Downloaded Vs Streamed

Featured Replies

I assumed that downloaded was the way to go. Then when a complex aircraft (like the PMDG 737 or iniBuilds L1011) had an update, I dutifully downloaded and installed it. And then there would be problems. I went to streaming everything that was purchased from the MS Marketplace and it's much better for me.

Are there still streaming issues? Sure. On a Saturday night, there are delays on initial start where I'll wait 2-3 mins before clicking the Ready to Fly button as textures and objects load, but I've got complex aircraft, GSX, and both FSLTL and AIG.

  • I'll give you an honest answer. I've tried both. I figured that downloaded would be faster loading and running. I was wrong. Streaming was MUCH faster loading and stutter-free. YMMV.

  • I haven't actually noticed any difference

Then frankly a flightsim not running is going to be the least of our problems.

I get better performance with it downloaded. That’s one of the steps I did to improve the performance of the 220 tbh.

I went down the downloading option, but now 100% streamed. Less hard disk space and less wasting time on updates = more flying. :)

Have no problem downloading into pc , what you are going to do when streaming doesn't work? As long as your network works there might not be problems but what happens when it doesn't?

I see no difference in performance between streamed MP assets and downloaded. None. People who are downloading to "protect" themselves from an internet or server outage are kidding themselves.

Really doesn't make a difference. whether network is working or not, if it's down, can't connect to 2024. If it's working and MS servers are down, still can't connect. Can't play 2024 in offline mode.

Well you wont be able to load the sim at all if your internet is down.

thin client streaming model exist to make it accommodating for consoles and lower tier PC’s. Look at all the issues PS5 players are having right now trying to load in aircraft models

If streaming wasn't better it wouldn't exist.

The more you download, the longer the sim will take to start up as it has to verify all of those local files. Updates can also be an issue, especially if they are hot off the press... you may need to disable and then re-enable the addon in order to get the update to properly install. I've never bothered with downloading and never had any issues that I could point toward streaming as the root cause. I just enjoy all the extra space I have compared to 2020, especially now that storage prices have gone through the roof!

I prefer as much as possible to be downloaded on my PC. If there are intermittent connection problems, guess who is going to suffer from them first? I have seen YouTube videos that show fuzzy runway textures clearing right before my eyes when the plane is landing. That kind of BS never happens on my PC.

I was a rabid anti-streamer in the 2020 days. Now, I prefer to buy direct from developers when possible, not necessarily for the download but for quicker updates and to support them etc etc. But for extra default aircraft, most scenery and marketplace exclusive aircraft, I am more than happy to stream. I like that I can choose the one I want from the start and it becomes the default, I like saving disc space, I like them not having to load when MSFS does and I like being able to disable and enable them on a whim without having to uninstall. There is no disadvantage to streaming at all, in my experience.

Downloading MSFS 2024 to your harddrive is like going to Gamestop and asking for a physical copy of MSFS.

It ain't right if you don't feel it under your fingertips 👍

Agree.

I remember when we used to have an annual update. if we're lucky

Good times

So you don't have and problems with the fact that you have to manually update EVERYTHING you download ? 🤔
