AVSIM has become a toxic community ... a farewell

As a former MSFS developer who worked for Microsoft, I posted a topic here that I had hoped would spark conversation about the release of the latest version of my favorite Flight Simulator. It quickly became apparent that there are many highly toxic users here in the years since I first visited it. I was saddened by most of the comments. Although a few were respectful to the conversation I was trying to start, it's become evident to me that this is not a place where reasonable conversation can take place.

Adios.

They guy who was a developer for FSFS2020 but didn't release anything as you said in your other post. I hate to tell you, but that is not a developer!

  • Cry me a river! Label it toxic because people disagree with you seems to be the norm in today's world. You have a total of 16 post since joining in 2019. Your contributions are staggering!

  • AVSim is not an airport, you don't have to announce your departure.

  • Too many people take simming, and in fact gaming in general way too seriously, as if it is the very core of their existence. They need to get a grip. Sorry to hear of your experience.

A few of the posts here pretty well proves the OP's point.

What? That he can't handle people who disagree. Harden up.

You are probably not a key person in the MSFS project, but I will still address these questions and reasons:

1. How is it possible that LTFM airport wasn't updated and still contains only runways? This directly affects my project and I have to explain it repeatedly to the community.

2. How is it possible that your SDK is still in Beta (I would even call it an Alpha) at version 0.24.3.0? The number speaks for itself. Many APIs either don't work or work improperly—AI Traffic control API is a complete disaster.

3. How is it possible that your company completely ignores developers (after writing to you many, many times)?

And these are just a few reasons.
Oh yes, I forgot—yet the "MSFS Marketplace," a milking cow, works like clockwork, with top priority!

To summarize, it seems there is no consideration for the community and developers - just a money-catching project.

Hmmm so  Microsoft Flight Simulator back in days was also called MSFS. So Microsoft Flight Simulator 95 is technically also MSFS. I believe between now and then there are lot of people used to work for Microsoft or MSFS  🙂

Quit double posting!

YOU should harden up and learn to use the quote functions correctly if anything Peter!

Can you give us some examples of this toxic behaviour?

I hear you, op. Some of these people act like you insulted their mother when you post anything they disagree with. So these are the “sim” guys? Nothing but children.

Coming from someone who flings around the word 'triggered' at the first sight of a raised eyebrow, you might want to wind your neck in here.

Yours is a good example, that "us" is a completely non empathic behavior.

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

AVSim is not an airport, you don't have to announce your departure.

Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

Just a suggestion - perhaps don’t start a topic proclaiming that the new sim is doomed and not ready for prime time (admitting you hadn’t even had any hands on experience with it that would have at least provided you with a shroud of credibility) and pick something a little less polarising and a little more positive if you are looking for a nice, calm discussion.

Very odd, if it’s so toxic why pour oil on the fire with yet another polarising thread start that doubles down on the last one and not just be on your way?

I’ve been on this forum for 20 years and the toxic-ness hasn’t got to me yet.  Look out I might crack it any time now!

How is it toxic to ask the op what he found toxic? And 'us' refers to everyone following this thread I suppose. I don't see how that is non empathic.

There may be some harsh words here and there, people calling it what it is according to their opinion. I don't see anything wrong with that, as long as personal attacks are avoided. And there are also a lot of long toes around.

Cheers, Bert

Adios.

There are certainly a few toxic keyboard warriors here, but don't let the bullies win and chase you away.  It is what they are trying to do.

I doubt if they would speak like that if it was face to face because they are cowards and get off on being rude to people here with a certain amount of anonymity.
However, I did catch up with one at a flight sim convention (sadly missed in the UK) a few years ago.  That was...  Interesting, and confirmed my suspicions about the type of character.
Overall, the Avsim forum, the moderators, and the community is good.

As a former MSFS developer who worked for Microsoft,

Why were you sacked?

So let me get this straight; You make a post slamming MSFS 2024 that it isn't ready, another one of these dreary, unfounded doom and gloom posts, based on an alpha you DIDN'T EVEN TRY. I also believe you made it apparent you didn't even release any content for MSFS 2020, because that wasn't good enough either, meaning you released some missions 15+ years ago and still try to live off that past glory, thinking your word carries a lot of heft. Then, like any normal community, you obviously receive a backlash and because it didn't go as you'd hope, you now need to announce the place is toxic and you're leaving. From a forum you have a total of 16 posts on.

Please, for the love of God, stop.

Some of the people who call it toxic are, funnily enough, the people who are perpetually negative, always tries to find an angle to dunk on everything Asobo does, the same people who tried the alpha and decided this was the state of the sim, this is how it's going to be released and began a little crusade. Highly obnoxious and then they got upset they received a backlash for it.

And for the record; you and some of the other people in this thread have never seen an actual toxic forum, if you call Avsim toxic. Avsim's MSFS section is a solid community, if you actually care about the sim. People are very invested, there's passion here, people are generally positive and actual constructive feedback and criticism is often discussed in a respectful manner. It's actually a pleasure to come here and see the excitement, See people are willing to call out the disruptive flow of negative posts.
