June 12, 20223 yr What help files have you read? I have been using this mod for months without a single issue, but I had a similar problem when I first started using it. For me it was a running program that was using a certain port on the PC blocking the data. I removed that and not had an issue since. This is the only problem I had at the start, but it is clearly stated by the developer as something to check. This problem is often down to another app using the same network port. I've used it trouble free since I discovered the app causing this. The developer has highlighted this to be checked. After first install I notified the developer I had blurries and could see tiles loading close to the aircraft. I discovered an app using the same port. Sorted this then the mod downloaded tiles as quick as Bing. After I close down the sim, I pull up the mod page, which I have minimized and hit File-exit which closes it. So I don't understand if this is "Stop the mod" or "shutting it down" or something else entirely. Please explain. June 12, 20223 yr To add another data point... I saw this addon many months ago when it first appeared and decided to pass at the time. Not sure why I assumed so, but I thought it seemed like a flakey idea. Upon seeing the rebirth of this thread and hearing some more testimonials I decided to give it a shot. Made two flights, one in the PMDG737 from KPDX to KLAX and then another in the H145 helo from Santa Monica, out to Catalina, and then onto Palomar Airport. It was AWESOME! Granted, Google has some pretty good coverage of the U.S. so I can only speak to what happens IN an area with good coverage. It was amazingly crisp, I never saw any tile loading even at FL39 and performance was smooth as silk. I followed the instructions above and disabled (and deleted) the rolling cache within MSFS and enabled the caching mechanism in the app. Flawless. And the additional clarity of the textures all alone the west coast was very noticeable. I even saw an incredible difference at the high altitudes. Once or twice I noticed a seam where google's imagery was not perfectly balanced between tiles, but that was the exception. Asobo's photogrammetry and AI folliage fit very well with the google ortho. For anyone on the fence. Its free, its simple, and worth giving it a shot. The app author says nothing permanent is done to your setup. Turn it off and everything is back to normal. That will be my next test - lol. Anyway.. just thought I'd share. Happy exploring!

You're not one of the only ones...I'm sure many of the 200k + downloaders are actually using the map enhancement mod without any issues. I follow the author - derekhe on fs.to and github (https://github.com/derekhe) for quite a time - and he has deserved (not only my...) donations for his talented work without any doubt. June 12, 20223 yr Is it a requirement to enable the caching mechanism in the app? I have never used the in game cache before tough the idea of cache doesn't appeal to me as I see it mostly as a dumping site that only takes up space without adding anything positive, I can add that I have a very fast and stable internet connection. In that case, and if you are on an unlimited data plan, caching is not needed. Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). Upon seeing the rebirth of this thread and hearing some more testimonials I decided to give it a shot. Exactly the same here. Gave it a go last night. Very simple and straight forward to set up and use. I only had a brief chance to fly VFR in the UK around my local area and one flight in the 737. Initial impressions; NO MORE GREEN ROADS!!! This alone makes a huge difference to definition and perception. Everything seems crisper, with more convincing ground colouring. Also - and I’m quite willing to admit this might be a product of my imagination - but is it ever so slightly smoother? I found the latest Bing maps in my part of the UK better than Google on this initial run and unsurprisingly was able to provoke a lot of tile popping by switching between Google and Bing on the fly. I think my ancient, DDR3 system has a lot to do with this. Selecting latest Bing maps and not swapping them during flight meant I had no noticeable tile popping. I haven’t had a chance to explore the cacheing options this app offers yet but looking forward to using this more tonight in the US. I also ran the sim afterwards with the app disabled with no problems. Load times with the app enabled were no different to the stock sim btw. Overall, very impressed by my admittedly brief initial trial. Well worth exploring in my opinion.
June 12, 20223 yr Love this mod but it does chew up bandwidth lol. Thankfully I have 1GB fios and no data caps so I'm good but if you're on a limited plan.. June 12, 20223 yr I've been touring the Caribbean in my H-Jet and upon arrival, I find that the default Bing textures have a light green "washed out" color to them. It's time to try out this MOD and see if my textures look better on arrival to these beautiful tropical destinations. MSFS

How do I set it up for best visuals? I have a decent internet and lots of SSD space on my C drive. I should be able to enable rolling cache in the Google Map ap without issues. MSFS
