Aircraft nav light visible from 32000 feet below it. I don't believe that's possible in SU2

In the daytime, you can't see them from 20 feet away.

Besides the usual bickering and constant need to flex ones muscles over other posters....has anyone done any Storm Chasing with the latest build? See they've toned down the lightning be strikes frequency alongside other changes, I'll try and take a look myself later.

Someone clearly deliberately tried to mislead all of us and got called out for it. Is that what you're labeling as flexing on others?

Anyway, to answer your question, yes, I have gone storm hunting in the latest build and thankfully, despite them taming the intensity of lightening frequency in bigger storms, lightening still shows up where it is supposed to. It is also still visible way off in the distance. The only small gripe I have for now is that the UI does not do a great job of letting you know you can expect thunderstorms the way 2020 did. For now, I'm able to find storms in the sim, using a real world lightening tracker.

Which sound slider is responsible for thunder loudness?

Thanks Krakin... and from what you and some others have said, the clouds details/sharpness has come down a bit from previous SU3 beta builds? Or at least this regression is most noticeable when you dial up the settings to ultra/max? (side note: by dial up the settings I'm talking about in-sim, and not dialing it up all the way up to real-world 🙃🤣)

Well at least this one is an honest representation. Reminds me of 12.1.0 tbh. Did the poster say this is the latest beta? In any case, you can see how low resolution they are closer to the plane.

Seems to me in large part we're splitting hairs, fuzzy, blurry hairs, in both sims.  IOW in their current state they're both lacking in the kind of detail, crisp edges, and other attributes RW clouds manifest that we would all love to see but it's just not possible at all currently.  I think both devs are doing decent stuff considering what they have to work with.

Indeed. Computing power is lacking and so far no one has found a programming solution to make it more effective.

I'd say it will take another 15 years.

I'm looking forward to this release, SU2 was really good as well. The sim looks and flies great, but the career mode (SU2) is still kinda buggy - can send you to airfields that you can't land at, right hand turns into the terrain, etc. It's still playable, 8/10 flights are fine, but just when you think it's all good, you'll get a bad mission and lose rating points.

I’m interested in weather representation refinements, and praying that cloud turbulence is finally in across all types (not just thunderclouds). I’m also praying they haven’t dialed back anything (too much) on cloud representation as 2024 finally seemed to be redeeming some of the horrors that 2020SU5 visited on the clouds.

I'm not in the beta, but I always zoom in on the map view to take a look at where the sim wants me to take off and land. You can see the path the sim wants you to fly in the mission view, but it's a little clunkier zooming in and out and moving around with the keyboard.

Just tried out SU3 finally... Wow the clouds are hot garbage now! Gonna be a real shame when this becomes the stable branch...SU5 all over again... at least we got lightning back tho i guess...

One thing i DO LIKE: Distant terrain looks crisper... might just be a placebo tho...

Bloody Nora, somebody tell me he’s mistaken / it’s a one off…

edit: I can’t see any topics about this on the beta forums on the official site, so I’m gonna cling onto my hope.

No offense, but I don't see a single thread in the SU 3 beta forum that is complaining about clouds the way you are complaining about it, and there is also no such thread about clouds that is highly upvoted based on what you are saying:

https://forums.flightsimulator.com/search?q=cloud %23su3

Now I'm not saying I don't believe you, but if it's as bad as you say, maybe you should go make a thread at the SU3 beta forum, and post screenshots of what you claim is the clouds being "hot garbage now" and that it's "SU5 all over again."

And if need be in your screenshots, you can also compare them to SU2, since you can fall back to SU2. It would be a little more work to post the comparison screenshots of SU3 to SU2, but it would definitely help Asobo fix the problem, based on what you are saying how bad the cloud degradation is.

I honestly want SU3 to be really good when it's released.  But I'm seeing a divergence of what people are claiming in this thread about the clouds, and the actual reporting at the SU 3 forum.  In any case, I think the Avsim members who see a degradation in the clouds, need to go report this at the official SU 3 forum, with screenshots, so that Asobo can fix it before SU 3 is released.
