who is still buying stuff for 2020, since 2024 is coming out

Featured Replies

Business as usual for me.  I am sure the 'vast majority' of what I have will be alright for 2024, so I am not too worried.

I have slowed down though, for two reasons: -

1.  I was buying stuff quicker than I could fly in MSFS, with some planes only flown once before moving on to my latest purchase.

2.  I am getting a bit fed up with some of the issues in the sim, like the tiles swapping issue for one example, so I just don't fly as much these days.

So I am wondering if my interest is just naturally waning in the sim.  I certainly don't enjoy it so much these days.  Maybe I need something like 2024 to come along to re-invigorate my interest.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

I think that 2024 will be just like 2020 but with addtional Lego/Playmobil style activities/animations on the ground.

I suppose the flying from A to B itself will not change that much but what there is to do at A and B on the ground is. Perhaps we will see passengers actually moving and behaving less robotic in the passenger terminals of some add-on airport (maybe AI will play a role in this?). If so, then one should not be surprised when an airport will need a paid 'upgrade' to benefit from that while still keeping the promise that their 2020 version will work in 2024 without that.

As I wont be buying FS2024 for at least 18 months after it releases I'll continue to purchase addons for FS2020, Not that I buy much for it anyway these days.  As they will work with FS2024 I can't see any logical reason for people to stop purchasing for FS2020 in the first place.

I'm certainty still buying addons for MSFS. I will still purchase addons that don't state about future compatibility with MSFS 2024 but they will have to be must buys. However I'll be prioritising purchases where the Devs have clearly stated that any purchases will work on MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024. I think that's fair enough.

I'm staying with MSFS2020 until the new 2024 is released in a year or more, and only then will evaluate what to do. No brain for me

I will continue to buy addons and enjoy the sim I have currently installed (MSFS 2020)

Life's too short to not enjoy an already great sim and it's addons because something new is down the road.

When MSFS 2024 gets here, then I'll care about it.

This is the main reason I have scaled back. I will get stuff on deep discount if there isn't a freeware available, and I think I will fly into it a lot.

ORBX is having a 40% off sale for Drzewiecki Design's stuff so I might get KDCA.

Good gravy why would I not buy something I'd want to buy and enjoy for my hobby just out of some unknown fear of what might or might not happen in the future?  I'll continue on the mission and adjust as needed by the flight sim environment if and when the time comes.

For aircraft, business as usual and definitely will keep buying... especially the likes of the A2A Comanche, PMDG 777, certain iniBuilds birds, etc.  Don't see how I can avoid pouncing on those until after MSFS 2024 releases (the PMDG 777 might not release until after MSFS 2024 though lol). I don't typically buy scenery add-ons anyways, and for certain airports I really want a detailed representation of, will also keep buying those as I need them.

Current system: i9 13900K, RTX 4090, 64GB DDR5 4800 RAM, 4TB NVMe SSD

Nope not stopping if something is produced and I like it I will buy it so far I have added 33 new sceneries for MSFS and I have several more I am planning on purchasing.

JetLine Systems Gravity GT2-Windows 10 Home Edition (64-Bit), NZXT H500 Mid-Tower, Black, Gigabyte Aorus Z390 PRO WIFI, LGA 1151, Intel 9th Gen Core i9 9900K (5.0GHz Turbo) 8 Core / 16 Thread, Corsair Hydro H60 120mm Liquid Cooling, 32GB Corsair DDR4 SDRAM 3000MHz RGB, 12GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070, GDDR6, 750 Watt Corsair RM Series Power Supply, 5.1 Channel Realtek Integrated HD Audio, Primary SSD Drive:1TB Samsung 970 EVO, M.2 NVMe PCIe (SSD), Secondary SSD Drive:2TB Samsung 970 EVO, M.2 NVMe PCIe (SSD) 4TB WD Black 7200 RPM Mechanical , SimOn Solutions 737 Professional Compact Trainer (MIP, OH). CFY 737 Max Motorized TQ Gold V3, MSFS2024, ProSim 737. 2 45" Samsung 4K TV.

It's obvious the fundamental framework of the code is going to be the same and they already confirmed most things are going to work just fine. I just see it as Windows 10 versus Windows 11 for example. So I'll happily keep buying, have no doubts it's all going to work.

The MSFS2024 announcement will have absolutely no affect on my purchases or continuing enjoyment of MSFS2020. After the new sim is released I will think about what to do then. In any case we could be many months away from the "new" sim.

What does that mean?

The 2024 announcement actually re-kindled my interest in FS.  I was on the fence about a new nVidia card and the announcement reminded me how much I love this hobby.

Compared to many other fun diversions, the cost of add-ons is incredibly cheap, especially considering the countless hours of enjoyment they provide.

Sometime next year, it will be interesting to see what 2024 is all about.  But for now, I'm enjoying the current sim more than ever ...and bought a considerable stash of scenery and utilities over the weekend.

Best Regards,

Mark

I must be honest, when the announcement was first made I initially decided to hold off buying more for 2020, but with the clarifying comments were made by Asobo and some developers I am now fine with purchasing scenery, particularly through the Marketplace, but I also picked up Ontario through Contrail last week. I am still going to hold off on airplanes unless there is a clear statement that these will work in 2024 and there will not be an upgrade fee of any sorts. I never had any interest in things like city night lights or missions.
