The best thing for me is turbulence effect - mixed it with accufeel v2 and even flying a default 737-800 is so immersive that it took my breath away - ASN is the KING.

Mephic, I'm looking for balanced accufeel v2 settings with a wx engine. Could you share yours please?

(never mind the sounds and water)

Thanks,

Dirk.

  • $50/$30 and no textures..  Gotta pass on that..  Did the same for Opus.. Weather depiction alone isn't worth that much to me.. AS2012 will stay

  • Yesterday I tried to make a comparison between ASN and Opus. I have been using Opus with full satisfaction for the last year and I was curious to compare it with ASN, after all the hypes and comments

Maybe I missed this in the manual but I was able to pull up the weather GPS in the PMDG per going through the key assigning thing when I first setup ASN. However I cannot get the weather GPS to open in the Feelthere RJ145. Is there a override or something I can use to make it appear?

This is not exactly what you want but a better option I think is if you have FSUIPC you can assign a key press or joystick button press to open and close the gauge for you. In fsuipc look for the command Panel ID Toggle then in the parameter field enter the number 14991. Now when you press said button it will toggle the view on and off as you press your button.

Cheers, Andy.

I take it you guys dont suffer from harsh wind shifts with OPUS then?  I do, so ASN is out in front in my book.

Maybe the Opus users should hold off for a little bit. On top off all, Opus has some very good features that ASN doesn't have. Such as the DHM feature, that doesn't only create camera shakes like EZCA, but also effects the aircraft itself. Opus also handles TrackIR and I must say their profile is really good.

Actually that is what OPUS does backwards. The way it should be done is the way EZDOK does it. In DHM mode EZDOK creates the shaking in direct reaction to the motion of the aircraft itself. So if the plane is experiencing turbulence, the plane is already bouncing around, EZDOK justs simulates he corresponding movement that the pilot would experience, based on that movement. This is the same principe A2A uses with there AccuFeel product.Only in RND mode is artificial camera shaking generated. In OPUS it generates additional movement of the aircraft to enhance it's effect. This may look ok in the cockpit, but the plane will be bouncing  around more then it should. A camera view system effects should react to the plane, not the plane react to the camera. Also EZDOK handles TrackIR as well.

Thanks

Split down the middle on this. ASN does have a deeper immersion with a more realistic weather experience,  however after flying all day with it I was starting to miss the DHM in OPUS especially during runway roll

Perhaps the ultimate experience is going to be ASN + OPUS DHM combo.

Im not going to switch as I don't believe there is enough upside and OPUS have a lot promised in 2014 and besides my next 50 bucks has A2A 172 stamped on it  :P

That's the combo I've been using for months. It works and has the added benefit of great turbulence effect.

I am trying to upload a 1080p video of ASN in use with the Majestic Q400, but with my hideously slow upload rate, it's going to take hours.. :/

My copy is requesting a trial key again even though I should have 5 days left on the demo?

What's up?

EDIT: Put original trial key in and working again so fixed now :)

I haven't tried ASN yet, but I noticed from a screen shot and video i saw, that when you fly through the clouds, it shrouds the plane as in RL especially when looking out at the wing. I found that to be a big plus overall.

On the fence with this one.....

Best, Jeff

I don't know why,but my frame rates are bad (normally 30,now 10) with ASN,I have REX on 512 clouds and visibility at 70 miles in FSX,and ASN.

I'm having a very odd experience with framerates. They're usually pretty good with ASN, but sometimes they drop down to 11-14 fps suddenly and I can't seem to replicate it. Heavy thunderstorms do it, but not always. I'm starting to think there is a bottleneck for the effects/sound processing for all the in-cloud effects, but I can't repeat the conditions. It might not even be ASN, it might be various effects that come with addon planes. I switched audio drivers from my Asus sound card to Nvidia HD Audio, so I'll see if that helps anything. It really feels like a bottleneck of sort, not the usual fps hit due to graphics.

Edit: I'm also noticing my fps get worse the longer I stick around a certain area.

Hi all,

thanks for all the feedback. We've tried hard for more than 2 years (silent background work) to achieve these results. Given that most of you are focusing on "usual" depiction (clouds, transitions, turbulence etc), I'd suggest you try some of our effects.

For example the microburst. May be you've seen the video uploaded a couple of weeks earlier by Damian. First study about it (if you don't know anything about what a microburst is), install the XGauge (if not already done), make sure you've captured the localizer about 3000 above touch down zone elevation and then click the test microburst button in tools , debug window.

We'd really like your feedback on this. It's one of these things we've tried to implement in ASN that will provide something beyond the typical weather generator and give a chance to exercise avoidance/handling in extremely adverse conditions. Make notes about the way the windshear icon on our gauge shows up, the aural alert, the aircraft reactions etc. Just a note: Our wind shear alert system, is a simulation of a predictive wind shear alert system not a reactive one (see this: http://www.theairlinepilots.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1014&sid=3fbd61d3e7c3aa0b270c4eff5dd02e41 for an example)

This showcases the depth of the features implemented in ASN (regarding complete management of wind and other ambient parameters). Another thing to discuss, is e.g. how much above a thundercloud should the aircraft fly to avoid turbulence? Let's leave this as a quiz :) I'm sure most of you know it, just use this knowledge to confirm how accurately thunderstorms (with all the related hazards) are depicted with ASN.

Many thanks to all again and enjoy using ASN :)

I agree this is one of the areas I haven't seen much comment that was an unexpected benefit.  It makes the clouds feel almost like true volumetric clouds.  This is especially noticeable in the transition into and out of the cloud.  It's a terrific effect.

I purchased the upgrade yesterday but did not have time to really test ASN until today.  The weather, cloud, overcast  depictions are excellent but one thing I noticed when flying in heavy cloud and a snow storm was an excessive amount of cloud flashing.  Any ideas as to why?  Perhaps there is some setting I need to adjust.  thanks.

Just hit the same problem in the middle of a transcon US flight. Same solution. Sounds like a hiccup on HIfi's servers when it calls home to mama

Thanks
