I just uninstalled it, I just couldn't bear it anymore. Off to the X-plane camp.

What I suspect is really happening here is my MSFS scenery cache is 32GB and it's being loaded into memory (this is a good thing for performance as RAM is considerably faster than any I/O, even my Samsung 9100 nVME).

Are you sure that's a 2024-native, or at least 2024-compliant scenery?  I don't own it, and I wouldn't EXPECT MK Studios to have a poorly-optimized scenery, but it's possible.   I have one that I own (FeelThere KSTL) that will absolutely destroy vram in '24.   But your issue was actual system memory, not vram...that's very interesting what you're seeing there.

My point was this test doesn't mean much unless you perform the same test with less memory and can actually record a performance benefit with more memory installed.

That depends on how Asobo scenery caching is working ... I see MANY threads of users with unexplained long pauses which is likely the loading from I/O rather than having the scenery cached in RAM.  I thought one of the changes Asobo made was to preloading scenery into memory ... this is a good thing if you have lots of RAM.

Specifically these items from their release notes:

  • Improved performance in airports during fast camera movements
  • Avoid freezes due to airport rendering
  • Activated the new LOD curve as the default one

RAM disk is an entirely different process and comes with the overhead of a file system, they are NOT the same as cache scenery in memory via MSFS processing.

"Performance benefit" will not surface in terms of higher FPS, it would surface in terms of less long frames (very long frames) which would impact an average FPS but not indicative on long term performance.

Saving flight data will not consume 1GB of RAM.

I've never seen any application allocate so much RAM and then not use it to aid performance in some capacity, this would be a first in the 40+ years of my software development experience.  Heck even Adobe Pr/Ae, DaVinci Resolve/Fusion, 3DSMax don't pre-allocate memory with their memory cap setting ... they use it as they need it upto the cap amount designated by user settings.

To be clear, I'm not having an issue, just reporting the system RAM usage.  I've seen similar system RAM values at other airports listed as native 2024, like I suggested, I don't "think" it's the airport and I know it's not the aircraft.

I could flush my rolling cache and/or reduce it to 16GB rather than 32GB and see if that makes a difference in the reported memory usage.

To be honest, this is what I would expect considering how much MSFS 2024 tries to accomplish and how good it looks.  Even with it's issues, I did a flight from ENRM (new native MSFS 2024 airport) to ENBN and the scenery and weather depiction was amazing ... RAM usage was about 48-50GB during flight and these are two small airports ... but wow, the scenery was really really impressive (I recorded the flight).

Oh nice, the 787 (and max, but I have the ifly now, so not relevant to me) support wind uplink now.

This people continue to say that FS2024 performance is OK... it's not! With such low settings it looks far worse than MSFS at Ultra settings with PG and it's not stutter free anyway. Even people with 5090 and very high-end PCs have stutters:

https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/fps-drops-after-flights-and-doesn-t-recover-even-in-menu/734774

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qfc-bWZao8g

I have no stutters at all.- Using TAA, FG  DLSS, dynamic settings at 35 fps and max fps capped also at 35.- TLOD and OLOD both at 200.- all else set at ultra.- Moves smooth as silk.-

I5 13.600, 64 RAM, 5070TI

Has AI been messed with in SU3 ? There's new settings for it by the looks, and it's not playing with BATC. Seems to work with FSLTL but I get generic aircraft coming in again now as well.

Talk about making what was already a massive cluster even worse.

Overall sim performance still seems to be very good for me.

Just fired SU3 and took a ride in VR in the Optica.  Was admiring the great views when I realized, the annoying passenger is gone!

No more passenger blocking much of the right hand view.

Update:  Loaded another flight and the dreaded passenger is back.   After additional fiddling around discovered the passenger can be eliminated via the EFB by excluding them from the load.  Odd that the first flight didn't include the passenger but then defaulted back to old behaviour.

Try to taxi and takeoff from EGLL with online traffic enabled and the A320v2 or the 737 Max, then you will change your mind.

We use the sim in different ways.

Then switch them off. You have to do that in the main menu, when you are already in flight the setting will reset.

Waiting and reading before I launch it and therefore catch the update.

Seriously though you are ALWAYS going to see a FPS drop between cruise and landing at a payware airport. No amount of SU's will change the fn obvious.

Absolutely correct. I see the same FPS drop at ini builds Heathrow with FS2020 but the difference is, no bad stuttering

This stuttering has always been my problem. I can maintain FPS at 60 99% of the time in FS2024 but the stutters are still present.

My specs below are high end, so my system should be able to handle high settings.

Hi,

MSFS 2024 does not keep my Frame Generation settings.

I have to set x4 (or x3) on every flight, because it always reverts to x2.

I'm having this issue from SU2, and I thought that it was going to be solved in SU3, but the issue persists.

Furthermore, I was wondering if there's a way to set outside the game (in UserCgf, for instance), but I can't find anything.

Any hint?

Regards
