"Microsoft Sells License to FS Franchise"

Featured Replies

Why is it assumed that the franchise is FSX - maybe it's Flight?

I'll go with Facebook as the ones with deepest pockets buying it to release a flight sim with Oculus as a demonstrator. Surely it would prompt every simmer to buy into Oculus.

I've no interest in Oculus in the slightest, for the simple reason being that when wearing one of these headsets you can't see anything in the real world, so how am I supposed to manipulate all my FS hardware like my MCP, CDU, Radio Stack.....

Cheers, Andy.

I should state I have no inside information or indeed knowledge at all and so when I saw Austin Meyers mentioned, I'm afraid I got my wires crossed between Mike Myers and Austin Powers.   Now that combination re-doing FSX would make MS Flight look serious.

Hmmmmmm..... Having had a while to think it over, the title is not Microsoft SELLS FS Franchise; its' Microsoft sells LICENSE to FS franchise.

Which might be a different kettle of fish altogether depending on what exactly is included....

Though I tend to think along the same lines as MGH in asking why are we sure its not FLIGHT that was purchased? With the updated tech and built-in store, that might be just as attractive a target, especially remembering that all those juicy addons that we all like add nothing to MS bottom line. Why reboot the old franchise when you could start with the newer one and sell addons yourself through a store?

Perhaps you don't get this enough, but I for one appreciate your contribution to this thread. Cheers for the info!

Well said, Aamir. I find it rather sad that some people have felt the need to criticise FLEX1978 for the (supposed) lack of information in his posts. I too am grateful for his input, and look forward to future updates.

As for purchasing the FS franchise license......I will be astonished if the resulting product is anything other than 64bit.

I suspect the Kardashians will purchase it for Bruce. It will come packaged in a gigantic butt-shaped box and will jiggle vigorously. It fits their air head persona and it would keep Bruce occupied working out what to do with it. If they can defy gravity, imagine what they could bring to "Flight Simulator" and inflate it with their jet setting ways. Tagline will be "Flight Simulator XXX: As real as the Kardashians."

Of course this is all heresay/rumour but much stranger things have happened before..................65 million years ago a meteorite did hit the Earth (Science Fact not opinion).

That would make my day!!!! MS FLIGHT was the way to go, not in terms of banning 3pds from the scene, but the engine behind it, and the spectacular simulation platform it could have turned to... It was the sim that brought me back to flight simulation, and... after 2 yrs, I ended up playing air combat sims because I simply can't find better graphics, flight dynamics and immersion in any other offers.... MS FLIGHT II would possibly turn my interest back to civil flight simulation...

Although XP is getting more and more satisfying by the patch, a revival of the MS Flight engine would excite me.

Not a fan of banning 3pds, but one big reason I no longer use FSX is that when it nearly inevitably goes down, reinstall and updating can take days. Imagine FSX with automatic updates, centralized re-download of your purchases.......

Whoever ends up in charge, unless they are nearly unbelievable fans of vintage FSX would almost certainly be looking at/for things like that.

You know what? Maybe the train simulator guys brought it.

I don't know what's more interesting, the news the license has been sold to a mystery buyer or peoples' reaction to it?

Do I detect just a teeny weeny little bit of angst among some who have jumped on the P3D bandwagon?

There's definitely room for another sim on the market, between FSX's dead end, XP's painfully slow development and P3D's licensing I think we could definitely do with an infusion of something fresh and new.

It's amazing how things at Microsoft have started to move now that Steve Ballmer is out of the picture. Looking forward to a bright future for Flight Simulator.

Why on earth would there be angst?  LM has done exactly with P3D what everyone wanted them to...and continue to do it.  Just because someone has bought an entertainment licence for an 8 year old platform, doesn't mean a bigger, better, stronger, faster flightsim platform will emerge for you and me.  I have no regrets having spent the cash on P3D.  As far as I'm concerned, if anything significant comes from this latest development, it isn't going to be any time soon - and if it is significant and a beautiful swan EVENTUALLY emerges from the (now) ugly duckling, then we all win and I'll be happy to slap down cash again
