January 2, 20224 yr Geez I had really hoped this would be fixed when I got up this morning. The lack of a rapid contingency plan for core parts of the sim is frustrating. I’ll have to go remember where to download Rex from and give it a try. Here is a more recent video that nicely sums up the pros and cons of REX Weather Force - pros and cons that everyone who uses RWF is 100% aware of. Again, as long as Live Weather isn't working, REX is a workable alternative. https://youtu.be/eqMUoD2RcqE?t=1511 Most heard phrases in the video.... "Weather just popped in out of nowhere.." I told everyone on the official forums we most likely wouldn't see anything until next week thanks to this happening on a holiday weekend. The banner they put up was just a place holder. Worst case scenario is it doesn't get fixed until the next service update. I hope people are seeing now why this cloud/constantly hacking on software doesn't work. Endless development in real time with no oversight or accountability. I'm not a fan of the cloud and a developer's free will to keep monkeying with the product. Just the same with your disrespectful attitude on the subject and your enthusiasm of REX being a band aide when default weather isn't working, I found myself trying REX again with more findings: The all or nothing approach is pretty bad yet the time adjustment of weather updates holds off some of the pop-in effect (you can go up to 30 minutes). Never mind using the Garmin weather display, the problem is very apparent when you can visually see the weather is all the same for as far out as you can adjust the radar. You see the weather pop in on the radar as you fly along and what's presented out the window is overdone and FSX like. KISM had low clouds today with spotty rain in various parts of the city. Florida is known for rain on one side of town and clear on the other. Default weather pics this up perfectly. You rarely see a full overcast but days like today we have an overcast and even then I can see while flying (yes I fly a Cessna 172 in the real world out of KISM) where in the distance clouds are lower is some areas and not others. REX had the whole deck as far as the eye can see at one altitude. It just didn't look right. So I took a different approach and heading out west to KPHX. The day out there was unrealistically clear (now with the beta you can see a mist over the ground in the morning, a mist on snow days up north, and a mist in low lying clouds). After the beta it's hard to go back. The Phoenix area had no scattered clouds anywhere. The metar called for clear skies so hey I went with it, it's possible and I'm not there in person. I was pleseanty surprised to see snow as I flew north heading to Sedona. Looks like REX now factors in snow cover. Problem is like the weather it pops up all around you even when lower lying areas should be clear of it. I flew up to the Grand Canyon and landed, it looked amazing. KLAS/KHEN called for no snow cover so I thought like what popped up initially the snow will dissipate once I get to the Vegas area. The snow never dissipated... Vegas looked like the planet Hoth which it never does. So if you fly into snow using REX you can't fly out of it... Now Ricardo, if you feel this is a valid option I want what you're smoking. You come in here with the worst attitude promoting an inferior option. Being honest is all that's needed. REX is doing the best they can with the limited info they can gather from Asobo but Weather Force has so many holes in it with it's latest version that it's really personal choice. It's not what ActiveSky was to FS9/FSX/P3D. ActiveSky's development in the area is why we have the default weather in FS2020 that we have. They revolutionized what's possible in Flight Simulator. So all in all this cloud thing like I said before is not a happy picture to say the least. Constantly hacking and lackluster addressing of problem areas and fixes to solutions is horrible (but they keep adding features). For the record if ActiveSky had the weather servers down it was no more than 24 hours at the most (going back well over 10 years) before they got things back up and running. ActiveSky is a third party company with a fraction of the resources of Asobo. Over the years any issues we had with the core product this community worked around it and in many cases fixed it. We were able to maintain because the code was static at that point. Asobo is trying to do too much that they should offload and allow our third party guys to address. Then REX could be all it could be and Activesky would be in the game concerning FS2020. That's the real issue not shouting down fellow simmers for pointing out deficiencies in a product that's clearly lacking. 🤨 Edited January 2, 20224 yr by Dillon FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR

January 2, 20224 yr The cloud has advantages and disadvantages. Certainly we could never achieve the depth of scenery and weather simulation we have without the cloud, but it does make the simulation susceptible to periodic outages. MS2020 was designed as a cloud based software and everyone knows that clouds experience challenges and sometimes go offline. It is going to happen from time to time. So you buy and use the software knowing this. And in this case it is not that the whole software does not work; just one feature is affected - albeit a pretty fundamental and important one. There are alternatives, P3D will work quite well without an internet connection to the cloud. This being said, it is a long time to be offline without it being addressed and Asobo would do well to figure out how to take care of these things when they happen, including over a holiday when, to be fair, many people have time to use the product. But, it is also not life preserving, critical software -- it is the depiction of live weather in an entertainment product for people who want to pretend to fly an aircraft at home. MSFS 2024.
