MSFS 2020 is now 3 month old

Featured Replies

3 months buggier...

But while it is buggy, it's still brought me a lot of enjoyment (and a lot of crying myself to sleep over CTDs haha jk)!

I'm excited for what's to come.

By far the best "out of the box" experience for a flight sim.

Two wishes:

1. That when they update (thanks for so often, but...) it doesn't break 3rd party planes. I got addicted to the Carenado Mooney and for two weeks now it is unusable with a CTD every time I try to fly it.

2. Airport editor. PLEASE! I flew to KCRE yesterday and, to my surprise, the taxiway was marked as a runway and the runway was just a big piece of unmarked asphalt. Apparently the field was undergoing construction when the Bing photo was taken. After MANY HOURS of clumsy work I have workable but far from good airport.

But the imagery is spoiling. I can't even look at my former sim now!

Not trying to derail the thread, I just want to say that I also love the Mooney - and it should work now. Just don't mouse click the HDG knob or the Altitude knob. Use scroll wheel on mouse on the HDG knob and use the ALT capture on the autopilot manually instead.

I simply love it.

Its not for airlines yet but I don't feel I need them when the weather and world looks so good. I only fly RY Turbo/TBM/CJ4, 80% RY Turbo.

Like 95% of my flights last night I did UK2000 EGGD to Orbx EGLC at night and could not believe my eyes. Navigraph charts on my iPad and could see all the roads names, and passed them in real time, amazing!

If this is not a VFR flyers dream come true I don't know what is.

I continue to be amazed by it. There are things I don't like (I leave photogrammetry turned off a lot of the time), and definitely some things missing, but like @pmb I've never had so much pleasure from a sim. I keep finding all sorts of little pockets to explore and I'm constantly blown away by the world around me.

A big thank you to Asobo (but a big something else altogether to MS for the whole store thing)

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

I am very happy with MSFS, 3 months and the sim with the bi-weekly updates is getting better and better, sure it was a bit of a bumpy ride but I enjoy it and I enjoy every bump of it!

Great quote.

I remember buying the CD/DVD for FS98/FS2000 and my favourite FS2004 and FSX

it was much simpler in those days you loaded the disc and where very happy with the advancement that came....

Actually we dont know how far we have come.

MSFS2020 and Asobo have created a masterpiece. Yes it has many bugs to squash but it aimed high actually it aimed to the top. So many decsions and good ones lie behind this game that we have been spoiled. The idea is was amazing to have a 3D Earth the best of Photgrammetry or Autogen to have the environment the weather and the vision to start this 10 year hopefully longer journey... For me just to have runways that have elevations to have overcast conditions that remain overcast to have the eye candy we have is a dream and its so easy in our life now to not see how much of an advancement we have. I remember every Friday we drove to the video stoe to see if there was possibly one copy left of the new release and the excitement we had if we managed to get that film the drive home... now we have Netflix where its all available it does not have the same feeling.
its early days.
A few of us here have been around a while. I personally said give Asobo a year to make this sim a place that has the fundamentals right it takes that time. I cant wait to fly a PMDG 747/737 along that curved runway but I know its going to take some time maybe 12 months maybe more but we have a great future ahead of us. We should be happy to go along for the ride. Yes they could have held back the release but for me I am glad we at this point can play and enjoy this incredible world... They have been so open to our feelings to our wishes we must not rush in and grumble at every little part...its so easy now social media etc etc just enjoy the ride like the last post said...

Seasons/ATC/Helicopters/VR are close to my heart but I love the fact Asobo are not rushing. I have a feeling 2021 will be a great year for MSFS.

:)

I am also very impressed by the experience; it feels so much more like I am actually flying! Twice I have abandoned the idea of a flight because of weather and that is something I never did in another sim; and like most of you I have been at this for decades!

I have only flown GA. In fact, in writing this I realized I have not even once loaded a jet in the sim. But I am really, really appreciating the challenge of planning, navigating and flying this way. To be honest, I have no interest in jets right now. When PMDG said it may be another year I, unlike many, just thought that was fine, take a couple of years if you need it. But I do hope some quality GA aircraft at A2A level come out soon.

I knew this simulator would introduce a big change into our hobby, but I was not fully prepared for the paradigm shift it is turning out to be. The sheer volume of freeware, behind which is a lot of enthusiasm, is a sign of this; as is the broadening of the discussion.

MSFS 2024. Primary Planes: Black Square TBM850, Duke, Baron, Caravan; A2A Comanche; FSReborn Phenom; Fexix A321; PMDG 737-7, 777: Utilities: Active Sky (Passive Mode); BATC, FSLTL.

I, like most here, cannot heap enough superlatives (and sometimes expletive's LOL) onto this sim.

I mean...on a whim...and with no sim before this...I decided to plop my Bonanza on a random desert airport in Algeria of all places....routing DAUE to DAUG.....and never thought I'd capture the essence of flying in a desert....its actually quite beautiful at 7000ft (probably not so much at 0 feet on the back of a camel, hehe)....but the point being....guess what the default scenery would look like in previous sims....nothing like this:

It is so exciting to literally have the world at your finger tips...ready to explore anywhere, whenever you desire.

Loving it so far.

Oh...did I mention the sunrise/sunsets are pretty nice too? 😲

I think most of us don't realize very well how lucky we are to finally be able to fly on an NG simulator like MSFS 2020 and all its future potential.I have never taken so much pleasure in flying.None of my flights are alike and that makes all the difference.I look forward to all the news to come.

A big thank you to ASOBO / MS with a special mention to Sebastian with whom I shared some words and I can tell you that he has remarkable kindness and availability.

I particularly like from the team all the actions that are shared transparently every week in the form of news.Even this style of mindset is also Next Gen.

It is especially us sometimes who do not have the level of respect and recognition.

After 3 months, I'm just as bored as the first week.

Funny you say this... yesterday I took off in the Bonanza from Fort Collins to Aspen. When I got to the Rockies, I flew into the clouds and immediately iced up. I made a 180 and went back to KFNL to land. That flight (and fear) was as rewarding as the complete trip to Aspen would have been!

Maybe aviation is not for everybody.. 😉

Bert

What Steve has said several posts back rings true. Everywhere I've flown so far I've not been disappointed. In previous sims the scenery was only as good as you've shelled out for.

The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA

There's not a single day when I don't think about MSFS 2020. This sim has given my life a new purpose. Still patiently waiting for some of the existing bugs to be fixed, and the study level planes from the likes of A2A, Milviz, PMDG etc to b made, but in the meantime I'm having a GREAT time with the default planes, and without mods even. Both VFR and IFR flights are equally enjoyable, although the latter is a bit boring sometimes. Thank you Microsoft and Asobo for bringing me back to civilian flight sims again.

Or more likely he is into blowing stuff up with an mk108 or obsessed with changing the light bulbs in a study level payware airliner, neither of which this sim does well or at all.

What it DOES do well is reproduce the simple joys of VFR GA flight, some will find it boring but this video I posted in another thread earlier is what I spend most of my time doing in game these days and loving it:

Everyday is an adventure exploring and testing new mods. It's been non-stop joy for the past  2 1/2 months.
