I guess it would be like trying to change the name of a major movie just a week before the premier. What about the already existing marketing materials, videos, articles in magazines, the probably already created hard media like the metal boxes of the I-can't-remember-the-name-of-it version.....

Probably tons of stuff that it would be a nightmare to attempt altering at the last second.

I prefer the actual product being correct and late with amendments made to the marketing than the other way round if you ask me. Cross out the 4 and put 5 beside it and post an explanation as to why its delayed on all your media outlets. I think the majority of the target audience would have been more understanding.

But im a nobody and this is water under the bridge. All i care about is execution of the fixes and when the feature of downloading assets like aircraft and airports are allowed on my drive. Until then MSFS2020 for me.

  • Would be nice if someone can post the main points covered in the session today. Apart from that .. not interested in the back and forth over player numbers and the doomsday vs cheerleeding stuff going

Jorg mentioned something interesting right at the start. He was referring to the "launch with ten thousand bugs" of MSFS 2024, and he stated that they would not make the same mistake next time. Maybe those bean counters have been put in their place at last?

As I recall, the launch of 2020 was just as messy... minus the streaming issues with 2024. They did not learn a thing.  🤷‍♂️

  • Flight Simulator 98 - released in September 1997
  • Flight Simulator 2000 - released in October 1999
  • Flight Simulator 2002 - released in October 2001
  • Flight Simulator 2004 - released in August 2003

There is no reason why they could not have called it MSFS 2025.

Jorg's always got a reason why their stuff doesn't work, but the point is ...their stuff doesn't work.

Don't get back to facts when the usual folks are both bashing the sim and then feeling the need to defend it so others don't miss out on its brilliance which is all FAR more entertaining than facts anyway!!  😉

The problem is that they spent money and time already promoting MSFS 2024. To change the title, they would have to undo their original advertising and push out new advertising to get the new message out that it's MSFS 2025 and not MSFS 2024. That could cost them more money.

Using a year in the title seems fraught with problems as you both point out. I wonder if they’ve ever considered using something not linked to the year. Like Microsoft Flight Simulator Zeus or Andromeda, Poseidon, Hermes etc.

It couldn’t evade detection that Meteoblue no longer appeared on the slide with the partners. Is this something new, or has been known for a while?

Seeing the codename was "Limitless", they could have called it "Microsoft Flight Simulator: Unlimited" (MSFSU).

Ooh that is interesting, they were bought out by Windy.com last year so perhaps that has something to do with it. Licenses do run out, change etc over time as well so that might be why

There. Give me my six figure marketing salary. Thank you.

Anyone who was disappointed after reading post release reports about msfs2024, could have just not purchased it until the reports looked better. I was not disappointed reading reports about it, and jumped right in.

I didn't know you worked at Asobo.

I wouldn't look too deeply into that, Working Title was also missing from that slide, but we know they're still working with Asobo.

Meteoblue is still credited in the sim itself.

Well there is no reason why it shouldn't be.  If people can do it in a few seconds by following a set of instructions (like yours), then why can't Asobo do it?
It's not like it takes any difficult programming, it just needs them to set up the sim configuration slightly differently.

Pretty sure this is on Nvidia, not Asobo, unless Asobo told Nvidia not to whitelist 2024 in the Nvidia app due to compatibility issues. Nvidia are the ones dictating what games we can apply DLSS Override for in the Nvidia app, and plenty of people online are giving Nvidia flack for gatekeeping this tech and not giving users the option to decide on using the latest DLLS versions without hacky workarounds.
