  1. Same as Jim. Point the installer to P3Dv3 and add to scenery library manually. Works fine.
  2. The current configurator version works fine for me.Just point it to the proper folder locations.
  3. Rafael makes a good point about these aircraft being used for a different purpose. The PMDG 737 and Airbus A319/320 is a better comparison in that they have similar mission profiles. So, decide what kind of flying you are going to do. That being said, there are plenty of folks that make short hops in the 777. One thing to consider if you have a strict budget: the Aerosoft A320/321 package is around $40 USD and A318/319 package costs the same (however, if you buy both packages you pay around $60 USD - not bad for 4 models). This is less than the amount you will pay for just the PMDG 777-200/F base package, which costs $90 USD. The -300 expansion is extra. If you go with the PMDG 737-800/900 base package, you will pay $70 USD. To add the -600/700 package you will have to pay $30 USD extra. All are priced fairly, by the way. One thing to also consider - if you ever move to P3D you will need to purchase separate PMDG licenses, which cost more than the FSX licenses. Whereas, if you buy the Aerosoft products, the licenses are good for both FSX and P3D. So, a lot to think about. But you have very good choices, as these are all quality addons. Regards, Todd
  4. I forgot to turn the A pumps on one flight and then wondered why my left side AP would not work. B side was fine. Finally figured out why. D'oh!
  5. I tried installing A2A C182 outside the root P3D folder and it does not work (yes, I edited SimObjects.CFG fIle accordingly). You must install their aircraft to core folder for it to work and A2A confirmed this is necessary. I guess it will take time for developers to get on board with LM's recommendations.
  6. It's actually included in the P3D.cfg file by default.
  7. Strange, because I haven't had any problems with the NGX in v3. I also use ASN.
  8. Flysimware is coming out with a Lear 35A soon and so is another developer, just FYI.
  9. Out of curiosity, for those that have installed the Flightbeam and FSDT sceneries (which I hear now have v3 installers), where are these sceneries placed if not in the core P3D folder?
  10. I also have been dabbling in X-plane and visually it looks very good, especially during morning and evening hours. So, you won't be disappointed with the visuals. The only issues that has kept me from using X-plane more is 1) it takes forever to load, and 2) the constant OOM's. And I use pretty modest settings, too, which is a head scratcher.
  11. Can anyone comment as to whether AI traffic lights are more visible in v3?
  12. Paul, the Aerosoft CRJ is still in development. If you want some good updates/previews, visit the CRJ forum over at Aerosoft. No one really knows when the release will be. Initially, it was stated release was going to be Spring 2015, which has obviously come and gone. It will be available for both P3D and FSX. Also, another developer is doing the CRJ 200 (just Google CRJ200X). From what I know modelling is done but the coding is still in progress. There have been no updates on this project since May (as I am sure there really is nothing to share right now). Regards, Todd
  13. The PMDG NGX is really not a difficult aircraft to learn. The more you fly it, the more comfortable you get with it. That being said, there is always something to learn with that aircraft, a good thing. If you don't want to go complex, you may want to try the QualityWings 757 which, while a little dated, is still an enjoyable aircraft. Cheers, Todd
  14. I compress and mip all FSDT airports and textures look just fine. I just don't do it to certain textures like night textures. The buildings look just fine to me. Honestly I can't tell a huge difference except I can now land the NGX at KLAX with cloudy weather and have VAS to spare when I get to the gate. Early FSDT airports not well optimized. The newer sceneries are a lot better.
  15. Many of the WoAI flight plans are in FS9 format. If you have just one of those, then every flight plan file will essentially get disabled. Get the AI Flight Planner utility (I don't have a link but easy to find, and it is free), which has an easy feature to convert all of your flight plans to P3D format in a matter of seconds.
  16. I think Rob made that comment in jest, hence the wink.
  17. WoAI works fine in P3Dv2. This is what I do: Make a dummy FSX folder and place a copy of the P3D.exe file in that folder. Rename the file FSX.exe. Point the WoAI installer to your dummy folder and install all packages of interest. In doing so the installer will automatically create the necessary folders inside your dummy FSX folder, where everything will be installed. Move everything over to your respective P3D folders. Now, one thing I like to do is, inside my P3D simobjects folder, create a new WoAI folder. I put all of my new WoAI aircraft folders in that new folder (I like to keep them separated from the aircraft I fly). Because you now have a new folder inside your SimObjects folder, you have to add a new line to your SimObjects.cfg file. Save your FSX folder and everything in it, because every time you add a new package, you'll need to copy those newly modified aircraft folders over to P3D as new liveries are added to the models. This is also important because if you ever uninstall P3D, you essentially have a backup of your WoAI and you don't have to do it all over again. Now, if you are like me, you'll get to the point where you'll stop using WoAI and instead you'll start adding your own updated AI packages (from Alpha India Group, for example) using AI Flight Planner. I recommend checking it out because the newest version of AIFP is so easy to use it'll take you mere minutes to add or update a package. The advantage is you'll have more updated aircraft models, the latest liveries, and the latest flight plans.
  18. I would have been more interested in the CLS DC-10 if the FMC used Navigraph/Navdata Pro rather than the default FSX/P3D database. At least that is the impression I got from reading about the features.
  19. What texture resolution are you running, just curious? I don't go above 2048px. What cloud textures do you use and what resolution? What about road traffic? Regards, Todd
  20. Interesting. I would also point folks to the pinned topic on optimizing and mipmapping textures. Let me tell you that has also made a huge difference for me. FSDreamteam KLAX, for example, has always been a major VAS hog. Several of the texture files were over 12,000 kb. After compressing and optimizing, these files are now 5000 kb or less and downsized to 1024 px. Now I have no VAS issues flying into KLAX in the NGX. I have plenty of room left (meaning 600,000 to 800,000 remaining) after parking at the gate. Best part is the airport still looks great, even up close. I can't wait to try Beau's suggestions too. Cheers, Todd
  21. Actually this is kind of a 2 part question. I just changed jobs and will be doing a lot of travelling, and I'd like to do some simming on the road when I get the chance. I am looking for some laptop recommendations and along with that I am wondering what sim platform will perform best on a laptop. I fly P3Dv2 on my desktop but with it being so GPU dependent I'm thinking a laptop in my budget (around $1500 or less) may not work. I do have a license for P3Dv1.4, so that is a good option since I already have a lot invested in addons. I have also considered X-plane 10 (North America edition). So I am mostly wanting to get feedback from those of you who have used a laptop for simming. Also, I'd love some general suggestions on laptop specs and if there is a laptop you really like, please let me know. I guess the last question I have is what aircraft addons have you successfully used on a laptop? Thanks, everyone. Cheers, Todd
  22. Ah, got it. For some reason I thought the file size indicated whether it was DXT5 or DXT1 compressed, not whether it was mipmapped.
