A miracle ? LSFG (Lossless Scaling Frame Generation)

I usually get decent performance, except when doing silly things, like running 100% AIG traffic at JFK... Might give this a go.

I would go to that plane with the orange tail and spin it around in outside view. If native FG is off and mod FG is on, then the issue of ghosting might disappear and you still have double framerate.

    I just upgraded my 3080ti to a 40 series for $6.99 lol.

  • Ok @David Roch I really thought this was going to be the latest "double your FPS" scam out there but I am literally in disbelief.  Thank you for bringing this to my attention.  I decided to give it

  • A little offtopic here but this software works wonders in xplane 12 too. From 40fps to 100fps with all settings maxed out at 4k. It's pure magic. I am speechless honestly.

Strangely enough, using just AutoFPS I have no studders/blurries.  Just when I combine LS and AutoFPS.

Well. This may not work in conjunction with the RTX3-Series Frame Generation hack and AutoFPS. Both in simultaneous use with Lossless Scaler.  It literally brings my MSFS to its knees.  With the RTX3-series FG mod, AutoFPS shows me 80+ FPS.  Smooth as butter.  As soon as I hotkey in Lossless Scaling I fall below 15 FPS and stay there.  LS reports 15/7 at its peak, and as low as 0 (zero) if I pan around.  I had set nvidia control panel according the settings mentioned in the first LS video in this topic; had turned vsync on in MSFS general options, and had set the refresh rate to 50% for my 60 hz monitor.

Using LS without AutoFPS but with the FG mod still in place, and using the recommended nvidia control panel and MSFS vsync and refresh rate settings mentioned in the first LS video in this topic;  I get what appears to be a locked 60/30 in the sim and very smooth.  The FG mod itself does not appear to have any adverse effect.

I report this only because the two (LS and AutoFPS) do not appear to work together on my sytem.  RTX3080.

I've started using this mod, and am rather pleased with it. Money well spent.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

For anyone who finds LSFG is causing stuttering, try checking Performance box. (The FG Performance box). For me that checkbox makes this app worthwhile and yields a rock steady image, otherwise it is not (stutters/ ghosting).

With this app, Steam display, Riva Tuner, Dev Mode fps displays all lie (read half of what you have). The LSFG fps display is the truth (upper left corner).

We know that with the 40 series GPU’s, native Frame Generation (FG) comes from the GPU’s onboard Tessellation cores. In other words, the CPU has little to do with native FG.
With this new app, FG is being created using the CPU? However, we are already mostly “Main Thread Limited” on even the top i7-14700K CPU. So how does that work? We are making a CPU limited game perform better by giving the CPU even more work?

Clearly I don’t understand the science here.

As for me, running a RTX 4070TiS with its native FG, using this app would mean it is creating an additional “artificial” FG on top of native FG. It might work but given that native FG is already “guessing” what the next frame should look like, we are creating a guess on a guess. If the first guess is slightly wrong (artifacts), then the guess on that guess will be worse again.

I have not tried this program as for me FG on my 40 series card works amazing.
I run Gsync and setting low latency mode to ultra plus Vsync On in Nvidia CP but off in the sim gives me stutter free performance anywhere in the sim.

Test:

BAE 146 London City Airport (the dense scenerey payware version).

My monitor refresh rate turned way way down to 60 Hz (from 155 Hz). In game Vsync On at 50% (30 Hz).

DLSS Quality, both LODs 200, Ultra preset everything.

Not using LSFG but native FG turned on: FPS 60 of course. Some light jitter when panning in the cockpit and jitter around the tail when spinning the outside view. I don't think is bad, but is obvious.

Using LSFG and native FG turned off: Same FPS 60 of course. No jitter inside or outside. Rock perfect solid, no stutters anywhere in flight.
Both flights using what MSFS calls "Full Screen" (it really isn't). I was only using one monitor for MSFS, but two other screens were on. (LSFG app ignores them.

320neo V2. Same result as test above. The LSFG works for FG every bit as good as my 4070 native FG. I see no down side to using it on a 2000 or 3000 card for FG instead of the old FG app.

BTW, this old $80 CH Quad (6 levers for 6 axis) works a treat for looking around (what FSX used to be called "panning"). I use the right 2 levers to pan cockpit and outside views, also drone view. Sure beats using a mouse! in the 320 V.2 those top red LED's on the radio do not dim or blur when panning with this Quad (I set sensitivities in MSFS to pan slowly). Neither do the glass screens displays. And outside view, the tail doesn't look like it's wobbling when panning.

Yes but in the video he said some people have monitors with refresh rate above his monitor which only does 60. Such as 120, 165 etc.

He said to try as an experiment:

Set monitor refresh rate at exactly 120 in Windows display properties.

MSFS framerate locked at 40 in NVCP (1/3)

set LSFG 2.1 to X3 mode.

Scaling off

Which may not work well, but as an experiment. He didn't try because he can't set his monitor to 120.

Yes, I tried that as well and it works. But sometimes the "true" framerate falls below 40 fps (for example in LFPG with the A320 v2 and live traffic) so the 3x framerate varies between 100 and 115 fps and the absence of VRR (which this app disables), plus the fact that with 2/3 of interpolated frames there are more artifacts, makes 2x and 60 Hz more enjoyable for me.

My system is able to deliver 30 fps virtually in any situation (more than 99.9% of the time) and 60 fps are more than sufficient for MSFS anyway.

NVCP Max Frame Limit 60 -> LSFG x3  = 179 FPS, Wait what ? Lol ! Wow.... Ok, I have a i9-14900 and a 4090......

That's how I setup my game as well, no need to tweak it anymore, I also run my 144hz monitor at 100 hz, that will lock my game at 97 fps and give my GPU headroom to increase render scaling a bit instead of lock at 141 fps without any loss in performance..

I'm a bit late to the party, but I really wonder if this is not a placebo increase in framerates.
The application fully functions outside FS2020 (or any application).
Just before sending a frame to the monitor, it inserts a new one, and basically 'doubling' the framerate.

However that extra framerate isn't caused by a better/more efficient running FS2020/Graphics driver, but simply by copy/pasting a frame (I'm simplifying here)
Therefor my remark: 'a placebo increase in framerates.'
Also, if FS2020 stutters a lot, this still will be visible/evident on the screen? (only with 'double' framerates)

Disclaimer:
I haven't used LSFG and I'm not trying to bash it.
I'm sincerely wondering how this technology functions (or not)

It's not copy and paste of the previous frame, it's the generation of a new frame by interpolation. Some TVs have it as well.

How well it works depends on the interpolation algorithm and how much the pixels change from a frame to another.

DLSS frame generation (proprietary of nVidia) is the most sophisticated one, using AI to predict and generate the next frame with the help of motion vectors as well.
