Sim Update 5 [1.7.27.0] Now Available | MSFS 2024

Featured Replies

It isn't about complaining or even giving feedback (MS likely doesn't read here or at least very often), it is about looking for commonalities and possible solutions.  At the very least, what changed, and can I do something to improve it?

As a guy who spends every six months in Level D sims, the weather  in 2024 is miles better than how it looks in a real sim.  First off there is no live weather in a real sim, so it’s all presets.

Having read a number of pages on this post, I often get the impression some people on Avsim are more interested in complaining for the sake of complaining.  I just did 4 flights since SU5 came ou

I never do that.  Just install it.

One cool thing I immediately noticed that has been fixed in SU5 is that there are now red blinking obstruction lights.  The floating yellow lights over wind turbines had also been fixed and replaced with red blinking obstruction lights.  Other obstructions had red solid lights depending on height which I believe was all done to specifications as in real life.  So much better for night flying!

I only saw this at one place in the US so I have not checked other areas but this was a welcome and undocumented change since I had reported the floating yellow lights multiple sim updates before.

I noticed that too, found this posted on the official forums:

Yes, I can confirm that my latest update finally got to the sim

Hi @everyone. I hope you like Sim Update 5. Because somehow it wasn’t mentioned in the change log, I just wanted to let you know that my vertical Obstacles package was updated with SU5. Most important changes:

  • finally working long distance obstacle lights
  • reworked model of wind turbine that now includes lights and rotates toward the wind
  • upgraded wind turbines placement code
  • added base structures for offshore wind turbines
  • and most likely more bug fixes and upgrades that I don’t remember (I finished that update almost year ago) This basically concludes my work for the vanilla sim. At least for now. But you can expect updated/new add-on as I’m working on them right now Happy flying!"

Just getting into this thread so, if this is posted somewhere else, please point it out.

Wherever my departure is from, it says UNKN for the weather. ??

I saw that today too, for the first time.

Remember that not everyone is cut from the same cloth—there are those who think everything is wonderful from day one, and then there’s the rest of us mere mortals.

Or, there are those who maintain a relatively optimistic attitude and feel gratitude for positive things in their lives (like this amazing sim), and those who love to sing in harmony with the echoes of their own whines, moans and unsatisfied expectations. 😉

SU4 never looked this focussed and realistic to me. SU5 is the best service update so far for 2024 from my perspective 😎

(Image may not look great due to compression but looks amazing in the sim)

I only have a RTX 3080, with most settings at 'High' and non at Ultra.

The sim is butter smooth, with FPS locked at 40 and Lossless Scaling providing frame gen.

Hi @SayAgain,

For clarification, there should have been no changes to landing gear LOD culling of AI aircraft between SU4 and SU5. This was adjusted in a previous Sim Update (again, I think it was SU4, but I'm not 100% sure about that and it might have been an earlier SU).

The intro video was made at least two years ago using a pre-release WIP build of MSFS 2024 and does not reflect the current release state, so any footage you see in that video is not applicable to the current version of the sim. If you're seeing overly aggressive LOD culling for landing gear on any first-party stock aircraft while in a flight session in SU5, please let us know and be sure to mention which specific aircraft type(s) you're seeing this with.

Thanks,

SeedyL, MSFS Community Manager

Two years ago and today, the problem has not been addressed.  I went back to using SU5 Default AI Traffic and after doing a large update specific to air traffic aircraft (4.71GB):

spacer.png

The culling of aircraft landing gear still persists just as it did "pre-release" build:

and

spacer.png

I had reported this issue on the official forums also along with many others:

https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/too-strict-lod-rule-on-aircraft-landing-gears-culling-of-aircrafts-gear/709715/257?u=robainscough

So consider this "letting you know" ... again, for the 3rd or 4th time 😉

FSX, P3D, XP12, MSFS 2020 doesn't have this culling of landing gear issue.  I understand you want to reduce MSFS 2024 VRAM usage and increase performance, but at the cost of visual fidelity when it's not required for those of us with enough computational hardware.

I can only assume, this aggressive culling of objects is born out of console users complaining (in envy) that PC version has better visuals?!  I'm hoping that is NOT case and rational minds persist in MS/Asobo development group ... if so, please pass along to your PM that I/we request (5th time around) a graphics option that allows PC users to manage the culling and we'll accept whatever FPS penalty that comes with ... we're adults, we can handle the lower FPS (well some of us anyway) 😉

OR, since it isn't happening to everyone, it might be a server issue and not a deliberate downgrade.

Has the free flight startup behavior changed? Since the SU5 update, I no longer see the Shift+C overlay, and I now have to right click with my mouse and then do the Shift+C to get to the flight deck.

Just curious.

Guys, my third world internet is so crappy that I still haven't downloaded Asobo's scenery downgrade yet 😞

Shift+C gets me into the PMDG 737 cockpit in exactly the same way that it did in SU4.

MSFS 2020 very definitely DID have the landing gear culling issue when I last used it in December 2025. I cannot imagine that anything has changed there.

And? Why are people afraid to use their PCs

Based on what? your temperatures? No OS-based software can cause physical damage to a CPU, the CPU will protect itself if it determines that.

Well, there’s no reason that at 30,000 ft my CPU should be pegged at 100% and my fans going crazy. It’s like running a car engine at high RPM while parked for no reason. It won’t instantly damage anything, but it’s unnecessary heat and strain with no benefit.

Did we ever get back the High Res textures that the Google maps author noticed went AWOL? I remember Seb mentioning it in a Q&A saying something along the lines of "that shouldn't have happened", but I don't recall saying anything about it being fixed. That could explain the poor texture crispness, it's definitely not what it used to be anyway.

Found the stream, so basically nothings been fixed so that will explain the poor visuals still.

Have to agree. SU4 was a step back for me but after SU5, MSFS is the best it has ever looked. Crisp and sharp everywhere and extremely smooth. Couldn't be happier.
