Sim Update 5 [1.7.27.0] Now Available | MSFS 2024

See weather has not been addressed as reported by others in SU5, I wonder if using Activesky Preset Weather Controls, aka full control would be a better option. I currently use AS in Passive mode. I’ll have to check it out later.

As a guy who spends every six months in Level D sims, the weather  in 2024 is miles better than how it looks in a real sim.  First off there is no live weather in a real sim, so it’s all presets.

Having read a number of pages on this post, I often get the impression some people on Avsim are more interested in complaining for the sake of complaining.  I just did 4 flights since SU5 came ou

I never do that.  Just install it.

I do have the Premium version. Avidyne IFD variant is not listed on the C172 Steam gauges version, either.

On the official forum, a user is sharing a screen shot where the IFD variant is one of the variant of the G1000. https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/aau4-avionics-and-aircraft-update/760947/17

The G1000, steam guage and now the IFD variants are all variants listed under the 172 rather than the IFD being a variant of the G1000.

When I first updated the IFD didn't show. When starting the sim it did the overall SU5 update. I download most of the aircraft models to disk so I then went to My Library in the MP and downloaded some of the updated aircraft including the 172 packages. Checking the 172 for the new variant was one of the first things I did and I couldn't see the new variant. I went back into My Library a couple of times downloading more updates and I think I saw another 172 update listed so check again if you download.

I saw a pic on the official forums of the 172 IFD so later on I tried again and variant was available. The other suggestion is to reload the sim and see if that works. Mine definitely went from not showing to showing and I am not sure what caused that.

My bad. The picture displayed on the Microsoft Official Forum was an "error" by its author.

I finally succeeded getting the Avidyne IFD version. For whatever reason (actually because I use the WB-Sim mod that requires MSFS2024 Classic disabled and MSFS2020 Classic enabled), my MSFS2024 172 Classic/Steam gauges version was disabled in Market Place - My Library. I had to re-activated it and the IFD immediately appeared as a variant for the 172.

Check my free MSFS sceneries : https://flightsim.to/profile/vbazillio/trending and my hardware configuration.

I see there is a new graphics setting call Visual Effects Particle quality.
- Added settings for VFX particles quality, if set to High will sort the particles to prevent render order issues

Glad it's been useful for you! But it's weird that forward/backward didn't work. It was working for me on the previous MSFS24 version. As previously shared, the sensitivity is higher with this Tobii implementation in SU5.

I also had the backwards / forwards movement working perfectly fine in the previous version before SU5.
I believe if all of the if the 'Head Tracking Position sensitivities' were not set above 0 in the original in-game settings, then backwards / forwards movement didn't work, so for SD_Flyer, this may not have been set correctly originally.

The only thing that changed on mine between SU4 and SU5 was the movement sensitivities, which were way too strong.
Mine are now very similar to yours, with all the head tracking settings for yaw, pitch, and roll set exactly the same as yours, at set really low at 0.2, 0.15, and 0.1.  Works well!

Don't forget to put dlss 310.6 back as the update reverts to dlss 310.1

Not for Steam users, it doesn't revert. Mine stayed at 310.6

After the update, the EXE.xml is not executed at startup. Anyone else see this ?

Woop, hopefully some more folks will try out my freeware scenery modification now that SU5 is official. It's not perfect now but it's probably as good as it's going to get based on Asobo's comments. External tools that push TLOD out to 600+ do help a lot > FL250.

That would do it. Glad you got it working.

Take that and go set a preset in 2024 of RVR 1200, 200 foot ceilings and rain or snow, and fly it.  It’s way better than the real sim.

Level D sims can’t even do rain, or wipers, or anything.

People need to realize how incredibly GOOD we have it in a desktop sim, it’s the best it’s ever been.

You’re conflating visual appeal with simulation fidelity, and that’s where your argument falls apart.

First, the “set RVR 1200” example is simply incorrect. MSFS 2024 does not model or allow direct input of RVR—there’s no control for it in the weather menu, no SDK parameter, and no credible third-party implementation. You cannot set 1200 RVR, let alone something operationally critical like 600/600/600. That alone undermines the comparison, because you’re referencing a capability that doesn’t exist.

Second, I never said anything about live weather in Level D simulators, so that point is a complete misread. The discussion is about accuracy and control of conditions, not whether the source is live or preset.

Now, the claim that MSFS 2024 is “way better than a real sim” in rain or snow is where this really goes off the rails. That’s not just debatable—it’s fundamentally wrong. A Level D simulator is engineered to replicate aircraft systems, environmental interaction, and handling characteristics to a certified standard. You get rain effects, you get properly modeled windshield behavior, and you get fully functional wipers operating with correct system logic and speed modes. No, you don’t get cinematic droplets—and that’s intentional. The goal is accuracy, not visuals.

If your benchmark is how something looks, then sure, a desktop sim can appear more impressive. But if your benchmark is how it behaves, especially in IFR conditions, MSFS is nowhere near that standard. It lacks precise visibility control, does not simulate RVR, and frequently produces unrealistic atmospheric behavior—like abrupt wind shifts that destabilize the autopilot in ways that would be unacceptable in any certified training environment.

So no—this isn’t about “not appreciating how good we have it.” It’s about recognizing the difference between a visually appealing consumer product and a tool built for operational accuracy. Saying MSFS is “way better” than a Level D simulator in weather is not just an exaggeration—it shows a misunderstanding of what those simulators are actually designed to do.

Anyone else seeing some weirdness with the GUI in the Free Flight menu, when trying to use the "Configure" option to select variant, livery etc.?  Clicking on it has no effect at all for me, although if I press "F" I  can get to the variant/livery selection options.  Don't know what broke it.

You do run FlowPro from //42 I assume. That causes it.

So we are just going to have AI aircraft landing without gear being displayed forever now??  How is this not a bigger deal?  Any aircraft away from about 200 metres from the viewpoint do not have gear displayed.
