AVSIM has become a toxic community ... a farewell

Featured Replies

As a former MSFS developer who worked for Microsoft, I posted a topic here that I had hoped would spark conversation about the release of the latest version of my favorite Flight Simulator. It quickly became apparent that there are many highly toxic users here in the years since I first visited it. I was saddened by most of the comments. Although a few were respectful to the conversation I was trying to start, it's become evident to me that this is not a place where reasonable conversation can take place.

Adios.

  • AVSim is not an airport, you don't have to announce your departure.

  • Too many people take simming, and in fact gaming in general way too seriously, as if it is the very core of their existence. They need to get a grip. Sorry to hear of your experience.

Many of us who are on in years and previously flew are admittingly demanding, but are not included in those you describe. Please stick with us, providing constructive guidance but not controversial divisiveness. That is much more what Avsim has been for for over 26 years, and shall be going forward.  Please discard the extremists.  We are a better community that that.

Have you also posted that same topic on the MSFS2020 forum?

AVSIM has become a toxic community? Avsim was always a toxic community! 🤣That's the key to its success! 😁

It's been like as far as I can remember. Passionate discussions, different opinions, locked threads. I'm surprised you haven't grow a thick skin. Seriously whatever your opinion you express here, disregarding your status and experience, Asobo/MS will do what they want. It Ian't old time, its cheaper to test with customers LOL

While you are entitled to your opinion, but you have to also realizes that this is a place where rough criticisms and opinions are also being posted behind an account name regardless how you feel and think.

Things have changed a lot in terms how we how we interact with each other in person these days after the pandemic, let alone on the internet, which can be and always has been uncivilized.

Personally, i wouldn't bother to argue with anyone or even try to correct what others are saying even though the points are incorrect....just there is no point in doing it.

I am no software developer, but i don't think Asobo will release MSFS2024 if it is not ready for Nov release, it would be stupid and reputation damaging to them and the brand itself.  I am sure what the public has seen the alpha, is a very early version that was in the development and in no representation of it at any stage that is near release.  I believe this alpha release is also a way to promo MSFS2024, if an NDA was placed, there shouldn't be any youtubers to live stream it at all.  They want to see all the criticisms, and see if they can improve it over time.  MSFS is always an on going development, with their track record on updates with MSFS2020, this new version will be much superior, even upon release in November.  When they decided to move to streaming the content over cloud is already a big step forward.  Some popular games already uses the cloud a few years like Apex Legends.  Streaming from cloud is great if the user has unlimited internet, but no so if capped, so its a catch 22.

You posted an opinion about a piece of software that isn’t released yet, and people didn’t agree with you.

Dunno what to tell you.

And even sometimes those nonsense nasty replies get full of likes and upvotes hahaha. Oh my Lord, give us patience hahaha.

If this is what toxic is I should've been dead years ago. Come for a week with me in the logistics industry 🤣 You'll come here to relax if you're not out downing a bottle of something at the end of the week.

Oh really? What a shame. 😭😭😭

You are probably not a key person in the MSFS project, but I will still address these questions and reasons:

1. How is it possible that LTFM airport wasn't updated and still contains only runways? This directly affects my project and I have to explain it repeatedly to the community.

2. How is it possible that your SDK is still in Beta (I would even call it an Alpha) at version 0.24.3.0? The number speaks for itself. Many APIs either don't work or work improperly—AI Traffic control API is a complete disaster.

3. How is it possible that your company completely ignores developers (after writing to you many, many times)?

And these are just a few reasons.
Oh yes, I forgot—yet the "MSFS Marketplace," a milking cow, works like clockwork, with top priority!

To summarize, it seems there is no consideration for the community and developers - just a money-catching project.

I hear you, op. Some of these people act like you insulted their mother when you post anything they disagree with. So these are the “sim” guys? Nothing but children.

A few of the posts here pretty well proves the OP's point.

Unfortunately you did not create a post listing a "concern" that gave you the "opinion" the software was not ready for release. Instead you barged in with a challenge to "prove I'm wrong", dropped some past Microsoft credentials to show how any contrary opinion is not worthy, followed up with the fact that you weren't trying the as stated by MS/Asobo "buggy stripped down" alpha, but had watched some videos, then proceeded to state the lack of tools in 2020 that prevents you from releasing "add-ons equal to your high standards" when thousands have done so.

What exactly did you expect?

Wow.
