Flysimware Chancellor released (Beta)

Featured Replies

Well I don't know about you guys but I certainly am enjoying this plane, even in its Beta state.

FSW is also putting in a great effort working through the little hiccups.  I notice with the 1.4.3 hotfix the AP is much better although when climbing with AP set to ISA mode, it will overshoot the target altitude slightly, then dive down back through it and end up bouncing around a couple hundred feet under target, or yo-yo'ing up and down.   This is with both the TDS GTNxi 750 and PMS 750.  Taking control via the VS function and manually dialing it in to the target altitude, then pressing the ALT button seems to fix it for the rest of cruise.

And some nice content for it showing upon the "to" added plenty of eye candy on a dawn flight from Cayman Islands to Cuba.

I have no idea why the topic on this aircraft was locked.

So, we now have a new one 🙄

Guys, Question?

Walk me through how you pick up an ILS/GS when on HDG AP, heading for the ILS approach loaded and activated within the GT750Xi.

Would like to hear how you guys handle it.

Thanks.

ok, I unlocked it - there is a LOT of good info in this thread.

a "comment" or two about liveries is fine but if it gets to another three page mini thread I will lock it permanently.

There are lots of users who have no interest in liveries and they have to scroll through page after page of livery discussion to get to info they want.

NO long winded livery discussions - they belong in the paint forum.

thanx,

Vic

As far as Rudder goes, Actually won't notice the difference. Just makes it usable for me

Exactly. The rudder still has authority, but the aircraft doesn't squirrell all over the runway anymore. Just like it should be....!

Livery update.

For starters you'll need to grab the latest GTNxi from TDS

Then you'll have to update your 414

The way I used to vector aircraft is pretty simple (and how I vector myself in the sim)

Once you have the ILS freq swapped into your active NAV1 window, and have dialed the inbound ils course on your HSI (And your CDI is set to VLOC important hehe), you'll want to intercept the Final Approach Course (FAC) at no more than 30 degrees... and when you're doing this (about 1.5 miles XTK (1.5 miles away from the FAC) you also need to be at or below GlideSlope (GS) intercept altitude.

Example pic:  KDLH ILS27.  Freq and inbound course can be found top of chart.  Location will differ on Jeppesen plates, or Lido (my plate is an FAA version referred to as a NACO chart - always free for airports in the USA)

Red line is your flight path...and the point I want to make is that for a 30 degree intercept...your last "leg" before joining the FAC will be about a 300 heading.  Note that the inbound course is 273 so actually it's only a 27 degree intercept - well within legal limits for the USA.

On the C414 you'll be on HDG mode and ALT - should be at 3200 for this approach.  You will set HDG to 300 and the AP will turn you to it.  (previously you would have been on about a 360 heading from my example text here....).  Now irl...once ATC says "N12345, 5 miles from ANDOE, turn left heading 300, maintain 3200 until established on the localizer, cleared ILS RY 27 approach" is when you would turn on APR mode on the AP.  So sequence of events in the 414...

1) You're on a 360 heading and altitude is selected and you're at 3200 ft - also you'll want to be at least 5 miles from the FAF so you have time to turn and get established on FAC before GS descent.

2) I don't use ATC so you have to guess on this part....how to determine how far from the FAC should you turn for the intercept?  Rule of thumb for an ils intercept on your own is your ground speed divided by 100.. so 200 knots is 2 miles from the final - you'll want to turn to a 300 hdg and then engage APR mode.  100 knots is 1 mile from FAC etc.  More for jets because they don't turn at standard rate (slower than standard rate because they generally will limit bank angle to 25 degrees or so).

3) So at this point on my chart you turned to a 300 hdg and pressed APR mode.  You'll see the CDI needle swing in (it would be deflected to the right) and as its centering, the autopilot SHOULD be turning to to the 273 heading (however it will differ if there is a strong crosswind).  And in my experience, Flight Sim will overshoot this turn at a higher speed.  For the C414 I'd do 160 kias but a more "normal" speed (assuming you're not flying at a busy airport where ATC would be asking you to keep your speed up) would be about 140 kias.

4) At the Final Approach Fix or FAF, depicted by a Maltese Cross (the black X shown on the lower portion of my chart named ANDOE - I made it in red on the upper portion) - you will capture the GS and the plane should be descending following the GS marker on the upper left of the Attitude Indicator.  It's also visible (barely lol) on the HSI as a thin orange line.

You can look at ANY approach chart, VOR, ILS, LOC/DME, RNAV(GPS, RNAV(RNP) etc - and ALWAYS see the FAF and what altitude you'll need to be at when conducting your own vectors to final.

Thank you, every thing your wrote was how I do it. But it would not do it.

Your first line was to update the TDS, I did that and shot a ILS HDG to LOC.

It locked up the LOC and did the same with the GS, it was perfect. Not good, perfect.

That update was it thank you.

When you DL the TDS you DL an app, run the app. Look at the version installed in the sim and update it.

I had 1.0.1.2

The new version is 1.0.1.3 for the sim, not the trainer Bert.
