December 9, 201312 yr Yes but it's not $30 though is it? ... that's the upgrade price; if you don't already own AS2013 then it's $50, which is considerably more than $30! . just saying. I just tried it and it is fantastic, but I think the AS users are seeing a bigger fundamental 'step up' here. As an Opus user, ASN is very close to it. ASN is probably a little better at this stage, but Opus is updated and developed aggresively and regularly. The low altitude low visibility pics on the thread are no different to those we see in Opus, truly. It is a little more glamourous than Opus at this point, but IMHO as someone who doesn't own AS Previous, it is definitely not worth $50 for me to move from Opus to this. December 9, 201312 yr What does ICAO ID CURR mean? :huh: Stands for current aircraft position? Because instead of displaying airport ICAO code ASN always reports CURR at different airports. Yes, current position. If you want a specific ICAO, you can enter it...or, if you are in the conditions tab, use the drop down menu to select closest reporting station... or if you have a flight plan loaded, the origin and destination. You have a few options!! Lol Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Devin CYOW
December 9, 201312 yr Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but will there be a boxed version? Why do you need it in a box. Its faster to get via download and you save a few trees worth of packaging in the process (or a few gallons of oil if they packaging is make of plastic). Mark CYYZ

December 9, 201312 yr Someone please post recommended settings for long haul high altitude flyers like myself.
December 9, 201312 yr I've been using Opus with REX-textures for the last year now and have been very happy with it, except for three or four major things that I have accepted due to FSX limitations(I'm aware this supposedly appends to all WX-engines, at least prior to ASN); 1: No wind changes during final approach. 2: When climbing out of fog, the fog magically dissappeared when reaching a certain altitude making the airport completly visable. Or, when decending, you see the airport and suddenly, the fog appear all around. 3: In-cloud turbulance, in-cloud visablity, fog in general and rain in clear sky 4: Windshifts and cloudpopping All these are now more or less perfectly simulated by ASN. Approaches are now challenging when wind is present, the fog handeling is close to magic(fog is present ALL the time, not just when you reach a certain altitude, flying through clouds feels right, rains stops when your out of clouds and weather is clear, and all weather updates are done without you ever noticing. Now, this sound like Messiah second coming, I know, but to me it really is WX-wise. I think the bar has been raised and ASN delivers in almost every aspect I've been dreaming off. I'm fine with people disagreeing, but I hope everyone give the 7 day trial a chance and come up with an own opinion, and not reject a great product based on hersay. December 9, 201312 yr Someone please post recommended settings for long haul high altitude flyers like myself. Don't change anything. Go with the default settings. ASN has been designed to do exactly this. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
December 9, 201312 yr Okay thanks. Wasn't sure the best setting for visibility, I fly long haul high altitude ifr. Also overcast enhancement I had enabled in as2012 but it's disabled by default here. Just sitting on the ground admiring a nice shower at KJFK. About to take off into the soup. Thanks to everyone on the team! About to cross the Atlantic so I hope she performs well. One little thing I noticed there is no minimize to the tray option.

I agree that we have had alot of these features for months now in Opus FSX. I downloaded and installed the ASN demo last night. What did strike me immediately was the smoothness of the cloud texture transitions. Smooth as silk despite taking off (deliberately) into a thunderstorm at Rheine-Bentlage Air Base. I was hoping for lots of turbulence as well and certainly got it as I climbed through the layers. Only had time for a quick fly around before bedtime but so far am quite impressed. Will probably buy the full version once I've tested it during low level VFR and IFR high altitude stuff. Am looking forward to ASN's replication of mountain wave/rotor turbulence. December 9, 201312 yr I'm in disagreement with a few others that $30 is too much for 'just' a weather engine. For me, being able to run the sim with real-world weather with minimal fuss and distruption (unlike built-in engine etc) adds too much realism to ignore. And at $30, ASN is still cheaper than Opus which is also very highly rated. Here is the thing.. I was sold on REX Essentials being the best and king. Bought it.. Nice textures, nice weather! I was then sold that AS2012 being the best and new king.. Bought it.. Nice textures, nice weather! Then Opus.. $45. (didn't buy) Just weather (and cameras I would never use) Then FSGW.. $55. (didn't buy) Just weather Now ASN.. $30.(didn't buy) Just weather.. Next REX Direct (won't buy) $???? I can't afford to be plunking down $30/$55 for weather depiction every-time the hot new thing is out. I'm not knocking the work put into them all, I'm knocking my wallet and it's saying no way Jose. I simply can't afford to keep up with the flight sim weather race..
