Sim Update 3 (1.14.5.0) is now live!

My prediction? If MS don't sack and replace Asobo in the next four months then MSFS 2020 has less than two years to live.

MS will then roll out a new Game called something like Virtual Tourist which will be a dead easy operated Drone to explore the Azure Cloud World.

We were guinea pigs. That's all. It was never about flight simulation. It was about World 2.0

The cynical side of me says that we could have guessed this, when the sim was released without gliders, military fast movers and a helicopter flight model. But man, did they ever put a lot of effort into the scenery!

The more hopeful side of me says that it hasn't been a year yet, and the time to evaluate whether Asobo is in over their heads isn't now, but a year from now. I'm still being patient, treating it as a "Lite" GA sightseeing sim and not a full-on flight sim yet. For me, that won't happen until we have a dedicated helicopter flight model. It still amazes me that they went to all this trouble with the world building, and couldn't manage that.

One thing is clear, they really need to revamp this whole update process. It's maddening how complex and slow it is, and it doesn't seem like it's able to smoothly integrate updates without breaking 3rd party add-ons. They really need a public opt-in beta branch like the betas for X-Plane, so if a new patch has issues you can just choose not to use it and revert back to the last stable version.

This was announced (clarified) as in update 4 early April.  So no surprise on that one

Ok, thanks for that.

Of course, it was first mentioned in one of the live streams as ready for the UK World update...then for Sim update 3 (at least initially)....so there's that.

Boy, I’m glad I haven’t updated yet. I’m going to wait ‘till a “fix the Update” Update is released. Not Using MSFS2020 until then. I’m no guinea pig. 😉

FBW Development branch is already updated. They updated it like not even an hour after this patch went live. It works fine.

Thanks for the update.  I have decided my blank screens only on the FBW A320 must be caused by one of more conflicting mods in the Community Folder.  The basic or default A320 has working screens as do all the other airliners, but, neither of the FBW models.  My last check is with an empty Community Folder with only the FBW A320.  It takes soooooo long to reboot and start up again.

I'm away from home at present, so can't download the new update yet.  I love MSFS for its huge leap forward from earlier sims, and applaud Microsoft and Asobo for a fabulous flight experience which makes GA flights so much more rewarding that they ever were before!  I also really value the ongoing development, the public commitment as evidenced by the regularly updated development roadmaps, and I'm sure that MFSF will become an increasingly polished and complete package over time.  I just wish the naysayers could be much less negative and much more grateful for what we already have.

While I'm disappointed if its true the Garmin fixes have not yet been implemented, if the Working Title mods still work, I can live with that until Microsoft/Asobo get to permanently fix the Garmin shortcomings.  And I'm really pleased to read that the TBM930 mod and the FBW A320 mod have already been updated to work with this latest sim update.

However, as for legacy liveries - why part of a mandatory update??  I suppose for those who have nostalgia for the old sims, its a good idea to make them available, buy surely its not necessary to make them part of an update, which means you then have to delete them afterwards?  I was never a fan of the default liveries in FSX anyway, and as soon as I could, I installed a third party app with real world airlines and schedules.  The same is true for MSFS - the liveries are a little more varied than they were in FSX - but in my personal view, seeing them on poorly-modelled AI aircraft which have real-world call signs is a significant detraction from the immersion experience.  I'm no fan of the 'special' MSFS liveries either, and wish they had also been made an optional installation.

Bring on a third-party traffic app for MSFS!

Bob did the PMS50 GNS mod get updated yet?  Or are you not using that one?  I get a black screen in the Mooney when I enable that mod.

I took that Mod out of the community folder days ago, it was causing long loading times for me. I just use the default 530 and for me it works ok.

My last try worked for me.  Totally empty Community Folder, most recent download of dev (master) (last 15 minutes) added to the Community Folder. Now I have to add back the other mods - one by one - to find the conflict (s).  Like She said "it is worth it"

The HDG Up mode is pretty much all I wanted from the stock G1000 and it's so nice to finally have that without the mod being required.

This is something that has mystified me in all the complaining about the lack of Garmin updates by Asobo. I intend no criticism of you, but I am really curious... Why on earth would you, (or anyone), choose to use the stock G-1000 or 3000 when the WT mods are available? I could understand if they were payware, but they are absolutely free, have no adverse impact on sim performance, and take about 3 seconds to install.

I suppose I understand not wanting to install a mod as they can potentially conflict with something else.

However, the guys at WT are so good at this.   Any problems are quickly snuffed out. It makes this mod a no brainer.
