Bloody Nora, somebody tell me he’s mistaken / it’s a one off…

edit: I can’t see any topics about this on the beta forums on the official site, so I’m gonna cling onto my hope.

Me too. I don't see any topics about this at the official SU3 beta forum either: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/search?q=cloud %23su3

I'll say one thing though. If the clouds are so bad that it's a repeat of SU5, according to what UAL4Life is saying, it's a total failure of the SU 3 beta that nobody started a thread with screenshots in the SU3 beta forum and the SU3 beta testers let this slip through.

Just tried out SU3 finally... Wow the clouds are hot garbage now! Gonna be a real shame when this becomes the stable branch...SU5 all over again... at least we got lightning back tho i guess...

One thing i DO LIKE: Distant terrain looks crisper... might just be a placebo tho...

To be fair the clouds haven't been the same since the great graphical regression of SU5 all those years ago, they got gradually better but nowhere near the quality they once were.

Having said that I've not noticed any reduction in quality with SU3 for 2024, could be server related, could be the game reducing settings without you realising (this has happened before to many people), could be GPU driver related etc etc

Try the obvious reboot, reinstall stuff and if they're still rubbish then post a screenshot comparison with SU2 so we can see it as well!

Clouds look ok-ish to me, I'd say stratus types are more consistent now, less made of crunches of cumulus, and some convective clouds look nice.

Turbulence and other effects while crossing convective clouds could be better though, but RealTurb sometimes helps.

Overall I'm rather satisfied with SU3, specially now that I have the "perfect triad" 🙂

Indeed. Computing power is lacking and so far no one has found a programming solution to make it more effective.

I'd say it will take another 15 years.

No but they were good enough up until recently Farlis.

The clouds in 1.5.7.0 definitely seem to have taken a hit in quality.
I spotted it straight away.  No settings changed at my end.
I do run 4k ultra settings so maybe it stands out for me more.

They look identical to me. Are you sure? Maybe it's just a placebo effect from reading someone else thinking they look worse.

One way to check, go back to SU2 take a picture of a preset, go back to SU3 and load the same weather preset in SU3

Took this right now, High settings. They look the same now as they did when 2024 launched.

I have no words to describe these clouds.

Yeah the "hot garbage" comments is heavy on the hyperbole. They just looked a little softer to me and as Tuskin pointed out, it could be the placebo effect at work.

I think we should call this Nocebo, because it's a negative expectation.

Remembering your post history, this is a negative comment right? 😉

For a computer game they look pretty good to me, at least on par with the competition. Of course they couldn't match any real world pictures, like the one @GoranM posted the other day 😜

Yes, what @Tuskin38 said.  Take a photo of the clouds in SU3, and then revert to SU2 and take a photo of the clouds.  If they really are different, then post both photos in the official SU3 beta forum.

I've been getting cubes, like blocky clouds when I pan around the edges.  Is that to do with my DLSS or my frame gen>

If I had to explain to you the meaning of my messages, I would say even more! For a video game, it is exceptional!.Even the colors and the lighting are incredible!. There is really no more room for progress. Even Microsoft/Asobo no longer needs to travel to the FS EXPO to explain the next step to us.
