AVSIM has become a toxic community ... a farewell

Featured Replies

Firstly, it's a shame that the OP has decided to let a silly minority dictate to them to leave, yes, they can be offensive and silly but just ignore them and carry on enjoying what you love.

Secondly, forums on any topic have just become a reflection of society as a whole...an opinion that differs from mine must make you wrong...Facts are what matter, not opinions. I still enjoy a good debate involving differing opinions where all are respectful and listen to each other, unfortunately some cannot do that giving them an extraordinary narrow view of the world.

I have been on Avsim for 20 years and I can personally say I have seen these forums decline in their respectful content over the years from all parties, yes, sorry to say including moderators.

  • Cry me a river! Label it toxic because people disagree with you seems to be the norm in today's world. You have a total of 16 post since joining in 2019. Your contributions are staggering!

  • AVSim is not an airport, you don't have to announce your departure.

  • Too many people take simming, and in fact gaming in general way too seriously, as if it is the very core of their existence. They need to get a grip. Sorry to hear of your experience.

I hate coming on here and having to read through layers of useless word not allowed when I want/need information &/or answers.

Criticism is great so long as it includes good reason(s).  It helps me decide if I want to purchase, skip, or wait.

Shame on you - you didn't use 'toxic' or 'triggered' in your post 🙂

External Storage Three 4Tb HDs

It is not so much toxicity that bothers me, but rather the reflexive denial or belittlement of demonstrable deficits. In many cases, this is done very eloquently, but also relentlessly.

I remember well the color banding bug as a result of SU5, where numerous users replied in the official forums that they did not have it, although screenshots that the same users had posted in other threads proved the opposite. Of course that turned out to be a bug. Similar behaviour can be observed here in nearly every thread that points out a potential shortcoming as well. Instead of getting involved in the potential improvement of the product, people emphasize how much better they feel because they don't have such a negative experience. And as sure as night follows day more sooner than later the argument is made that "it's not perfect, but it's better than anything we've had before", which is the ultimate killer argument.

The community gets the simulator it deserves.

I will ever and always prefer an open forum where things go south, are sometimes toxic but in the end totally free regarding what can be posted or not over the censored yaysayer rubbish called MSFS official forum. Mods do a great job here interfering only when necessary. And yes, discussions in online forums are usually rougher than those in RL. If you can not cope with this fact, online forums might be the wrong place for you...

Hello all,

Given that there has been absolutely no response from the OP I would suggest that you are all preaching to the converted because he just is not here anymore.

16 contributions does not really suggest a serious commitment to flight sim generally.

I guess it is time to move on ... conserve energy and concentrate on those whose opinions actually mean something.

I bid the OP bon voyage and a good life wherever he is headed in the future.

Sadly, "If you don't agree with me, you're wrong" seems to be the norm. "Your opinion doesn't matter" goes right behind that.

Bro started his 16th post in almost 6 years because he wants to leave Avsim after people disagreed on his MS24 not ready for release (his opinion) post and now claims the place is toxic. This is like when you calmly tell someone no and they start screaming not to yell at them. Gimme a bleeping break.

@fsxmissionguy  In the other post you said that for you "MSFS 2024 is not ready to be released".

I have been retired for 10 years and I have worked, starting in 1970, in the field of electronic technical assistance for 42 years and I have never seen any hardware/software device that was "ready to go" therefore without any need for hardware/software improvements, after the first release of the product.

I had the first FS in 1983 and I would like to remember that the creator was Bruce Artwick of Sublogic which was then acquired by the nascent Microsoft of Bill Gates who released FS Microsoft 1.0 for PC on floppy disk.

I remember with...nostalgia the flights made on a prehistoric PC between the Meigs Field apt in Chicago and the apt of the University of Illinois Willard in Champaign, consulting the attached sheet with only the VORs.

More than 40 years have passed since then, and we know how we got to today and if we talk about flight simulators, I know I'm in my... very small, a sort of beta tester when I buy one like MSFS 2020 or for the next 2024, but the most important thing for me is that there is someone who takes care of eliminating any bugs or improving the product and, obviously IMHO, this should be the subject of discussion and not decide, as you did, that MSFS 2024 should not come out because it is not ready otherwise, according to your principle for all the problems it has, not even... Windows should not have come out?

I hear you, op. Some of these people act like you insulted their mother when you post anything they disagree with. So these are the “sim” guys? Nothing but children.

.....most of them are rather old, frustrated men 😉

Sorry, that had to be said 🙃

kind regards,

Toxic is not how I would describe this place at all.  You only need to spend a few minutes anywhere else online to see real toxicity.

If I were to describe this place, I would say "grumpy" would be way more accurate.  For most of us, this is the hobby we use to get away from all the real world drama of work, politics, etc.  A few people seem to thrive in that online drama world and bring it here.

I DO come here to hear different opinions on things, but many threads (right around page 4 or so) tend to devolve into... well, less useful discussion.  You can ignore people, but eventually they can get threads locked down.  I understand 100% why mods lock threads, but maybe we should be focusing on those who steer us towards that outcome on a regular basis?

I wish people would remember that this is not your open mic to Microsoft/Asobo(I know they've specifically mentioned this place at least once, but I don't think they regularly read here).  You're mostly preaching to the choir here.  Also, if you prefer another sim to MSFS... go enjoy it and go to those forums?  That's not to say you can never compare different products, but for the most part, those discussions are useless and mostly just arguments over nothing that will ever change.

This all started with the proliferation of the idea that complaining (in an entitled, whiny way... i.e. the "I paid $5 for this product and I demand perfection!" crowd) is a virtue.

People should probably take a look at the thread in question before rushing to defend this particular poster. His very post was ludicrous, full of ridiculous claims ("I developed for MSFS2020 for THOUSANDS of hours but I didn't release a thing because I have higher standards!" really? Who is going to believe a word of that?), and even sillier conclusions.

For reference:

The only people who defended it are those cheerleading for every piece of irrational negativity that gets flung at this forum.

Why even post a topic like this that your leaving???

Seems like you are looking for toxic criticism.

I'm direct with many people that post on this forum but it's nothing personal with any individual!
