2020 Simmers Fight Back

If you can't deal with the fact that 2024 is the future and most 3rd party devs will only focus on it, well... that's tough

No, these guys have lost all credibility.

The community is waking up to the fact that there are alternative simulators without the endless insanity.   And yes there will always be those who are content with 65% of a loaf, but most of us just want software that doesn't waste so much of our time.

MS/Asobo has been trying to do something they simply don't know how to do.

Didn't they just release a city update for both sims? When I look into your post history, I seriously think you need to touch some grass.

  • My opinion of Asobo has done a complete 180 in a very short time. After 2020's rough release I knew better than to preorder 2024, but even I was surprised at how underdeveloped it was at release. Howe

My problem is the streaming of airplanes. if they allowed us to keep all the aiplanes locally I'd be fine with FS24. My problem is excrutiating load times for default aircraft.  Add a bunch of 3rd party stuff and it's ridiculous, and it's hard to tell if its frozen or just working slow.  A lot of the time MSFS24 just hangs at that top down view after I hit fly now.  Tried reinstalling, nuked Community folder, still get that hangup at the fly now screen and slow loading aircraft.  Have zero problems in FS2020, totally stable for hours load times are about 10 secs from fly now to sitting in the cockpit.  I can deal with long load times in MSFS at the begining but the FS24 hanging at the top down view is super irritating.  For me they just replaced one long loading point for another.

That clearly shows with the amount of investment they poured into 2024, and the amount of 3rd party partnerships they secured.

Yep.

What augurs well for v24 is the example of the stunning amount of extra free content they gave away with v20.

Not knocking other sim devs, but what we got for free over the course of 4 years in v20 is far, far more than any other sim dev has given.

On a further positive note, that has also spurred Laminar Research to begin including significantly upgraded regional sceneries with XP v12, as well as other eye candy like much better ship/boat traffic, etc.

And now that I think of it, DCS World has also been significantly improved across the board ever since MSFS released - mostly in the areas that MSFS leads (visuals and performance, etc).

Competition is GOOD for us consumers 😁

I strive EVERY DAY to "fail" as "badly" as MS/Asobo have.

Have you increased your Rolling Cache size? IIRC it's not even enabled by default.

Mines set at 100gb and haven't had the issues you're describing.

As much as I try to derive something meaningful from this post, I just can't.

I complete a flight in the Justflight F28 - from start-up to shut down using real world data, in real world weather and over the sweetest default terrain I have ever seen.  Yet apparently Ms/Asobo simply don't know how to do it and have lost all credibility?

I am in awe how over the top that post is.

State of MSFS AVSim these days; Greazer starts a flame war, the same old "Champions Of Asobo" take the bait, rinse & repeat the next thread he starts. Bobs post is about the only decent one in the entirety of this thread (read through shear boredom as it was Mid Session Interval in the Snooker!), the days of intellectual conversation over the Pros & Cons of Asobo are very rare round these parts now, thankfully there;'s other places to discuss MSFS like adults.

I think to be fair, there's a few of us who have replied to this thread with some decent feedback regards both 2020 and 2024 sims.

With the latest Beta release, MSFS 2024 was outstanding in my short flight in the Fenix A320 yesterday. I am finally ready to transition primarily to MSFS 2024. I do hope that the 2020 only sceneries continue to get updated for 2024 compatibility, but the current build runs great for me.

Cheers, Pete

Agree.  I flew the Fenix from Bari to Ibiza yesterday and 2024 and it was spectacular, both sceneries were addons.  I also find that pretty much all of my sceneries from 2020 have moved across to 2024 without issues.  Pretty happy to be honest.

..It's ironic we still have separate FS9, FSX, FS12 forums, a DX10 forum, a Win 7 and Win 8 forum but can't separate 2020 and 2024...

I mean is there a lot of interest in Win7 and Win 8 still? 😉  Seems some forums could easily be "sacrificed" at this point

Agreed!  This decision by the mods becomes less and less credible with each passing day.

No, making ridiculous hyperbolic statements like above is what makes one lose credibility, and fast

For those who hate Asobo and/or MSFS 2020 and/or 2024, if it makes you feel better to think that those who like those sims and/or don't have issues with them are only content with 65%, then please do keep repeating that to yourself 🙂

It's clear what the vast majority of the sim users and add-on developer community thinks (as borne out in metrics such as the Naivgraph surveys year to year, actual sales, add-on developer focus and choice of sim platform, etc etc).. despite a vocal minority of whiners, pearl clutchers, and champions/diehards of other sims around here who wait to dump on MSFS or MS/Asobo. Like I said, it's
très adorable.

MS/Asobo simply do know what they're doing, given the success of the sim platform and how they transformed the stagnant state of flight simming, and they're quite happy I'm sure with the uptake of their platform that just continues to rise every year. Releasing 2024 too early with too many bugs is not going to stop that given that it's just a matter of a few SUs to get those addressed, and nor do they care about the bloviating by some that goes on around here.

It is getting more clear every day, Msobo are not providing 2020 Sim updates (except for scenery) and they have convinced their Dev partners to do the same.

This includes Inibuilds who have started making sceneries for 2024 only and stopped with 2020 scenery updates 😠

This is despicable, throwing the 2020 simmers under a Bus.  They want to keep charging exorbitant prices for FS2024 and force simmers to buy.  The Steam reviews are as worse as ever.

2020 simmers must fight back, and not buy 2024. These Devs don't have the cards. 2020 simmers do. Without customers they are not sustainable.  And they will Crumble.

2020 simmers could use the sim optimization updates, but with a good system FS2020 is relatively stable. Plus we have all the addons already.

The latest reports of the 2024 Beta is that it's a Streaming mess. Full of Stutters, Freezes, CTD's, and probably BSOD's too!   The streaming experiment has failed. It will always fail.

There is trouble in paradise folks.

Maybe I’m just odd but I actually don’t want any more updates to 2020 because the sim, as far as I’m concerned, is pretty ideal right now.  With each subsequent update I see it as a potential to crash the stability of 2020.  2020 is way more stable to me than 24 and I value stability over anything else.  I don’t have the time in my life to fly 3 hours and then have a CTD on landing just to restart the flight.  I’m fine with slightly less updating as long as the sim stays stable!

In FSX, you could just restart your flight from for instance two minutes before the crash or freezup (using autosave).

Another myth. They did not! They talked about commitment to the franchise, not MSFS 2020 specifically.

MSFS 2020 didn't exist until 2024 was announced. Until then, it was "MSFS" and I, like many others, had thought that there would be continual updates to that simulator for the duration that was promised. I didn't expect to have to pay again after four years. And I certainly didn't expect to buy a simulator that was, and still is, a regression over the last one.

Really?
And did you get a free upgrade from XP10 to XP11, or XP11 or XP12?
What about P3Dv3 to P3Dv4, or P3Dv5 - did you get free upgrades to those?
