December 31, 201411 yr Just a config question, are you guys using the DXT5 compression or the 32 Bit? And for the high level clouds in Rex4 what resolution and texture compression? Thx in advance. Those screens are fantastic!

December 31, 201411 yr Just a config question, are you guys using the DXT5 compression or the 32 Bit? I use 32-bit for both high and low level. Ryan
December 31, 201411 yr Just got this, and OMG this is simply the best visual bang for the buck you can get. Love these clouds! Computer Specs: i5-4690K 3.5 GHz overclocked to 4.0GHz / MSI GTX 960 4GB Video Card / 16GB Kingston HyperX Fury 1866MHz DDR3 System RAM / MSI Z97-G45 Motherboard / Crucial MX200 500GB mSATA SSD
December 31, 201411 yr Just a config question, are you guys using the DXT5 compression or the 32 Bit? I initially set to 32 bit based on the warning in the GUI but ended up settling on DXT5, as I can't see a major difference from 32 bit in the cloud sets, and and it seems to perform better in dense overcast (weather generated through Opus). Tim or Reed, could you confirm what type of color anomalies that may arise...or maybe ignorance is bliss I can't wait to get my new system components though so I can really turn up the eye candy...
December 31, 201411 yr Cmon Gareth how can any company involved in Flightsim keep working for free. they have just released a massive free update to Rex Essential making it a completely different weather engine and also including updated water textures for Prepar3d users.all these man hours for absolutely nothing for existing users. I was very happy to pay £6.00 for 256 new cloud textures and which also includes any support i need, hardly exhorbitant i think you would agree. as for being a Fan-Boy..yes of course i am. they are the best of all the Weather/cloud companies out there.and i have supported them from the early days.I like there weather program so much i bought it twice. best wishes steve +1 I know that i'm not the only one who doesn't expect people to work for nothing. +1 If you don't want it don't buy it, Sascha Rieger | EVO Developer What is EVO • How to get Evo 2016 • FS9 Evolution Forum
December 31, 201411 yr This is a Rex direct texture set, all they have added is the option to Lower the resolution of cloud to 512- to 1080. 512 resolution gives it a softer look over 1080, same applies in Rex direct ie if you set your upper cloud layer to 4096 and set your lower cloud to 1080 it will give the appearance of soft lower clouds. The texture set you have been looking at has been set at 512 resolution. It has mainly been designed for P3d as the clouds in P3d are crappie & full of issues regarding spinning & rotation. Better off with Rex direct with all its features and this resolution setting will no doubt be available as an update for Rex direct anytime soon anyway.

As has been stated by P3D customers, the new soft clouds are a great value. MSFS

December 31, 201411 yr Ho-hum, just another way for REX to milk simmers. I bought REX 4. Then Overdrive. Then Texture Direct. Now they want me to buy Soft Clouds? FSX has been around for what, eight years, but it's taken until now for REX to produce "volumetric" clouds? P3D has them out of the box, and the low-lying fog effects are sublime. I'm not buying Soft Clouds even if it is just $10. I use OPUS weather engine because it is far superior to anything REX has. I detest all the REX UI's too - way too overblown for what should be a simple selection dialog. They're very slick-looking but leave the average user bewildered.
December 31, 201411 yr I bought REX 4. Then Overdrive. Then Texture Direct. Now they want me to buy Soft Clouds? what do you mean you bought REX 4 then Overdrive then texture Direct??? REX 4 and texture Direct are one and the same thing , part of the REX 4 series of Products and Overdrive IS a Texture update to REX essential.you didn't buy 3 products you bought 2.and P3D doesn't have Volumetric clouds out of the box ,Only Fog.seems to me you haven't got a clue what you are talking about.and have come into this thread to start a flame and noone is forcing you to buy REX soft clouds.you'll be the one missing out on the best clouds for Prepar3d .don't take my word for it ,check out the screen shots steve REX SKYFORCE 3D steve howlett

January 1, 201511 yr I hummed and hawed over buying this reading this thread as I already have TD. I decided to make the purchase and am glad I did so. I did a flight yesterday from CYQT-CYAG at 14,000 feet in the razbam metroliner and spent an amazing hour ducking in and out of the new clouds...The immersion was amazing! I'm certainly happy with my purchase.
