P3DV4 no Tweaks? maybe not..

Tomorrow I am going to test with Lower shadow Texture values. That worked in P3Dv3. With an OC up to 25% more fps

I will be interested in your findings. I remember that I reduced the shadow maps for clouds in v3.4 almost to the lowest possible setting without seeing anything relevant inside the sim but with a gain of some FPS in cloudy conditions. Would be nice to recreate this inside v4.

I have been reading that V4 does not need any tweaks, but runs great out of the box..

To my surprise, I found this entry in the Prepar3D.cfg file:

MAX_VC_TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=1024

That is while I have 2048 selected for texture resolution in the sim.

Changing this to

MAX_VC_TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=2048

gives me crisper textures in the cockpit...  Hmmmm :cool:

Thanks for posting that, Bert, as last night I installed v4 for the first time.

Are PMDG cockpits also visually better with this option?

Usually I downsize my VC textures to 1024 (e.g. from 4096) in order to improve performance (in pre-P3DV4 days). But this is the physical texture size which will be loaded into the memory. I assume if you have native 2048 textures it may help to fix this value in the prepar3d.cfg as you sit very close to the panels in the VC.

Chris

I can't see any difference in the 777 with 4k monitor.

didn't seem to do anything in my pit. Hmmmmm, surprising.

Tested it and on my system with an Overcast, 3 cloud layers at EHAM and with 3 outside views just 1 fps difference...So I will leave it at default.

Perhaps someone with a low end system might benefit from it.

"Cant help with textures more than mentioning that if the maximum texture resolution isn't set at 4096 X 4096 in the FSX.cfg then folks are seeing compressed textures,16 X compression in the case having it set at 1024. If fuzzy graphics are an issue this is one sure way to clear that up. Best CJ PS i am old enough that i probably shouldn't drink "...

i would imagine that it would be similar for P3d v2 and all HD texture,s,but I am not sure as I have always used 4096 texture,s as a matter of course,perhaps some one with good tech knowledge could throw a light on the situation

seems like that nothing is new!,but thank you very much Mr Pieke because i had forgotten to alter the setting in V4,getting old,But it works well for me,but maybe not for every one

I tested this out. Several planes, on two different monitors 1920x1080. Running with mipmap VC ON.

I can't see any difference whatsoever.

Before and after or after and before ....you tell me.
