC FOREVER.

It's an interesting choice of words. "Forever" is a very, very long time. I'm wondering if that applies to future versions of MSFS as well.

€130? Last time I paid that kind of money was for the PMDG 747 for P3D. Neeeext!

This is a fair comment, but I am still left unimpressed. I also avoided both E-Jets and TFDI, E-Jets as again a lackluster launch from a relatively unknown developer; TFDI because their track record with the 717 in P3D was not so good and I did not have confidence they would pull together a high-fidelity aircraft proportionate to the amount they were charging; and so far I think my assessment has been confirmed.

Fenix and PMDG are a little different as they both delivered a high-quality, high-fidelity addon at a reasonable price, a price in line with what I expect based on historical pricing. In both cases, had they not fulfilled any of their promises it would have been a good value for the money. This developer is asking me to pay over 4 times the cost of the A320 for variants and options that are nowhere in sight and could be many months or even years off. They have no proven track record, no history to judge on, only a rather poor launch of their first product -- compare that to the initial launch of the Fenix in May 2022.  And yes the Fenix was not there, it had a lot that needed to be worked out but to me it was worth the 50 dollars even in that state and I am flabbergasted as to how much Fenix has added to that aircraft free of charge in the 3 years since it launched; compared to PMDG that will need to charge us a cup of coffee to bring their 737 into 2024 and add features that really should have been there already -- but this is a digression.

Had they charged 50 dollars for the 500 I would have taken a good hard look and maybe picked it up; but I would never pay 200 dollars for aircraft that are nowhere in sight; and I would not even want them all. The pricing model is strange on top of the rather poor launch, I just can't see me going for this.

MSFS 2024. Primary Planes: Black Square TBM850, Duke, Baron, Caravan; A2A Comanche; FSReborn Phenom; Fexix A321; PMDG 737-7, 777: Utilities: Active Sky (Passive Mode); BATC, FSLTL.

I am glad they put winglets on it.  I may bite once the 300 and 400 are done and it goes gets a few more updates.  It will depend on how well it tracks with the community.

These are fair views, hopefully if CSS delivers you’ll give them another chance or perhaps try the monthly or annual rentals.
