  • I visited my son this morning in Newcastle (EGNT - although he doesn't live at the airport 😄). I've had a good 90 minute session with the PMDG 737-800 for MS2024 and here are my thoughts:- P

  • What a stupid organization to find and select the right aircraft+livery. In the MSFS 2024 menu we have now 5 entries for the PMDG 738-800 together with MS/Asobos configure/variant/livery options it is

  • Yup, PMDG sometimes picks the most bizarre places to draw the realism line. Like the time people (including me) were requesting the ability to have the thrust reverser on the throttle axis as an

I don't have any particular investment in either loving or hating PMDG. They're just another supplier of the big tubes to me. If they produce something I want, and if I'm willing to pay the price, I'll buy it. They are no different in my sim world than, for example, Carenado, Milviz, Captain SIm, and many others. Like I said, if I want it at the price asked, I'll buy it, regardless of the perceived attitude or behaviour of the company or its spokespeople.

But having said that, they do seem to suffer from a rather large opinion of themselves, and it's not terribly endearing. Pretty much the other end of the spectrum from the likes of, for example, Just Flight, who I've always found to be unbelievably helpful and friendly.

I may or may not get the 2024 version of their -600 and -700. Depends how I feel at the time, probably. I'm very keen to see what they do with their proposed 747-100/200/SP model, which I understand is on the cards. But again it will depend on how that looks at the time (if ever). Quite possibly JF's version (although I don't remember them talking about an -SP in there) will arrive first and may do the job for me anyway.

Unfortunately, we're probably approaching a 50/50 ratio of ***holes to nice guys in the world generally these days, and there's no sign that the simworld is any different.

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

Indeed and agreed.

Nicest guys I've seen, IMHO, are the Fenix team. And I don't even own it!

You miss out. Fine guys and great products. Was doing B’s for literally decades until with 2020 the Fenix guys and their A’s showed up.

Since no Boeing aircraft has any detents, there is no use for an internal calibration.

It’s not the actual “detents” per se though. You can still use something similar to set up the range where you have idle thrust to full toga, and reversers if you have it.

Your thrustmaster Airbus has always interested me. I use a thrustmaster warthog but with no twist grip I've got a set of thrustmaster pedals I'm not 100% happy with. I'm giving thought to the Airbus set up. I use mine with both pmdg and the fsl A321 and inibuilds a350 and all is okay. I may get the Airbus setup sometime after Christmas.

I got a new Winwing URSA MINOR stick now, it’s night and day to the Thrustmaster. I’ve been having the Z-axis twist (which I use for tiller/nose wheel steering) wobble for a while and I’m sick of needing to open the thing and twigging it… it’ll be better for a while then it worsen again.

In the end, it's all company policy. I paid my dues with the DC6, and when I saw how poor their support was, I didn't fall for it again.

Obviously, everyone can do what they want with their money, but PMDG isn't for me. Their products are very expensive if you want to fly all the versions, but they're certainly not bad add-ons for anyone who's a big fan of MFS and Boeing.

You may look at the sound level of your different apps in Windows sound mix menu : GSX sounds are perhaps to low.

Hi: It’s not in the 2024 Marketplace yet…maybe by end of December…I read somewhere…

The 737-800 will take 2 months to be available on MSFS 2024 Market Place. PMDG is not a charity and there is no need for them to have to pay money to Microsoft, a billion corporation. They should sell as many 737-800s direct to consumer as possible. Once sales slow down, then it would be prudent to release it on market place.

Recall that the PMDG 777-300ER was released by PMDG on OC3 in June and it did not show up on Market Place until August.

Let this serve as a lesson to all those who purchased their PMDG add-ons from MP to never do that again. There is no good reason not to purchase an add-on direct from the developer.

Also, sometimes when you purchase an add-on from MP, there are no liveries, however there are a plethora of liveries from the developers installation management software on launch date. This happened to me on the PMDG 777 on MP. I had to wait for free liveries to become available from independant livery developers.

I will never by an add-on from MP if it is available directly.

I wish PMDG could cut a deal with MSFS and sell the 737-800 direct to buyers who purchased the 2020 add-on from MP.  In this case, let's say you are elgible for the upgrade. You purchase the new add-on direct from PMDG and they just send MSFS their cut or commission directly.

Hey Alan:

It’s perfectly understood if you never buy from the MP even if such a choice exists.

However, the others, many with 20-25 years in this hobby, can also decide for themselves whether to do so or not, depending on their own specific preferences.

And it is futile for us to act like business strategy advisors of either PMDG or Microsoft, unless one is actually so.

Let’s focus on enjoying the a/c we have on hand now, including the latest 738 that some own already , while some might get it later either directly or from the MP. Let us respect one another’s choice, knowledgeable simmers here that we are.

I wish not to comment further on this topic.

Cheers…!

Not according to Mr. Randazzo :-

"Marketplace!
We managed to get the 737-800 into Microsoft Marketplace 2024 intake late in the day on Thursday. We had been in communication with Microsoft regarding some hiccups we were hitting with intake, and they were helping us out in real time, as they are eager to get the 737-800 into Marketplace for the holiday as well."

Ive been a PMDG customer since 2006. Ive purchased every product do date. I must say I am rather dissapointed with the 737-800 in 2024. I am not seeing the value of the $30 fee. They have set a low bar if you compair it to Fenix for example! Im not saying the plane is bad, however Im not seeing the leaps and bounds PMDG have been selling us on the new 2024 verson. Im not here to bash PMDG however, I expected much better.

It's out on Marketplace for pc now but not xbox yet. Just over £28 to upgrade in the UK marketplace.
