What's going on with P3D

a BIG +1 -

There are some members of this "community" who have the mistaken belief that because they spent their $$ on the product, that LM's corporate world revolves around "them". If our entire community went away, it would be a negligible blip in the LM radar.

We are very lucky right now, voicing helpful opinions are a good thing but the " I paid my $xx and I DEMAND......" has got to go.

Exactly. Prepar3D's development will be determined by the requirements of Lockheed Martin's commercial customers. Those enthusiasts in these forums will get simply what they are given - like it it or not

Glad to hear a few with a perspective on threads such as this which is not "run of the mill" B)

I wonder how the engine in P3D compares to newer engines like Outerra

I want, I want, I want.....

I want to help, teach & mentor youth, (as I'm doing at the moment with our 'Young Falcons' project). The youth are the future of flight as well as for our software. We need more of them interested in our hobby.

Do we need ..

60 FPS in all views, 64bit, monster PC's, DX12, etc? Of course not..

We need more immersion! We need software that runs on 'normal' PC's so that everyone can run the software on basic PC's. We need to show that this hobby of ours does not have to rip our wallets for all to enjoy.

Its hard to get immersion when, you have to stop, save, and restart p3d several times in the course of a flight from point A to B, simply to avoid an OOM. You want immersion, we need a new sim.

Intel i7 10700K | Asus Maximus XII Hero | Asus TUF RTX 3090 | 32GB HyperX Fury 3200 DDR4 | 1TB Samsung M.2 (W11) | 2TB Samsung M.2 (MSFS2020) | Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280mm AIO | 43" Samsung Q90B | 27" Asus Monitor

That is why we use FS2004 on our PC's for the Young Falcons! It allows us to use freeware scenery for our area & suitable aircraft that are not available elseware. But, I digress..

Interesting to see the 'demands' appearing here, just as I saw them on the FSX sites..

Kind sir, P3D is not being sold as a mass market product, nor was ESP.

P3D is pretty much a niche product, sold 'not for entertainment'.

As we all know, these products ARE stand-alone products, enhanced by add-on developers &, with the right hardware, sold by firms such as Red Bird, as fully fledged simulators.. Frasca, as well, does a sim, FCC licensed, using P3D!

Uh, yes, that was the idea I tried to convey. And that I wonder why people expect it to be handled like an end-user product, even when the licensing says it is clearly not.

Oops, sorry. I misunderstood you. Yup, people are expecting a consumer type product, & moaning that it is only on v2.5!

Moaning comes when folks are expecting the same old drill from LM as with MS... B)

I believe you're right, though my question was w/ regard to 'I wonder how the engine in P3D compares to newer engines like Outerra in terms of accessing hardware better, efficiency, utilizing the most modern graphics APIs and so forth.'

Hopelessly limited?

Yes Ron, the 32-bit VAS is hopelessly limited, which was the only point being made.  There may be workarounds heretofore unmanifested in P3D, and if there are, I would have to assume this has to do with the idea their commercial users don't run into this hopeless limit, hence LM has not been motivated to resolve this issue which is apparent for all users who make longer flights in complex aircraft.

Why not just enjoy what we have right now and happily wait for what comes next from LM? Sorry, just saying...

Yeah. Some people seem to feel enjoyment from moaning. I did forget that. Sorry. ;-)

For those who take long flights in complex a/c and hand fly it the whole way - I sympathize. For those who set it on AP and go to bed and complain about OOM in the morning - sorry, I really have to laugh. Just take off and shut down and go to bed. In the AM, start it up and set up for approach.

But remember - first and foremost that P3D is NOT an entertainment title, you would be hard pressed to find a legitimate reason to train for a long transoceanic flight using P3D. Training in utter boredom watching gauges for 4 hours , ok I'll give you that.

True, there are some instances when even a short flight form LAX to SBP will OOM - now those instances really have to be addressed as they WOULD interfere with training scenarios.

Really, I fly all over the world in P3D using aircraft of different complexities and I *rarely* have an OOM, even with settings at or near max. So IMHO, it's really a non issue. I just fly and enjoy the truly remarkable experience.

64-bit is in the plans, but Outerra is so efficient it's doing fine with 32-bit anyway.
