I´m with you on that, I´m really wanting to see the new technology.

The number of screenshots presented up to this point has been pretty disappointing with release only about a week or so away. I'm frankly surprised by it...

I understand where you guys are coming from, but I tend to disagree if one considers these points. FSX Steam Edition is the most successful Flight Simulator ever on Steam. More sales in a few months

To be honest, I´m really disappointed with the lack of information about the product.

Compared to what? The P3D release previews? The X-Plane previews?

Those are non-existent. Meanwhile DTG has held multiple interview on youtube, Reddit AMA's, started a thread here, has attended multiple gaming events with preview build, shown us screenshots, a video, etc. This community is the proverbial "if you give a mouse a cookie" story. Have patience and I am sure more will come.

Let me guess.... you want 64bit.

I am comparing with other products, not only simulators. When the product is about to release, is common to see lots of infos (including visuals) advertising that product.

I know they did some advertising, but in this final week (or weeks, maybe) I´m missing more pictures, infos etc.

:Sigh:  :t0152:

Our community is really quite demanding. Patience is a virtue! Soon.. all will be released, & then the moaning will start!

He has a point though. Release of DTG Flight School is imminent, so people want to see plenty of screenshots.

I agree it is a bit strange from a marketing point of view not to 'feed' more information/screenshots close to release in comparison to other products. Its not to say there is some negative reason behind this but I would like to see this product succeed the best it can and marketing is a big part of that. What might seem like a lack of a few screenshots and impatience on our behalf could mean less pre-orders/sales due to a lack of awareness by the market that the product exists (not just the sim market by the way). Even channels on youtube such as frooglesim tend to cover newly released information/screenshots in their weekly news videos. The point being that there is a cascade effect of information leading to essentially free promotion and this usually results in more sales. If you don't put much info out there to begin with, no matter how great your product is (especially if its niche), then you can't expect big sales to happen.

Dovetail has one of the worst web sites I've ever seen. When I first opened their page I thought for a moment I clicked the wrong link, as it looks more like a solicitors or estate agents site. And info is very much lacking for Flight School on there (and their Facebook ect unless I'm missing something, which seems to be all train related) truly awful.

I did pre order out of interest, but I'm glad Steam offers a refund option now.

Well, maybe it is because we are talking about a 15 bucks game, aimed at a rather small user group. It's not an AAA title.
And I would be surprised if Dovetail threw a lot of money (=manpower) into this. The website looks like a one man's one day job to me. Summing up the aswers in the Dovetail Q&A thread it's like, yeah, we're looking into it, we want to, maybe, we'd like to, certainly it would be great to have, not at the moment etc. etc. They have a lot of unfinished business...but they have bold release dates. My guess is that at least the release of Dovetail's Flightschool will only be a side-event because the product itself is not exciting at all. Things might change for D's Flightsim - but I doubt it. A few month of developement on a full blown flightsim? Heck, that's no time at all.

No hard feelings - trying to be realistic (besides having no intentions at all of changing my current sim).

well that is also my feeling !

it look like everything is rushed out of the door asap !!

Tin foil hat time, what if....

After a few of us posted on the weird colours in the recent screen grabs and demo video, it struck a chord.

This could mean two things.

Option 1:

They've rewritten the colour section in the engine to make the sim look natural. This can be more effort than it sounds, if the sim was mixing colours with RGB (fast - Red to Blue skies become purple, lower the red for daytime and we get cyan (blue + green). To rebuild that into a natural visible colour spectrum would take a little time to craft, worse, it could have a performance impact. This would have to go out to the beta testers and if everything checks out, they would have to rebuild ALL the promotional material they were due to release.

Option 2:

They're too far along to alter the rendering engine and to release more screen shots or videos might just bring more of the same complaints / questions.

From my point of view, it's fingers crossed for option 1.

1: They outbid a ton of companies, including an alliance of Aerosoft/PMDG for the rights to MSFS, so I wouldnt go as far as to say that they havent thrown a ton of money at it and the chances of them not continuing to put a ton of money into it are slim.

2: They have been developing it for over a year now. Its only been a few months since they announced details to us. But I will admit that things do seem a little rushed to hit a deadline rather than expectations. I wouldn't be surprised if they realign their dates a tad bit (considering the DA-42 is coming at a later date)

For the record, we do get fairly frequent updates and previews for X-Plane interim versions with the developer blog posts. Last update was April 17, just two days ago. Mostly text info, but occasionally we get some images of work in progress (scroll down for new auto-gen preview):

It would be nice to see that level of detail from DTG, but they probably operate a bit more like conventional game companies than Laminar does (or LM with P3D, for that matter). With DTG, there is probably more input from the marketing department for what gets released and when.

I'm sure there will be something splashy released for Flight School on or near release day. They may also be trying to avoid too much commenting on static screen shots, before people get actual hands-on experience.
