Farewell MSFS 2020

Featured Replies

There's certainly no rush here to install MSFS24. I'll most probably keep MSFS20 installed for some time, as I don't have any disks limitations.

I'm gratified you are using the sim that you prefer, but why does that have to end with a silly comment towards 2024?  I can agree with some of your points regarding 2024 because we are not even at th

I don't understand people who think you can't have multiple simulators installed at the same time. STORAGE IS CHEAP! I still have installed XP12, P3Dv5.5, MSFS2020 and 2024.

Not me,  still a huge MSFS2020 fan and this would go at least until the end of this year so possible at this time the most bad and anoying bugs are blocked out of MSFS2024 !! cheers 😉

Yeah, got back on 2024 about 1 month ago. Use it now 80% of the time.

The difference for me is subtle when things work as they should, yet going back to 2020 gets harder every time for some reason.

Not ready to let go of 2020 just yet, but its getting closer. By the end of summer for sure I would think

The good thing about 2020 and 2024 is you can keep one addon folder for both sims then just use addon linker to associate each addon with one or both sims.

Oh I could, got lotsa storage space, just don't have interest in developing proficiency in more than one sim, well two sims in MSFS' case.  There is a lot of learning time to fully appreciate all that each platform offers.

Don't you already have proficiency in the older simulators? I like to keep the others around as I still fly aircraft that are not available across all platforms. And if MS servers are down or I have internet issues I can still fly.

I have 2020 and 2024 installed and both are amply satisfying of this hobby for me.  The number of times over 4.7y in 2020 where servers were down...well can hardly recall it was so rare.  And for 2024 there was a day or two with that issue a few months ago so I parked 2024 for 2 days or something.  There's a whole lot involved a new platform, a huge amount that I think we can sort of take for granted and forget about but yes all of the inside knowledge dealing with this or that issue with the platform is substantial.

I keep 2020 on my system only because I don't have PMDG 737's or Ifly 737max yet available in 2024. My original plans were to remove 2020 completely this summer or fall at the latest. Beside the JF Dukes, there's no reason for me to return to 2020 for flying. Thanks to addon linker it made it possible to keep all my addons for both sims possible. I did a flight yesterday with the new A350 v1.0.9 from KSLC to PANC to almost cried looking at the coastlines and Fjords of Alaska. I'm using the beta SU2 of 2024 and had no issues at all with full AIG Ai installed. We are getting close to the time to put 2020 to rest and say goodbye to 2020 and remember the great times I had with 2020 as it evolved to what it is today. Not to mention the thousands of dollars I spent on sceneries and aircraft since I started with 2020.

To all simmer's out there, it's great to be alive and enjoy our hobby with much joy and admiration for the hobby.

2020 was uninstalled this morning. Its been a wonderful simulator for me, many great flights have been completed but the time has come to put all the wondering I was doing to bed.

I got 2024 with a slight discount using the games pass, installation was a breeze. I've had a fiddle with some settings and about to set up my inaugural flight from Heathrow to Arlanda.

Wish me luck and safe landings to you all!

I am still on FS2020 for a bit longer.  I have FS2024 installed on my system and its running well.  I am basically waiting for the official release of SU2 and a bit more stuff to be made compatible before I formally switch over.  FS2024 like it or not is definitely the future!

Also thinking of getting a new computer at some point during the Fall and if I have not formally switched over by then its likely I will when I set up that new computer.  At that point I am usually lazy enough not to bother installing the old sim.

Ironically FS2024 runs good enough on my existing computer but its getting a bit dated at 4 years old so about that time.  2070 Super and a i7 10700K processor is not exactly high spec these days.  Thought about just dropping in an updated video card but for what a descent video card cost these days I might as well upgrade everything in one package.  I think even SSD's are finely getting bigger now as well.  So just buy a whole new system makes sense!

To be fair, the OP stated HD Space wasn’t the issue at all. Nor were multiple sims / platforms.

I forgot to mention it earlier, but for me, the thin client approach in 2024 is also a big plus. It significantly reduces loading and update times, which adds to the overall convenience.

I did try to re-install 2020 a month or so ago as I really wanted to try out the iFly 737.  However, my 15 minute re-install time for 2024 was trounced by the 24 hour time for 2020! Even then I couldn't get 2020 to run so I gave up.

Exactly. There's a clear and meaningful difference between XP, DCS, and MSFS 2024, which is why I keep all three installed. But when it comes to 2020 vs 2024, the gap just isn't wide enough to justify keeping both. Better to reduce complexity and focus on the one with the most potential moving forward.

I'm very close to moving over to 24.  I've kept it updated since release.  I see things I very much like.  Sometimes I sense the performance is more consistent in 2020.  But I know it's getting better.  Now it's just a case of getting dedicated 24 versions of planes I use most like the Duke, PMDG 737, iFly max.

SP3 (maybe SP4) and I will switch. But not now.

I agree, from what I am reading on various forums, 2024 still has a way to go.

I still have 2020 installed, but have not used it since SU2, just waiting for the 777F and 777-300 to move across, and it's bye, bye to 2020.

Post SU3 for me. That is supposed to allow you to download content in lieu of streaming.
