I suspect a little bit of Chinese whispers....
March 25, 201511 yr I've had some experience of a hypobaric chamber. Probably the only time 2+2=6 if I remember correctly! Similarly here, courtesy of an FAA program for private pilots. It's a sobering experience, and I still have the paper from the simple test we took as a reminder of how "well" I was functioning. You really don't feel as though anything is amiss. Scott
March 25, 201511 yr Frooglesim reported that a member of the FS2Crew team was lost in the accident, and shared the link. Horrifying. https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=749983145116623&id=249628718485404&fref=nf Aaron Thacker

March 25, 201511 yr Aircraft incidents are so rare these days it's always a shock when they happen. The forums are interesting since there's a wealth of knowledge to read and so many times a post here usually pins the cause of such accidents. Sad news even though aviation is safer every day. John
March 26, 201511 yr Moderator Yes, this was reported by the NY Times and thus far has not been challenged by the French DGAC. It is being discussed on all major news networks right now. Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
March 26, 201511 yr One pilot reported locked out the cabin. Well that really clears things up then. <rollseyes>
March 26, 201511 yr Well that really clears things up then. <rollseyes> Not sure why you appear to be taking this so nonchalantly, If the report is true, and to be clear it is not confirmed yet, this is a very significant development in learning what happened. March 26, 201511 yr http://www.hindustantimes.com/world-news/pilot-of-crash-plane-was-locked-out-of-cockpit-report/article1-1330661.aspx A pilot of the Germanwings plane that crashed in the French Alps killing all 150 on board left the cockpit before the fateful descent and was left trying to smash the door down but still failed to get back in, a report said Wednesday. The New York Times cited a senior military official involved in the investigation who had heard the cockpit voice recorder. The official was quoted as saying that there was a "very smooth, very cool" conversation between the two pilots during the early part of the doomed flight from Barcelona to Dusseldorf on Tuesday. Then the audio indicated that one of the pilots left the cockpit and could not re-enter, the investigator said. "The guy outside is knocking lightly on the door and there is no answer," the investigator told the newspaper. "And then he hits the door stronger and no answer. There is never an answer. "You can hear he is trying to smash the door down." The official, who requested anonymity because the investigation is continuing, told The New York Times: "We don't know yet the reason why one of the guys went out. "But what is sure is that at the very end of the flight, the other pilot is alone, and does not open the door." Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
March 26, 201511 yr Yes, this was reported by the NY Times and thus far has not been challenged by the French DGAC. It is being discussed on all major news networks right now. This unfortunately does make sense and fits the flight profile. If there had been an explosive decompression at 38,000ft and the pilots didn't react within 15 seconds or so then the a/c would have continued at that altitude until the fuel ran out. Otherwise the crew would have observed the correct Alps procedure. What happened didn't fit the bill, Bill! Locking the door to the flightdeck is there to stop highjacking but the spin off is that no one can get in. There'll be a criminal investigation probably now. March 26, 201511 yr Doesn't the cabin crew and pilots have a code that allows them to enter from outside the cockpit? Why would he knock and slam on the door? Brynjar Mauseth
