All,

I'm sad to announce @Jim Young passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2020.

Jim has been an AVSIM member, volunteer, and board member for nearly two decades.  He lived a life of service to the United States of America as an intelligence officer.  He was dedicated to help others enjoy flight simulation as much as he did and authored and revised two prominent AVSIM publications:  The Crash to Desktop Guide and the Basic FSX Configuration Guide.  These guides have helped tens of thousands of people to date and will continue to help our readers.  Thus, Jim's legacy will live on through our memories, his posts, and his publications.

I got the chance to meet Jim on a few occasions and know he loved his Corvette and to golf.  Jim also loved this community and was a good friend of Tom Allensworth.  I can only imagine Tom was there to welcome Jim through the pearly gates, especially for his role in ensuring AVSIM's future after Tom's sudden passing in 2015.

Jim will be missed.  No more pain, my friend... rest easy.

Sincerely,

Chase

Sorry to hear this sad news. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of – wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air....

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace.
Where never lark, or even eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
– Put out my hand, and touched the face of God."

That is really sad, and shocking news.  Jim was a great contributor to our hobby, and a friendly, supportive, knowledgeable gentleman.  He spent much of his time helping others, so we can all take a leaf from his book.

RIP Jim.

I've not signed in for a few months following my disapproval of the removal of posts regarding some software, however on reading the tragic news if felt compelled to pass on my sympathys on this very sad news. Jim was dedicated to Avsim and will be missed. My thoughts are with his friends and family.

This is very sad news. He told us he fell ill, but I was in hope he had recovered.

He certainly was one of the backbones of AVSIM. I'll take the opportunity to make another donation.

My condolences to his family.
