Who wants the NGX on P3D?

Prepar3d with NGX? 341 members have voted

  1. 1. Would you like PMDG to have NGX ported to P3D?

I voted for yes: P3D is an option for serious simmers, if you want, use it. And the fact is, it wouldn't take PMDG 10minutes to prepare an installer for P3D, it's just a matter of changing default installation folders. Rest is working. I haven't found out about one thing that doesn't while I was test. Rest is for PMDG to conclude. And, even without PMDG, you can still make it work 100% if you copy all the relevant data.

After reading more into this prepar3d it seems more and more interesting. What I don't understand is why the giant company "Lockheed Martin" would improve FSX for us. Although I must say that I am tempted now to check it out there still is something that feels strange. Also, if it is fully backwards compatible to all add-ons, why would it need an own product support for the NGX? I also wonder which add-ons that aren't working on prepar3d? If these questions are answered it would be more tempting to buy it. Manfred And don't worry, I voted yes.

Ships are cooler that you think.

At first, I was utterly skeptical. BUT, when I noticed the performance increase I had such an epiphany. I realized how silly it was that FSX was nearly 6 years old and we are using "supercomputers" to run it at marginal performance. I don't think that's right. I have a 3.60GHz Phenom 920 running P3D steady at 45 frames.--That's a serious increases over FSX. This is the way simming ought to be. Fast as a video game but, realistic just like a simulator.
Can you tell us something more about performance improvement? 45 frames - which addons you used and what settings?I have intel e7200 dual core @ 2.53GHz only and i have 20-40FPS with NGX on medium settings(26FPS most of time). I have REX textures, and I had to accept some compromises: less detailed clouds and no detailed VC(this is not a problem for NGX), and no traffic(FPS is not afected so much, but my FSX lose smoothness with traffic enabled). With default planes i have over 100 FPS. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have over 30FPS(stable)with NGX and some higher settings, becouse of that i ask you for settings and addons.I belive that Prepar3D will be much better then FSX in the future. I'll probably buy it at some reasonable price and after some visible improvements, and after buying new PC first Cheers

Prepar3d might just be the future of computer flight simulation, so I strongly wish PMDG would at least seriously investigate/follow the options of porting the NGX and future products for it. Now that it seems that FLIGHT will be nothing more than a small flying game, where you only fly in Hawaii, Prepar3d seems like the way to go for the future.

How's that Internet bill each month? Cell phone service free?
Jim, I'm assuming you have a commercial interest in P3D, or at least a potential commercial interest at some point in the future? I find it rather hard to believe a regular paying customer is happily endorsing increased costs for the end user (as opposed to the one-time price for FSX). Straight Face.gif

Lure them in at $10; wait a year or two until lots of people are hooked - possibly having invested heavily in add-ons etc; then add a worthless gimmick or two, or a valuable feature that should really have been there from the start, and put it up to $20, then $30. To keep attracting new customers, start a complicated pricing structure with discounts for newcomers etc, like the telecoms and utilities companies ...My description may be a little harsh but basically that's how this selling model is meant to work. Vendors do it with different degrees of aggressiveness, but vendors who do it fundamentally differently aren't doing it right.Obviously, even at an increased monthly price, this product might be worthwhile for some consumers. It's certainly tempting at the moment. Just remember that $10 a month is not a lifetime promise.Tim

I don't care and I voted like that. Anyway I have seen few P3D screenshots...hhhmmm... I was not impressed at all. It seemed to me an indipendent simulation, it should be released for free. I would be interested on X-Plane 10 instead. And that's also a pity MS decided to change the FS series into an arcade game with MS Flight, even if it is quite early to judge considering it will be released on spring-fall 2013.

Don't agree with the subscrition model, a one-off decent price comparable to X-Plane (who also do 'real sim').

ATC: Yeah, it's OK. He's not hungry.

X-Plane 12 and MSFS2020  🙂

System specs: Windows 11  Pro 64-bit, Ubuntu Linux 20.04 i7-13700KF  Gigabyte Z790 RTX-4060-Ti , 32GB RAM  1X 2TB M2 for X-Plane 12,  1x256GB SSD for OS. 1TB drive MSFS2020

I don't care. As a rule I don't "buy" subscription products, regardless of how good they are. It's a bottomless pit.
I agree, you do have a valid point there...

What is P3D ?

So how many of you use p3d now? Which non-aircraft addons have you used with it successfully?

I am open mined atm, so please enlighten me the people who have it. How much better in fps is it, like for like. How much better does it look? Anything to make me think wow this is a must, the big deal for me is if it's a big jump in the fps area.

My 2 cents..IF it was 64 bit I would pull the trigger...until then I have no choice but to stay were I am. I have way to much invested already with FS9,FSX, X-plane add-ons. They would ALL have to be supported....And the transition should be seamlessPumpkin.gif
I have to agree, for that much money it would have to be re-written from the ground up as a 64-bit program, and I can't ever imagine them doing that.

I'd also like to know: - Will we have realistic weather now?- Has the ATC been fixed?- How compatible are the thousands of addons that I have?- Will developers have the ability to add more animations to addons for P3D?- Will I have to do the FSX 'dance' every time I reinstall it on my pc in order to get better frame rates??

I browsed their forum for a bit. Weather is still lacking, but apparently if you have Rex installed it'll automatically pick up a connection with p3d. Orbx & fsdt have both signed on to support it. Existing orbx customers will soon be able to get a dual license for $9 per addon. I dunno who else is planning to support p3d. Go check their forum, it's got some interesting stuff.http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/37541-orbx-releasing-side-by-side-licenses-for-using-ftx-with-prepar3d/page__hl__prepar3d__fromsearch__1http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=493http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/?mingleforumaction=viewforum&f=1.0
