Sim Update 7 Beta is available

Asobo don't understand flight sims or flight simmers.

It's quite noticable that they talk about how the devs and designer have gained real world flight experience - which leads to design decisions like unskippable walk around because that's how real world aviation work.

But there never seems to be anything about the devs and designers looking at classic and current sims and their communities and trying to understand what they are looking for.

Instead there seems to be a desire to bring in gamification models from other genres and define how MSFS should be used rather than understanding how flight sims work and the inherrent openess that defines the genre.

It's fine to offer a a career framework for people who want it, but putting a masssive emphasis on a single, rigid, one size fits all model never was going to work.

Let me see if I’ve got this right: MS/Asobo have delivered a flight sim that single-handedly destroyed the previous Serious Simmers flight sim in a matter of months. The global scenery is so good that

Well - let's face it, the SU7 with the METAR update happened because a very small but extremley loud VATSIM minority were crying their eyes out because FS2020 METARs didn't completely match real-world

Almost every update its mostly just aircraft fixes. No new core things added. If you look at the wishlist stuff almost nothing gets added

yet that WT 787 the jetty takes off the pitot tubes at L1 everytime its docked.

That bug is 6 years old and never getting fixed.

And not just that, it's also the visibility of distant aircraft. They don't even need to be that far to completely disappear. If you're on vatsim and a controller asks you to report traffic in sight, you can't, because the sim doesn't even render aircraft that should easily be visible.

Yes, I remember that you used to be able to see the aircraft and the navigation lights.

Now the aircraft are invisible unless it's quite close. Sometimes you see a contrail but no aircraft at the end of it.

Guys, we have to understand one thing: we can complain about this or that bug here or anywhere else all day, every day, but unless there’s a highly upvoted thread about it on their own Forum, they simply won’t pay attention to it. We need to do a better job of organizing around the main issues we want to see fixed or improved.

I have the Global Shipping 24 addon installed. It is not bad, but nowhere near as good or extensive as GAIST.

just use the 2024 live ship traffic with GAIST, that's what I do, look great.

A large percentage of those fields should be green, not brown. I appreciate that it may be realistic right now, but that is not what I am looking for.

If you don't want it to look realistic, then to don't fly at this time of year.

I remember the description of a French payware airport somewhere that stated "fixes for blurred out areas of the base photoscenery"

Depends on why it's blurry, Microsoft/Bing may have no choice, there's a lot of censored areas in France because of military bases, nuclear power plants or other spots the French government considereds a sensitive area.

Unfortunately it's sapping to see just those kind of issues being ignored by Asobo/MS, presumably at least in part because they don't fit the design they have for MSFS and consequently where they want to spend their resources.

They really need to get onto it because some other sims are coming out with some impressive updates. Updates that simmers care about.

That's great, I'm hoping the folks complaining about the same thing ad nauseam make the switch to other sims!

Every thread about a new beta SU that should discuss the experience folks are having with that SU just devolves into "THE THING I WANT CHANGED ISN'T BEING ADDRESSED IT'S ALL XBOX'S FAULT THE GAMERS ARE RUINING IT FOR EVERYONE!" (I'm not referring to your post, just calling out the trajectory that these topics always take... although I will disagree with your short list of improvements in 2024 vs 2020)

Meanwhile, I'm sure the "gamers" will love the additions to the pneumatic & ECS system (one of the many SDK additions that will not make its way into 2020). Are Asobo ignoring certain complaints about weather and LOD issues? Absolutely! But I'm going to assume it's because addressing those complaints is not as simple as people wish they would be. I too hope they are addressed, but I'm not going to try and dictate how Asobo prioritizes fixes and features.

With SU7, these first patch notes seem to address a lot of developer concerns. Which is great, because while everyone in this topic is complaining about weather and gears, aircraft developers are getting complaints ad nauseam related to systems that don't work as intended, and these SDK additions will help those devs address those issues.

We literally just got an update that added apron lighting to default airports. Something that's been requested for a while but we completely forget that and spew hyperbole saying MSobo doesn't care and won't do anything. I remember people in this very thread who said Asobo would never work on weather radar too.

Saying certain improvements won't come because the sim is going through "gamification" is a load of nonsense too. Am I the only one who read this beta's patch notes? There's a ton happening under the hood that'll allow devs to make even more realistic add-ons. Career mode is not dictating everything that happens in the sim. Free flight is more free than ever.

The guy with the pc sales spreadsheet is long out the door.

Yea, I think you’re correct. PC users, who mind you were the Genesis for flight sim have been relegated to peasant status. Dumbed down LOD -and every other thing to appease console usage. Jorg and Asobo will never admit it but PC users are no longer a priority with MS as a whole. If it can’t look good or run on console, they will never implement it in MSFS2024. In the years ahead, Xplane may be where most PC users wind up going.

as ive said numerous times before...

15 years ago or so matt davies was the first "simmer" to activily use Twitch, while Frugal was doing youtube and making a good go of it.

I remember sitting work on a sunday night shift watching Matt Davies highlighting there was more gamers playing farming sim than there were simmers playing fs9 and xplane combined on twitch.

Sure it was back in 2010, but it showed the niche "somewhat Thifty market of simmers" verses the "more lucratiive and bigger base" of gamers simmers, again ps3 ands ps4 - Its no different today.

us older simmers have all spend our cash on buying ms20 and ms24, and that horse can no longer be flagged much more... That ship sailed long ago.

However the gamers on Xbox and ps5. Every year a new round of teenagers are there for them to sell the console version of ms24 too. Fresh meat, More sales.

nothing has changed. The simmer market is just too niche and cant make as much as gaming market.

As proved by Matt Davies - 15 plus years ago.

Rest in Peace MD

Maybe we need more people to keep this thread alive and vote.

Here we go the back up brigade has arrived. Don't you dare criticise and it's always "people join beta and complain".

Listen mate, do you know how many betas we've had for them to fix things.

if you check my posts I'm actually a big supporter of MSFS and where it's SUPPOSED to be headed, but it's not heading anywhere at the moment.

I agree 100% with you. Every time a SU is released the same old tiresome complainers jump in the thread and go off course with the same old complaints and how XP is the one to return to. They contribute nothing to the discussion of the latest SU release. Everyone who has installed and play 2024 for a while is well aware of the bugs and shortcomings and it's very tiresome to keep hearing the same complainers, complain every time a new SU is released.

Amen.

I think a few people around here should take a break because they're holding on too tight.
