September 28, 201510 yr I'm not fascinated by the price increase. Seems like they optimized 2.5 a little, added a few features (minor), and reduced VAS consumption. $60/$200 for that? Hmm Same here. Actually [WARNING: Heresy Alert], I've been spending time with FSX:SE while recovering from an excessive bout of wrestling with P3D SLI issues. Enjoying the simplicity and the relaxed atmosphere. I'll keep an eye on 3.0 but I won't be jumping in on day one. Alan Ampolsk"Ah, Paula, they are firing at me!"-- Saint-Exupery
September 28, 201510 yr To the beta testers...can we increase LOD? Now that we have a great improvement in VAS, it would be great to fly through the mountains with more detail... PC: AMD 9850X3D, RAM 64GB, Geforce GTX 5090 (32GB), MSFS 2020, MSFS 2024, Pimax Super 50PPD, Quest 3

Hmm Seems to me the most important improvement for some is the improved VAS usage, which doesn't affect me at all, since I don't have that problem. Other than that, Avatars, ATC windows, etc, stuff that I would probably never use more than once, doesn't seem worth having to buy and reinstall everything. I think the difficult thing for LM, is that 2.5 runs pretty well for most people, so upgrading to 3.0 is like trading last years iPhone for this years. They basically do the same thing.
September 29, 201510 yr No 64bit version ? hummm. Well, I guess got to keep waiting. Like someone else said... why buy a new sim, and reinstall over $3,000 of software which may or may not work? VAS my friend VAS, is a BIG issue. The idea of going to a new sim is to enjoy the improvements, not to say we have P3D V3 , but then we have to reduce the sliders until most detail disappears, in order to be able to fly.

It also appears that they fixed a bunch of issues related to SLI. Too bad I have to buy a "new" sim to get those fixes.. September 29, 201510 yr I like the fact that VAS is an improvement... What about water? Is it animated from an altitude greater than 5000 feet (without the sun reflection? ..currently if there is sun light you can see water animation)? This was a step back from FSX. any ideas? September 29, 201510 yr I fell asleep reading that fix log....its the mother of all patch logs... ...which I gotta say, the big features may not be there in Big Lights, but if the VAS management really shines, that alone is worth the price of admission...and not having to wait for 64bit to boot! I definatley would appreciate some tech insite into the effort to produce some of these key patches. I'd bet that some may appear simple on the surface but probably required redesign of whole sections. I am sure the repurchase is merited on that basis, and that's not a bad thing.
September 29, 201510 yr Well I guess ORBX HD trees goes into the recycle bin then. Probably looks like garbage compared to Speedtrees anyways.. Steve McNitt
September 29, 201510 yr I guess there's one reason I would upgrade. EVer since ver2.5 I've had to run my texture resolution slider at 1m. Anything more defined and I get bad stutters. Pre 2.5 it was fine... but been this way since 2.5. If that were fixed I might upgrade. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
September 29, 201510 yr Can't wait! Could any of the beta testers speak to any of the performance optimizations or graphics / lighting tweaks?
September 29, 201510 yr Well I guess ORBX HD trees goes into the recycle bin then. Probably looks like garbage compared to Speedtrees anyways.. Can we buy Speedtree and install it for all areas? Is that like an add on? How does that work? I have never used simdirector...that is in "mission" mode? what about regular flying? would speedtree not work?' I am salivating at the thought of animated trees. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
September 29, 201510 yr Commercial Member Can we buy Speedtree and install it for all areas? Is that like an add on? How does that work? Speedtree is a product that is now being used by Prepar3D to render all of it's trees. Ed Wilson Mindstar AviationMy Playland - I69
September 29, 201510 yr Two things that don't neccessarily jump out but are key are: the AutoDesk UI....and Occulus support in the core. Obviously in the virtual reality world, you would need a UI interface that is suited. The fact that the new UI is now themebased and based on Autodesk really emphacizes LM support for Occulus/Virtual Reality. Please someone post some shots of the new UI, and transparent ATC....
