Orbx released Global Buildings HD

since 4.5+hf i've had a problem with the Autogen loading not that far from my aircraft.as gerard said this is with 512 textures.nothing has changed with the new 4096 textures.still slow loading autogen.it  hasn't got better or worse with the new ones.if the  option to use smaller textures became an option and they looked better than the default ones i would definitely use them if only to save ssd space.

I think it's like a fresh coat of paint with a different color.  Something different. 😎  A nice change.

Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!)  Windows 10, (hold off for now on Win11),  EVGA 1300W PSU
Netgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displays
Full array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.

I'll wait until they release a 2K textures option. The current 4K textures tax my system really hard in low flying.

Cheers, Ed

Are you sure?  I do not notice any impact.. but then I usually have max textures set to 2048, except for the odd "test flight"..

There is no PBR option sadly (PBR is support for Autogen per Kevin at LM)

That would explain why new PBR airports need to have simobject shadow receive on to receive shadows. I always wondered.

I've had maybe a half dozen session since installing this product, in such places as Manila and Seoul as well as US and I really am liking it.  Of course no change at Cologne but that is as advertised because I have the German regions. No performance impact that I can tell.

I like it. Price is reasonable. No buyers remorse here.

How much space is needed to download? I tried to download Global open LC North America and ended up having to do a work around to use some of my D drive since the download ended up being almost double the size it’s even required to install. I think the next time I install P3D again I have to remember not to install everything on Drive C

Yes, a huge improvement visually and oddly performance seems better on my systems, I gained about 7% ... which is odd, so perhaps there was some older buildings that were causing some rendering issues?  I operate at 4096 and TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=10 and still stay under 11GB (so far).  There is a list in the documentation that indicates which existing Orbx region/products will be affected by HD buildings (affected in a good way) and which will not.

There is no PBR option sadly (PBR is supported for Autogen per Kevin at LM so no restriction on P3D side), JV mention they would be PBR some time ago but didn't seem to make it into this project, maybe an update?  Once again FSX LCD leads the day dragging down what P3D could be to what FSX can do ... but JV has no problem betting PBR into XP11 ... hmmm. 😉

But even without PBR support for P3D, I'd still recommend this product and hope JV gives P3D some PBR love ... some day ... in the not to distant future.

Cheers, Rob.

When increasing texture is that more of a load on the GPU, or CPU or both?
