Sim Update 7 Beta is available

Bug fixing is good but I am struck by how long it has been since there were new features in the su updates…sigh. How about weather improvements, runway lighting improvements? No? Not until SU1099? And even then maybe because asobo is “still looking into it”? Oh, okay…business as usual. Does anyone here remember the days when SU updates meant significant feature improvements or additions?

Let me see if I’ve got this right: MS/Asobo have delivered a flight sim that single-handedly destroyed the previous Serious Simmers flight sim in a matter of months. The global scenery is so good that

  • I agree 100% with you. Every time a SU is released the same old tiresome complainers jump in the thread and go off course with the same old complaints and how XP is the one to return to. They contribu

Well - let's face it, the SU7 with the METAR update happened because a very small but extremley loud VATSIM minority were crying their eyes out because FS2020 METARs didn't completely match real-world

What's up with wheels and prop spinning being blurred ??, that's been a issue since release.

Jorg has been crystal clear there focus is on bug fixes not new features. I think it’s a subtle way of saying that all new feature development will be for the next iteration of MSFS. So I surmise we should not expect any significant new features for 2024.

TLOD reduction that was introduced in SU6 should be at the top of the fix list but we all know it wont be.

agree. my wheels are blurred (tho I mostly start & finish in air😁so don't see them at all)

and, out of my mute protest, I will go back to good old reliable wheel crisp clean X-plane

🤣

people are amazing these days

After the botched launch (which to their credit they acknowledged), Jorg indicated the first few SU would be about bug fixing. No issues - That was the right call. But after 6 (soon 7) sim updates, I reckon its time to actually start putting some meat on the bone and adding features, improving performance or expanding the sim.

I realize that we may see further features as SU7 progresses, but this initial list is really just.... meh.... Asobo if you're out of ideas about what to do next, go read the wishlist thread on your forums.

Landing gear culling is a bug though

And not just that, it's also the visibility of distant aircraft. They don't even need to be that far to completely disappear. If you're on vatsim and a controller asks you to report traffic in sight, you can't, because the sim doesn't even render aircraft that should easily be visible.

This makes sense...perhaps there is behind the scenes work for the next version. Though I wonder when that is to be anticipated? Another couple of years? What do you all think?

He said that quite sometime ago. Over the past year during interviews and dev streams, the messaging is that they are only focused on bug fixes and improving Career Mode. Plus they are also launching the National Championship Air Races releasing next month. That may not appeal to the hardcore simmer, but it will to a lot of console users. I believe a lot of development will continue around things to engage new gamers to keep growing their market. For example, Stranger Things was a gamble to draw in new gamers and casual players. But for me it was a wasted effort, and I would much rather have seen resources allocated elsewhere.

For the traditional simmer, I hope we get some new features, but I seriously doubt it. They haven’t alluded to any new features in the pipeline. Maybe they are keeping some plans secret, but that seems highly unlikely, especially after seeing what’s in SU7, the most recent interview, and their most recent actions.

I think you're right, the rate of new feature introductions has dramatically slowed and I suspect we're not going to see any significant platform/performance improvements in this iteration of the game. Perhaps 2028 (or whatever comes next) will bring bigger changes.
